I actually feel really bad for Dean. I don't see him as the bad guy, I just see him as a guy who's confused at this sudden change in Prudy, who I think is erupting with pent up tension. I love that he just wants to stand by Prudy, and still be with her, even though she's trying her hardest to push him away, to leave her, to act in the way she assumes he'll act - as the popular boy finally realizing that he's married to the class nerd. And I think it's Prudy that learns and matures by the end.

Allegra is probably not normally accident-prone, but subconsciously, puts herself in dangerous situations so her dad and mom can come together over her in the hospital and maybe some more afterwards. This is very commom in divorced families--the self-destructive kid.

the more times I watch this, the more parallels I see between the individual storylines and those in Austen's books. I enjoy this film for that reason a little bit more on every watch.
