Tony, as a member of Panther Nation, welcome to Charlotte. I know that you are excited and looking forward to August 12 when you all travel to M&T Bank Stadium to take on the Baltimore Ravens. Congratulations and best of luck as you prepare for your pro football career.
he is pretty good. Remind me of rothlisbuger. LETS GO PANTHERS. DONT SAY WE WILL GET IT NEXT SEASON AT THE END OF THIS SEASON LETS GET THAT RING THIS SEASON......
i would've like to have taken Pike at Tennessee as a backup. he could've been to Vince Young what Billy Volek was to Steve McNair. a quality back up and a prototypical NFL passer with an accurate long ball.
it'll be interesting to watch him develop at Carolina.
he should work on his long range accuracy and footwork, but overall pretty good. accuracy fades as you can see at 0:47 & 0:10, the balls were high and the wr really had to work for them
To San Fran in round 3? why not. He can definitely make the throws he has to make. I am confident in Alex Smith this season but if that somehow doesnt work we could have a couple of options
Most of Pike's INTs happenend during the Pitt game, when it was like -10, but everyone had trouble, 2 fumbled PATs, one missed cause of a baldly handled snap, and the other QB threw 2 INTs again a Cincy D known for being bad.
I just wanted to say that to eveyone that says he throws too many interseptions.
Quick release, great accuracy. Mobility is a plus.
Numbers may be a product of the spread system he was in. Decision making needs some work, but he can learn that. He seems to have adequate arm strength, but he never just chucked up any deep balls in those highlights so that can be called a question mark.
Really knows where his advantages are in terms of matchups, however, sometimes knowing that leads him to makes bad decisions.
dont really see what's so special about him. Running the spread makes it hard to really evaluate a QB prospect... Dont think he can make every throw in the NFL, but who's to say...
I liked the kid's accuracy. He has some really strong throws in there too.
I agree with your comment about the spread, but every qb in the draft ran the spread. Bradford, ran the spread. Clausen ran more pro style but still ran the spread. It goes on down the line. I think that's what makes it so tough and why there are so many busts in the NFL.
Why would you put interceptions on your highlight real, and why would durability be an issue. You aren't aloud to tackle a quarterback in the NFL anymore.
tomadchief2000: i 110% agree ive been telling people buffalo will take pike and i hope they do. im a diehard bills fan and i think pike is a HUGE the right direction. very accurate and pretty mobile for being 6'5
He really reminds me of Derek Anderson that same tall lanky QB with tons of touch on the ball, I kinda think because he can't rocket the ball will hurt him. Amazing touch tho, receivers will love him.
this guy will be succesful in the nfl, all these tall guys are.. withthat said i hope the vikings get this guy to compete for starting job when favre leaves
Tony Pike will be 24 which really isn't anything to panic about or to make you think twice about drafting him. He has good enough mobility, the speed he has isn't anything that'll hold him back in the next level. I think Tony Pike does a lot of things well. He will probably go 3rd to 4th round. A lot of people think he will be a career backup but i don't think so. Maybe a good nfl players comparison would be Chad Pennington? Obviously with not as good footwork but that is something he'll learn.
What I keep noticing about Pike is that he never steps into his throws, so you never see him try to laser anything down the field. He's an extremely accurate quarterback that is definitely a first round talent if anyone is in need of QB after the first 2.
Pike is most definitely not a first round talent. There are some thing to like about him as a prospect, like his accuracy in the short passing game, but too many other question marks right now. Arm strength is not good, can't move in the pocket very well, footwork/mechanical issues, not good throwing on the run outside the pocket, and will be older than most rookies. Not enough upside there to go high.
He will probably be a third rounder at best, perhaps even lower.
I really think he has good arm strength, his balls sail very well for not stepping into this throws. Very impressive accuracy at 2:30 and right after that at 2:36 look at him actually stepping into the throw and now you can see his zip on the ball. And obviously his footwork mechanics are awful but they are correctable. What he has now is rare accuracy, good enough arm strength for all the throws and very good mental aspect of the game hard working intangibles. Better footwork will be fixed.
TONY PIKE WAS THE MAN...from Cincinnati Reading, Ohio to the NFL...!!!

@BlancettModeling: I think he had six interceptions during his entire final season. They can't all be Clausen, who threw only four.
