Do many rats causes disease? I ever had this cute pet, but only one rat. I want to keep many rat, probably 10 to 20 rats, but my mom afraid that many rats in the house can bring disease to our family. Please answer. :i love rats...

Rats are the best! The ones from Europe are totally different from here in the U.S. I've had 6 so far & they are very social, clean & loving. PET rats are NOT street rats! It is better if you can get one from a breeder or local rescue vs a pet store - you don't know where they came from or their health history. It's unfortunate that they don't have very long life spans.
Germans and Dutch pet rats do got the best personal and breed genetics, I've to say, after years and years of owning rats myself. The last 6 years only focused on rats from the netherland or germany cause of their size, stabil mentality and cause of their huge personality :) Ofc, the rule only goes - avoid breeders who breed for their colours only, and not their personality or health :S
Your rats are beautiful! I'm also a pet rat lover! Once you had them, you can never live without them. They are like a drug. The most UNDERRATED ever. They are cute, smart, highly intelligent and adorable. Such a shame most people see them only as food for snakes, frogs and whatever. Shame on you people! We all know the food chain in nature, but to feed these cute little animals to snakes and whatever is really sickening!
Best is that rats are perfect for those that can't have a dog or a cat. Rats are just as intelligent and fun to be with but pocket sized! And really just like any other rat owner I know how easily they bond with you and want to play!
Got two if my own, a boy and a girl. And I adore them. Never thought that my gf would have been oké with it for having rats in the house, since she is scared to death of rats. Mostly because out of ignorance though. She still won't pet them, but now she can stand the look of them a bit better, this after two months. One day she will pet them, I'm sure. (^-^)
I adore rats and I also breed them. I have had plenty of wonderful experiences with them and I have 13 at the moment. 10 of them are babies and are being sold shortly to a nice local pet store that doesn't sell them as snake food. I will be keeping two.

I used to breed fancy mice, and I've owned many, many rats. While I might agree that mice are generally prettier, they cannot even nearly match the intelligence or cuddles of rats. Rats are simply more charming, in my opinion. And they're much more rewarding as pets. :)

@XFuckingNightmareX rats dont like chicken because they aren't true omnivores, they are insectivores. if rats actually eat meat fats they have a huge increase chance of tumors and cancer (this is true, its proven scientificly and through trail and error)

Rats have been domesticated for over 200 years.You should be saying "whats the world comming to people keeping dwarf hamsters!" I am saying this because they were taken out of their natural habitat and that are still considered wild animals.

I know what you mean.. I always get a surprised, sometimes 'are you crazy' or grossed out look. Then they want to ask questions and I spend most of the time defending rats.

Hehe, my dog is afraid of my rats too. I love rats, they are great pets. Very friendly and affectionate.
