Ok, I had to buy a new Xbox as the rrod one rroded again, twice, lasted a month each time almost, even got chucked out the window and still powered on and ran for another month. What happened with me after I cleaned out the thermal messes on the chips, the XBOX worked again. Then I turned it on and set up

XBOX live and all like normal. I popped in cod world at war, started Nazi zombies then these black and white bars appeared. I turned the XBOX off then on again and it had red ring of death all over again!

1. i hav too much games on my xbox alrdy.

2. PS3 dont have halo or gears of war.

3. Ps3 has the laggiest online ive ever played.

4. ps3 controllers r way too small for my hands.

5. lots less hackers/modders/etc... on xbox.

6. easy to fix when it messes up.

7. better to pay for good online than to get lag for free.

.... and if you can't be bothered with all that, switch off the xbox (with the rrod lights on) hit the eject tray, holding it shut to stop it opening, hit the panic button(one that registers the controllers) twice, holding on second, then hit eject again. All lights will flash, switch off again,,,, fixed.

IMPORTANT if u just want a quick fix THAT DOES WORK READ

1.put ur xbox in a place that is visable at all times

2.check your xbox's ring every 10 to fifteen minutes

3.IF u are to get it when you look over get UP and RUN to ur 360 take the cords from the back of it and get them out FAST after that take ur harddrive out (if u got 1)

4.leave it there in front of a fan for about 1 hour and make sure the fans blowing cool air

the red ring of death is actually caused by many different reasons, the red ring of death is most commonly caused by haet but in alot of other occasions it can be caused by dust getting into your xbox360 and burning into the motherboard, and if you fix the xbox yourself if it breaks again you cant send it in because of stickers on the inside of the system, if they see that thoses stickers have been moved they wont repair it, so if you have an xbox, DONT TRY AND REPAIR IT YOURSELF

I've done the towel trick and it sure did work, but yes, I know it does permanent damage as you're not only "re-soldering the gpu" but also "un-soldering the CPU" and other shit aswell.

But I didn't care, that 360 was already broken and I wasn't going to do anything.. so I fixed it with the towel thing in order to play while my new console was shipped :)

BUT now I have the E74. And not gonna towel trick it.. gotta try a decent fix this time.

theres over 400 solder joints holding the GPU to the motherboard, its not just going to shake loose. The more likely problem is one or more solder joints coming undone due to excessive heat. so messing with the heatsink might be a band-aid to the problem, but ultimately, if it is a "loose" GPU, the only real fix is to remove the GPU, clean it and the motherboard, re-ball it, then re-solder it. The RROD can mean over 100 different errors the xbox is having. do your homework!!

@Basement306Vids yes, its a temporary fix, but all the while you're heating your gpu to "re-solder", you're also heating everything else to the point of melting.

Which, obviously, isn't good for the system.

But yes, if you only want a few hours, days or a week more time to play and don't care even if the console burst in flames, you can do it. Just like I did, while waiting on my new console to be delivered :)

But do know that it really can render the whole console unfixable.
