I came here because 2 days ago I watched a movie about the Mirabal sisters. It is called, "In The Time Of The Butterflies", on HBO, starring Salma Hayak and Edward James Olmos. I knew nothing about the sisters or Dominican history till I saw the things that happened there. I cried at the end to see the beautiful sisters murdered so horribly! Now Nov. 25 will be a special date I'll always remember!
if anybody here thinks that what these women did was a waiste of time u r wrong. i bet u fifty percent of these people r women and without the maribals u would probobly not be here right now! so u better show ur apreciation god damnit cause without the mirabals most of the latinos would be dead! i am 11 years old and i am saying this so show some love will ya!!! like if u agree! thank you, kandi
I just finish watching a movie about the lives of these women and it was so sad. And it is also my first time hearing about these women. These courageous women are hereos. May they RIP.
These young 'ladies, (they were mother's, wives), stood up to dictator Rafael Trujillo.
Trujillo's thugs stopped the car as they were driving home after visit with husband, in jail. These cowardly 'thugs', enforcers of terror, hired hoods or whatever noun that simply can't b defined by me.
Note: I am American, heritage of European background. This is not about the Dominican Republic. Difficult to define. It is of mankind, simple rights that is all they wanted!
How the hell did this start a Haitian racism battle!!! THIS VIDEO IS MEANT TO REMEMBER THREE BEAUTIFUL YOUNG WOMEN WHO SACRIFICED THEMSELVES FOR MY COUNTRY!!! SHOW SOME DAMN RESPECT!!!
Can you guys have a little respect for my culture and my country... This clearly means a lot to Dominicans and many others as well, and if you aren't going to respect what amazing contributions and sacrifices the Mirabal sisters and their family has done then I pray that maybe you'll someday wake up and realize how beautiful the history of 'The Mariposas' and have some respect for others and yourself.
I can't believe so many people are posting such hateful shit HERE, this video is to remember the sacrifice of these three women to be rid of an evil tyrant. Get over yourselves, shame....
@wugufugu I don't understand how you came to that conclusion with Haitian people. There's plenty of intelligent, successful, Haitians out there. For me to find someone that can think so negatively about them is just crazy... I don't understand it.
And also, to the dark skinned people comment: I've seen many comments (similar to the one you made) on other videos. They're usually towards Africans or dark-skinned islanders, so usually, I group them with people who are "anti-african," so to speak.
@DetectiveTective Exactly Sista! A Quick Peruse of the Facts will Show that Geo-Political Decisions made by the French and U.S. Government, which were Overwhelmingly Unfavorable to the Haitian People, is the Root Cause of the Contemporary Condition in the Nation.
Continue to Rep your Flag, Sis! And Respect to Aristide! L'Union Fait La Force!
@wugufugu I swear, you're as bad as when people blamed the Jews for everything bad that happened in their lives! And I didn't even WANT to make this three comments long, but you drove me there! I don't take too kindly to people who insult MY people! And as a strong Haitian woman, I'll fight back against this. Keep stupid comments like these in your little pea brain. It's simply unnecessary.
@wugufugu Honestly, it just outright disgusts me that people can act so childishly and think such ridiculous things about Haitian people. It makes me think that you guys just don't give a damn about anything related to Africans or dark-skinned people/islanders! The only useless one here that I see is you, you insignificant little troll! If you want to talk bad about someone, talk about yourself. Don't blame an entire race for other people's problems.
@wugufugu How DARE YOU say that!! Haitian people are FAR BEYOND USELESS! We were one of the first races to actually start a revolution against the European colonizations in the early 1800s and have the other countries follow after us! As slaves brought to the island, our culture became the most dominant there! Haitians have always always ALWAYS fought back! And when we need help, only so few people will go out of their way to help us. Even the U.S. was on the side of Trujillo for a brief while!
God Bless People standing up to dictators everywhere..hopefully,one day, theyll ALL be gone..

@THISISSPARTA827 both of of them are the same, the only difference is the time period, but other than those 2 should have never come to power.
