I think the best episode is the one where he actually escapes. Makes it back to England, Tells his old bosses about the village. I was born in 1965. I stayed up late on a Monday evening to watch repeats of of this show on ITV, around 1973, Monty Python was on BBC2. The Old Grey Whistle Test was on late too. No better upbringing for an eight year old. The most intriguing thing I ever read about this show is that "No 1 IS No 6". All the different No 1's are manifestations of No 6's psyche. Patrick McGoohan was a genius! This was the most innovitive television series ever made. I die happy.

That's it! That's it!! If somebody would be so kind as to explain the cluster(bleep) that was the (bleep)in' ending of the stupid AMC The Prisoner please do! My head hurts from the retardedness of it all!!
There is no question that a lot of money and effort was spent on the new Prisoner. It proves that money can't buy quality. The actors did as good a job as they can, but they were handicapped by a script whose most appropriate use would be as toilet paper.
Just finished my first two hours of reviewing the new Prisoner. I watched it with a completely open mind hoping that it would blow me away and make me a true believer once I closed my review for the night and came here to speak of it.
Now where do I go to get two wasted hours of my life back. The show got a 1 out of 5 two times out for being utter trash. Stupid remake, I hate you!
HINT : Unlike this powerful opening sequence for McGoohan's The Prisoner the new one has a lame boring opening with the dullest opening music ever devised (where he resigns by scrawling the worlds "I RESIGN" on a huge office window and walks out).
Night Two (last night) I was more open minded and left the review at 2 and 3 out of 5 with the series ending tonight at middle of the road with tonight being make or break... though honestly for every one moment which showed promise there was endless minutes of boredom and inept scripting (if not acting at times), not to mention the show just seemed too distracted and lacked any of the real impact and sheer psychological drama that McGoohan's Prisoner was so rich and vibrantly stocked with.
Tonight if the show can stand to get to the damn point we're looking for the following...
1-Answers about the damn holes.
2-The drugs and their place in the plot.
3-Six and Two finally having a confrontation that isn't dull or drawn out and boring or pointless.
4-Finally why Six was dragged off to the Village, enough of this crap about making the Village the only topic of discussion (god this show is so village obsessed!)
5-The Dreamers, why 909 had to die, something good!
So, did they have a show in the can, realized they had miss-cast it,, and changed the name to "The Prisoner" to get us to watch?
I liked #2 but had no interest at all in #6. I did not care who he was, why he was there, or who ran "the Village." Watch "Chimes of Big Ben" then watch the AMC remake and tell me which is better.
I remember watching the show when it first came out. I was 14 and it was spellbinding. And the last episode when everyone is running around firing submachine guns with "All You Need Is Love" playing in the background was surreal for 1969!
Really? Then this is the next to last episode's opening and the credits aren't seen until the end if I remember right (he was only Number 2 near the very end, and that was so he could try to finally break McGoohan's character, which ultimately failed).
Somehow I can't shake the words of Kintaro (Kamen Rider Den-O) when I think of what the new series will do to me when I first see it... yes, I fear it'll probably make me cry... and I don't mean that as a compliment. No way.
Just Excellent! Very good quality and also the follow on capsule of the whole premise of the show, which was shown at the beginning of each show. Very nice.
That show as too true for tv. Once in awhile (not in recent years, though) PBS had a "The Prisoner" marathon. I love the episode where he escapes and goes back to MI6 or whatever and tells them about the island and the village and they fly him back there in a reconnaissance plane, playing along, and once over the village they eject him.
I've always wanted one! Worried about that crappy British electrical system, but what do you think of the car? I agree it was my favorite car along with the Batmobile.
I've always liked the Lotus Seven even before I first saw The Prisoner, but I liked the Lotus Elan of Mrs. Peel even better. Did you know that Lucas electrical systems work on smoke? When the smoke leaks out of the system, then the car stops working.
@mastermold2009 That is the Lotus 7 Series 2 (I believe it's a Series 2.) Lotus decided to give up on the Lotus 7 in the 70s (I think), however one part of the Lotus Operation decided to keep the Lotus 7 going and created Caterham Cars which now produces the Seven in several flavours (Do a search on Caterham Cars. I can't post the link) In fact the person who runs Caterham Cars actually appeared in the final episode of The Prisoner (Fall Out) as the person who delivers Number 6's Lotus 7.
BE SEEING YOU......I watched this show one summer when i was 16...I am 56....I'm still watching it because many years later it is still one of the best series every..Be seeing you.
What a great series this was! (TV today is barely worth watching). One of the first attempts at a series with a surrealist/existentialist theme... in 'Fall Out,' the prosody gives it away:
Q: "Who are you?" A: "The new No. 2" Q: "who is No. 1?" A: "You are, No. 6!" - great show, great actor.
Great show. I remember watching it as a kid and rented the entire show from the library to watch it once more. Boy does it bring back lot of memories for me.
Patrick McGoohan is great actor and will be greatly missed.
@cosmicdingo When the series first aired in the States, someone commented that McGoohan's eyebrows were more violent than most of the "violent" shows on TV. Nobody, except maybe Edward Woodward, could match McGoohan's intensity.
I almost expect to hear the drums kick in towards the end.

I don't know, from the trailer and what I've read, it may be different enough that it will work. Try to look at it with an open mind.

I'm just kidding, love the show.

Just Excellent! Very good quality and also the follow on capsule of the whole premise of the show, which was shown at the beginning of each show. Very nice.

There was some dispute over whether this series was a continuation of The Segret Agent/Danger Man show McGoohan did.
McGoohan said The Prisoner was a completley different series. The shows producer disagreed and marketed it as a continuation.
The compromise was, I guess, not giving him a name just a number.
It actually references the theme music from the Secret Agent in which the lyric "They've given you a number and taken away your name" is heard.

Mayhemmers, I've owned Lotus Super Seven for 26 years. Because I first saw it on this show in 1968. What a sheep I am.
paullubliner 2 years ago
I've always wanted one! Worried about that crappy British electrical system, but what do you think of the car? I agree it was my favorite car along with the Batmobile.
jimraw1 2 years ago 2
I've always liked the Lotus Seven even before I first saw The Prisoner, but I liked the Lotus Elan of Mrs. Peel even better. Did you know that Lucas electrical systems work on smoke? When the smoke leaks out of the system, then the car stops working.

@Mayhemers I saw one parked at the post office a couple years ago and nearly pocketed it (because it's so small, you see)
Gaslight61375 1 year ago
@Mayhemers Lotus Super Seven was a "Kit" car which could use several engines including a big block Ford v-8, which was Number 2's obvious choice.

Excellent classically trained thesp who turned down BOTH James Bond and Simon Templer roles. Nobody like him today.
cosmicdingo 3 years ago 4
@cosmicdingo When the series first aired in the States, someone commented that McGoohan's eyebrows were more violent than most of the "violent" shows on TV. Nobody, except maybe Edward Woodward, could match McGoohan's intensity.

Im gutted,........patricks is not with us any more, but Im still inspired by his legacy.
Thank you for making one of the best series of the 1960`s (The Prisoner), and not forgetting Dangerman.
You would have been a better James Bond than Connery!
Be seeing ya!
