  • I thought the canopy opened to the sides, not in front?

  • @starwarsjazz, it does on the HD but I wanted to have the XL version so I bhought the drawings for the XL canopy aswell.

  • Great plane! I'm going to build the same one. Any tips or warnings? I'm going with the Jabiru 3300.

  • @Avi8orKeith

Just follow the drawings right and do not use an aerovee engine. The 3300 Jabiru 120 hp engine will be very nice for the 601 HD, I whish I had bhought that engine myself. If I knew then what I know now about the 601 HD I would have builded the XL model instead with an Jabiru 3300 engine but since the XL has had problems with the wings folding I am happy that I have built my HD.

  • @razvan790120 Why did you prefer the XL model over the HD you built? What features about it make it better to you? I love the HD mainly because of the polyhedral wing. Can I build the HD as a light sport aircraft or is there just no way to lighten the airframe even with the Jabiru?

  • @Avi8orKeith becouse of it´s higher cruise speed, higher rollrate, diferent landing gear. You can build your HD as a light sport aircraft, talk to zenithair about that when u buy your drawings. Dont expect the aircraft to perform as they say on the home page, atleast if you put 80hp in usual HD. I have come to one coclusion. As long as you are buying there product, everything is ok but as soon as problems apear they dont know nothing and it does not matter who you buy from,

  • @Avi8orKeith

If you like, skip the header tank behind the instrument panel and use two wings tanks instead. do not rivet the aluminium skin that covers the instrument pannel, use screws instead, some day you will need to work under it ad it nice not to have to drill out the rivets.

If you have more question let me know.

    good luck, Razvan

  • I love that picture of you and your daughter in the unfinished cockpit...

  • thanks :-)

  • Thanks. It took me 2 years and 7 month. Workt with the plane every day. It is nice to fly in the winter landscape but now I am tired of it, I want green fields and sun. I choosen the aerovee becouse of the prise, much cheaper. But now I wish i did´nt. The aerovee is on 80hp but I get only 65-66hp out of it. The engine is to weak for this aircraft. Are you building one

    to?

  • Good job, man. I've watch all these videos of you building this plane. Very impressive that you took the long road by making everything yourself. How long did it took you from start to finish? Must be very nice to fly with all that snow there in Sweden. What horse power do you get from your aerovee and are you satisfied with it? Why did you not fit a Rotax? Anyway, congratulation on this job and beautifull aerie.
