Series 6 rushed her character ark way too much. She gets trained as an assassin and then runs away when she's like 7, regenerates, then manages to find her parents from new york to england as like a 6 year old??!! She even says "it took me forever to find you two". You're telling me not one person on the boat from new york to england asked her where her parents were? And then she grew up at school with her parents being the same age and the school lets her in with NO ADULT PARENTS?! BULLSHIT!
my only question will be once the time comes to finally say goodbye to her, how are amy and rory going to react to hear that their daughter dies in the library...
@ulesabby Because River and the Doctor's timelines are different. They go in opposite directions. Everytime she met him after giving him all her lives, he was younger and younger and knew less and less about her. So finally, the last time they met, he was so young he was in his 10th regeneration, and there, knowing she'd never see him again after this, she killed herself, but the Doctor saved her and her memories forever just because he was a good man, even though he didn't know her yet.
I consider myself a reasonably intelligent fellow and I must confess that I find it very difficult to follow the two oposing timelines and nearly impossible to predict anything. It has become incredibly confusing to me and I like it.
Wait, if she gave up all her remaining regenerations to save the doctor...I'm wondering if it is possible the doctor get's to use those so the doctor doesn't die on his thirteenth life but after he regenerates and uses River's regenerations. Maybe Doctor Who could go on for longer than we thought.
This helps me understand their whole timeline thing so much better, yet I still feel the need to watch it multiple more times to fully understand all that goes on with them. Not going to watch it now though, my head hurts from watching it just once...
@weekimbo97 She's presumably met future versions of the doctor. And she has a "spotter's guide", with different pictures of him. Though, she doesn't know which order they are in.
You know what I still don't get? In Forest of the Dead River says the Doctor took her out right before she went to the library, but in Day of the Moon River says that was their last kiss. I don't believe the Doctor would take her out right before she dies and not kiss her.
@princesskalika At the time River probably thought it would be there last kiss in Day of The Moon cause he said he'd never kissed her before. But obviously with the wacky timelines an older Doctor would have kissed her at The Singing Towers. In The Impossible Astronaut River says ' back-to-front timlines', which it's not. So maybe she expected a younger doctor the next time, when it could have been an older... It's all very confusing ;)
@princesskalika Well, they aren't moving in strictly opposite directions, that may have been only what she assumed would be the case when she thought it would be thier last kiss. Hell, she could jump from the 11th doctor to the 15th, to the 107th, and to the 1st, 2nd, 2rd, 4th, and 5th and give them all amnesia to preserve the timestream. Time bends to her whim. Wibbly wobbly timey wimeys and all that jazz.
and when exactly did all those times they shared together happen "you and me time and space you watch us run"? cause we only saw a few adventures and they weren't even lovers in them, just flirting. when did they fall in love? and when did she hear his name, if he didn't tell it to her on top of the pyramid!?
Was there a special where River goes through her timeline? Did you take bits and pieces from what the actual actor said, or did you find someone who could do a really good impersonation?
You guys do remember River gave the Doctor all her regenerations, right? She's gone twice. She had 11 left over. She gave them all to him. Even if she could have survived the energy surge in the Library she had nothing left to come back with. But he's got them all now. And I really doubt there will be any bringing River back.
Where does Moffat explain the 200 years? Also, is that when Jim the Fish and Easter Island happen because The Doctor doesn't know about them when he goes to 1969 but does when he goes to Utah the second time. Also, he has his own diary then with adventures. Are those all from the 200 years during which he is making his farewell tour?
@Jamestopboy concerning the whole "River knowing all of The Doctor's faces" from what I understood when he gave her the diary he probably put all of his faces in at that time. I admit that it is possible that she has the 12th and 13th Doctor's faces but I don't know. In this universe anything is possible.
moffet won't kill off river (or send her to the computer) because now she has a MASSIVE story line. Right now she IS docter who (btw the docters name is signa)
@nationalstupidity unfortunetely, River has to die,the way she died during the 10th doctor's time because, if she doesnt go to the library, she lives but the doctor wouldnt have met her in the past, creating a paradox in the future. only people who aren't connected to the doctor should be able to visit and alter his timeline without creating paradoxes
@crussader55 that might be true but if you remember, the doctor can only have 13 regenerations but doctor who has been such an amazing and successful business that moffet will find a way to give the docter more life,. River might get her own series like sara jane, but in the computer.
@nationalstupidity maybe in the future, the Doctor may find a way to save her from the computer, she's his wife after all. and about the Doctor's regenerations, if you remember, the timelords offered the Master a brand new regeneration cyrcle, which i think means that regenerations can happen artificialy( non-naturaly) maybe by the use of specific equipment. but,no matter what happens, the Doctor Who mustn't end, i mean it's been on air for 48 years, even with another timelord, the show must continue
@billyharriss Details... Minor Details... but She's a Timelord for crying out loud! They always find a way. And besides, have you ever heard of Stow aways?
@billyharriss Also, not to mention the lady working for the silence who kidnapped her in the first place could have involved herself because what better way to get to the doctor then to befriend his companion?
Question, When did the doctor tell her his name? Because at the wedding he said; "Look into my eye" instead of his name. Yet in when she dies she knows his name...
@Elsemoon It must be a future episode because the oldest question of the universe was revealed to be "Doctor Who?" And the big reveal hasn't happened yet so that would be strange if she already knows.
It's raining on my face... Who else can tell the story of River Song. I just want to see again the first appearance of River and see that everything seems different.
What confuses me is, I thought the Doctor who "died" was 200 years older? I mean, he knew about most of the adventures with River, no? I'm so confused.
@riceball23 Moffat explained that those 200 years happened between The God Complex and Closing Time. He found Dorium, learned of the Brigadier's death, and then went on a farewell tour (including all of the times he "waved" to Amy and Rory throughout history in The Impossible Astronaut).

Not exactly right. His encounter with Dorium and the Brigadier's death were what ended his farewell tour, after the events of Closing Time, not before.
Must be horrible. Her first actual encounter with her Mom consisted of said Mom pulling a gun on her and going "Die, you damned murderer!" Of course, Amy couldn't possibly have known, but think of how poor River must've felt. I like that they went through the trouble of making this, it helps you to actually see her gradual character developement.
Awesome summary. Still we have that little part of River to see in the next season, when she discovers his name, he gives her his screwdriver and she gets ready to travel to the Library.
