  • truly sensational song. Always enjoy it. Thanks for loading.

  • Thank you. The song and your lyrics and translation are both great.

In the lyrics and description, when Lata sings "Nath nakan sajirvani, Gala bharun sonyache mani ", nath is nose jewellery, so the translation should be, The ring on my nose is lovely and my neck is full with golden beads.

The beauty of this song is that Hemant Kumar was a Bengali ! I doubt he ever spoke Marathi in his life. But even today, if you go to any Koli house in Mumbai, there is a good chance this song is being played there.

As they say "Only in India ... "

This song we had used for a koli dance. Since then I never got another opportunity to listen. Your uploading has given me an opportunity to listen once again. Thanks

  • @RSS377

I am glad that this song revived your memories of mid eighties, but as I have said in the information, I listened to this song in 1969 for the first time. Though I could not understand the meaning at that time but the music is so melodious that it etched in my memory. I am glad to upload it for the pleasure of all who love this evergreen song. Please explain the meaning of this song.

  • Meaningfull songs & folk songs don't have boundaries & are timeless. In 1986 while in school in bangalore one of our teachers had taught us this song & also made us dance for this song on our annual day. I did not understand a word at that time but still liked it & made it part of my folk songs book.. along with kannada songs. And today when I have understood the meaning am able to enjoying even better.Thankyou very much for uploading this rendition.

Thank you Pankaj Bhai.I am glad you too like this song.

  • Though I do not know Marathi language, it makes only a marginal difference in appreciating the beauty of this melodious creation.

Overwhelming effect indeed. Your introductory note is excellent Sharmaji.

    Thanks.

  • @sqhzaidi

    Thank you Zaidi Sahab.

It makes no difference whether we know Marathi or not, It is the melody which trickles down to the bottom of the heart and creates a pleasant effect in the mind. Please listen to it few times and then play it on your keyboard to create another timeless melody.

  • @kuckudk It is certainly a great melody. Thanks.

    Regards.

  • @sqhzaidi You are right Sir..makes only marginal difference. The song and 2 more Koli Geets were penned by Shanta Shelke (1922-2002), an eminent Professor in Marathi and litterateur - excelled in stories, novels, poetry, literary criticism. Besides she also wrote lyrics for 300 + Marathi movies. It is a folklore of Koli (fishing community) of West Coast - Bombay area. I am familiar with the smell (of the song and the fish). Mangeshkar-brother sister and Hemant da have made it memorable.

    Regards.

  • @rumahale It gives me extreme pleasure to read this note about Shanta Shelke (1922-2002). What a beautiful person, indeed.

    Thanks, Mahaleji.

  • Thanks for finding, posting sharing Sharma ji - a truly delectable favorite of mine...

From Meera Bhajans (Chala Vahi Des) to Marathi abhangs (fMogara Phulala) to Ghalib Ghazals to Bhagawad Gita Hridaynath Mangeshkar is outstanding...

I am very glad that you enjoyed this timeless Duet.

  • Although I don't understand Marathi, I must admit that I have enormously enjoyed this song thr' the language of the heart being infinitely deeper than the language of words..Hemant Kumar's & Lata Ji's golden thrilling mellifluous voices are so penetrating that the earth and the sky, the atmosphere, the ocean and all nature combined are participating in the sweet rhythm of this song..5 golden stars for you Sharma Ji for your million dollar upload.Your slide is highly impressive.Best regards : Dev
