This is my first time watching the dub version, I've watched the jap version many times. It sounds great but Sanzo's voice could be deeper and stronger for really good delivery of his speeches later on. So far I like it...

@M3ANMACHINE1 Saiyuki and dragon ball are two different mangas, but both are based in the same traditional Chinesse tale (which is, in fact, named Saiyuki). In Dragon Ball we just see one of the most important characters: The Monkey King, Son Goku. Akira Toriyama taked the character (more or less), but Kazuya Minekura is adapting the full story (more or less, again XD). For more info you can sarch for it in wikipedia or google.

Also someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the kid named "Goku", has the same name as goku from dragonball z, did they steal it, or was this show made first, or there both based on Journey to the West, but that would be weird always hearing them call that kid Goku, lol

@TheInuyashaFan917 well... as far as i know, goku is a monkeyguy with extremely kick-ass martial-art skills... asian mythology kind of thing. so yeah.. since the 2 series are about martial arts in their own way a goku-guy had to be one of the main characters i guess. it's not that they stole it... ;)

@dlwilliam actually this is supposed be somewhat gay. I looked it up. So yes it's supposed to imply that they are. It's probably SanzoXGoku and HakkaiXGojyo. ;P Not sure about the couples but hey. If you watch the ending for the later episoded it changes it it really implies it.

*facepalm* Fuck my life. I've been searching for over 30 minutes and there isn't even a sign of an English Subbed version. It's all dubbed over by shitty voice actors. Is an english subbed version that ISN'T on crunchyroll so much to ask for? Crunchyroll is the equivalent of using my TV. Tons of ads and shitty commercials after every 4 minutes of actual anime I see... I'm ready to give up on finding a subbed version at this point =.='

No, Son Goku is the Japanese translation of Sun Wukong, the Monkey King. It is a Chinese story. Dragon Ball's Goku was named after Sun Wukong. Journey to the West (story of Monkey King) influenced the story of Dragon Ball. This explains why many DB characters have Shaolin Monk style clothing even though it is a Japanese creation/animation. The Goku in this anime is also influenced by Journey to the West which is translated to Saiyuki in Japanese.

Man, too bad the character designs were based on Minekura's early work. She has improved 7 fold with Saiyuki Reload Blast, Saiyuki Ibun, & the Saiyuki Gaiden series. I can't wait til Blast gets animated! But she has to finish it first & it's so new.

Gojyo reminds me of Gambit from X-Men.

The dubed voices of the main characters were pretty good, especially compared to Gojyo's annoying Japanese voice. Too bad they didn't get the same voices for Reload & Gunlock. Well, actually, it took 3-5 episodes for Sanzo's actor to really get a feel for how Sanzo should sound.
