Art of the Dunes

Thanks for the reply --- I've reached the conclusion that 'dune art' is indeed about sand dunes, and not 'Dune', though the setting of the book leads one to confusion, you must agree. And there are pieces of artwork out there depicting scenes from the ever-popular 'Dune.' But yup, dune art = natural sand art.

Nice display of the airport and the artwork -- do you know if 'dune art' is a category of art, such as a term describing dunes and their depiction? I have an assignment requiring an essay on 'dune art' and first thought of the book Dune, but 'sand dune' sounds more realistic.

We checked with DEN's Art Administrator who told us that we coined the term in referring to representations and interpretations of Colorado's sand dunes. It was not in relation to the book Dune. To our knowledge it is not considered a genre. Good luck with the assignment.
