  • Now I see it, now I don't.

  • 5:13 That's Gig Young in The Twilight Zone episode "Walking Distance" (October 1959). Yes, I know that was CBS but I know that episode by heart ...

  • 2:47 is that Paul Winchell?

  • Great stuff Ira! Have you anything from the period between Paas and Carson, or early Parr (especially in color). I saw Arlene Francis in one of the clips and it looks like she's sitting behind the Tonight Show desk. I know she did a week or two then, and in color!

This is a really wonderful site, and I appreciate your work! Keep your mojo working!

    Joe

  • dude lol they were very dirty some of these people its awesome

  • @weightfeather1 she was always pretty.

  • Ventriloquist Paul Winchell (without Jerry Mahoney) with Pat Carroll in one segment. Wow!

He was a very talented voice artist, musician, and actor. He also had a Saturday morning kids' show. Milton DeLugg was the band leader. 'Sort of a 'Tonight Show' Saturday mornings for kids...Great memories..

  • 1:50, i would have loved if that was a leave it to beaver blooper X3

  • @zitalee2 not me. The woman has no morals.

  • Dave Garroway and Jack Lescoulie!!

  • What Tv show was it where the theme shows a man gives himself a noogie and the song goes I boonie,or I noogie or something?

  • Classy people, weren't they.

  • things havint changed much. :D

  • this is dirty lmao!!!!!

  • 7:53 - 8:00 I can see the host joking, "That must've gotten the entire male population out of bed! Steve, if you're watching, I wish you were here!"

  • @jeprice08 But seriously, that woman really has nothing to be ashamed of. If I were the host, I would've wanted her to do that again. She ought to be in a bikini. Her body's outta sight!

  • TVDays, I realize this is your You Tube channel. But substituting your own commentary for the actual audio in "The Debbie Drake Show" contradicts your claim it is your "mission" to present genuine media of historical import, as the self-annointed "unofficial Baby Boomer Guru."

And even if that isn't your voice "narrating" Miss Drake's program, you are still not presenting the show as originally aired on television, therefore tinkering with historical media. For shame!

  • @gymnastix methinks your spanx are on too tight. The narration to Miss Drake's program was recorded back in the 60's and the 'tinkered media' was done probably by the film editor back in the day solely for 'humorous purposes' to entertain the studio employees as a 'gag reel', which is WHY Ira titled this YouTube clip "NBC GAG REEL". He is just sharing his vintage collection with us lucky viewers - so lighten up x nasti Gym.

  • @musicom67 I don't wear "spandex" (evidently the "d" and "e" keys of your keyboard are not depressing properly), as I am a non-bicycle-riding, non-dancing male.

But whoever is wearing those spandex, they must be pulled over 'your' head, if you may not see this video is not labeled "Gag Reel," but "LOST NBC OUTAKES1950's CLASSIC TV SHOWS & FILMS on DVDS at TVDAYS.com."

  • @musicom67 There is no proof presented this is from a "gag reel," so I therefore assumed the additional audio track to have been added post-production, probably more recently than in the era this TV program originally aired.

  • @musicom67 As for "lucky" viewers, with which self-annointed "Baby Boomer media guru" Ira Gallen allegedly "shares," if you read "Buyer's Guide To 50 Years Of TV On Video," by the late Sam Frank, you will see Ira Gallen's videos are not all that unique (every public domain video collector has most of the same videos, most lower-priced), and that he charges higher-than-average prices for his product, for which these brief You Tube uploads are glorified infomercials.

  • @musicom67 Furthermore, Gallen resells TV commercials he never paid for to begin with, because TV commercials were presumed disposable, not of any value after the selling cycle for which they were commissioned.

No matter what Gallen claims, unless the rights were renewed by the original contractor or his trustee, older TV commercials are in the public domain, are not his exclusive properties.

I know this, as I, too, am a video collector, who has insider knowledge about such matters.

  • @musicom67 And at 205 lbs. on a 6 ft. 1" frame, I am "light" enough to be agile, heavy enough to inflict damage, when provoked, "musi(cal)com(edy) person born in '67--or 67 years old.

  • @gymnastix Nah, born in 1967, and at 205 lbs. on a 6 ft. 2" frame, I could be a good contender - but find other outlets to relieve my built-up stress... Not to get involved in your 'beef' with Mr. Gallen, I humbly retract from further reaction from your agile, heavy, un-provoked countenance, not out of fear, but of choice. Oh, and SPANX are indeed a clothing and not a typo... Enjoy the upcoming holidays and don't eat too much Xmas ham. Now back to watching fun videos...

  • But perhaps with an excessive interest in playing video games and "texting" each other through the use of hand-held gadgets called "cell phones," younger persons are failing to read as much as in previous times?

I think that may explain why younger persons feel the need to chastise older persons for their display of knowledge of events before, say, 2010.

  • I am noticing a trend here, have seen it on other websites and here in comments a few times on this video's page, of younger persons taking exception to older persons, insulting the older for knowing information of an historical nature, as if only older persons may know historical facts, when it's really just a matter of acquiring knowledge through reading.

  • As Handiman544 points out, let there be no mistake - that WASNT Ethel Merman launching into the F word. Don't know who it was, though. Anyone know for real?

  • @uKooKu - Sorry folks its me responding to my own comment - chiding myself for not reading further. That was Kay Medford - thanks floralparkkid.

  • Just curious, but do any full kinescopes of 1950s exercise shows survive? Especially the low-low-budget local ones. For some reason I wouldn't mind seeing some (along with cooking, etc shows of time)

  • A rare clip of Arlene Francis hosting the Tonight Show - NICE! :-) Fantastic clips Ira, please keep them coming!

  • I have a copy of pretty much most to all of these blooper pieces in videotape quality in which they originated from 2 inch quad videotape. I've uploaded the swearing lady, Debbie Drake n Pantomime Quiz excerpts to my channel.

  • That isn't EThel Merman. God, how old are you anyway?

  • A very eclectic collection of rare TV clips. Especially the "soft-core" Debbie Drake clips...

  • I sure hope these filthy thing weren't done live! The lady is obviously doing an excersise show. Who was the woman doing the head stand? Gypsy Rose Lee?

  • Isn't that Paul Winchell at 2:47

  • @gmaureen Yes. That's Pat Carroll sitting next to him who later did the voice of Ursula the Sea Witch in The Little Mermaid.

  • That's Kay Medford not Ethel Merman cursing.

  • @floralparkkid You may be right - on further inspection, she appears to be much prettier than Merman but the voices are similar. In the Debbie Drake segment, the announcer says "You may want to just look on, if you're one of those types." I'm thinking "that type" would have included every straight man watching at that time. She was gorgeous and stacked to boot.

  • Ethel Merman saying "Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck Fuck" is priceless! The woman in the "Mutual of Omaha" bit looks like Pat Carroll. That announcer in the Debbie Drake segment is a bit of a perv, isn't he? "Look straight into the eyes of your hostess . . . if you can!" Gotta agree though - in that era Debbie Drake was about as hot as you could find on TV.

  • The OP got it right, Arlene Francis. She did many episodes of many shows. Remember the Gong Show?

  • Comment removed

  • Is that Betty White sitting at the desk behind the woman whose dress falls down standing on her head? Hilarious!

  • Ira--fabulous collection. "She's killed four directors." Wonderful!

  • Nice little piece with Arlene Francis (subbing on Tonight Show?) with the fabulously still beautiful cabaret legend Julie Wilson standing on her head. Looks like J. Winters is sitting on couch.

  • you know your tv. you must be 70

  • Most 70 year olds wouldn't have been able to pull that. Actually, closer to 50, but drawn to this stuff from early on. Can't really understand why but why fight it? When you were younger did you ever put your ear to the television while they were running a rerun of an old show years after its initial run and hear faintly "has been brought to you by" and be thrilled by it? When you were a kid did you TV Guide to photocopy old schedules for you? (They did!) And then there was What's My Line......

  • @tvdays be 72 now

  • the first time i have ever seen the F word used in 1950's television! wow great saturday night theatre.. LOL

  • Comedian Charley Weaver's real name was Cliff Arquette. He was the grandfather of actors Rose, Patricia & David Arquette. THANKS for these vastly entertaining clips! You've made my day! I hope all your dreams & wishes come true in the New Year! :)

  • @JubalCalif Was he the grandfather, or a great uncle? I thought Cliff Arquette was a bachelor (and a known sex pervert). Also, don't forget that Arquette family has a transgender member in its ranks--is it "Alexis?:

  • That's Dodie Goodman AuntJoon. Another Jack Paar regular. Funny lady.

  • Who's the woman with Cliff Arquette?

  • Look at 'ol "Charley Weaver" Cliff Arquette... What classic clips of him!!!!

  • these are great! tfp!

  • LOL! Too funny! I put this one in my favorites! great find Ira! Thanks for posting!

  • Ira, thank you for going back to doing what you do best, finding old commercials and lost tv footage. :) The DW Griffith/silent movie shorts are interesting, but this stuff is gold. :)

  • You brought these clips back to life! Thank you...

  • Hysterical! Wonderful footage. Thank you Ira
