I live in Louisiana. I hope that this caucus, by only showing black people, is not trying to say that poverty is primarily a black issue. Poverty exists across the board within all racial communities. It may be more prevalent in South within the black community but it is by no means confined there. I'm completely poor too; I pay $975 a month in rent, nothing included, and live on 5 to 10 dollars a day for food. But I have self respect so I don't take handouts--no welfare, no food stamps, no SNAP, no section 8. You can be poor and still have some dignity. You can at least clean up the trash in your yard.

So you're poor...that's sad...but why do I now equate being poor w/being incapable to take care of your home and surroundings? If you can't find work, find a patch of earth and grow a garden. Seeds aren't expensive. Get nails and help from a neighbor...patch up the roof. Fix up some of the stuff in your yard...sell it. Ingenuity & pride seem to be lost; maybe that's what fuels the vicious circle. I've never seen poverty, so before you hate, you tell me why I see it this way & why I'm wrong

I grew up in poverty like that. Most of my family still live like that. They almost all have a High school diploma. The problem isn't a HSD or how many kids they have. The problem is the kids see how the people around them live and don't know they can do better. They end up in the same neighborhood, in most cases the same house they grew up in, surrounded by the same type of people working the same types of min wage jobs. They think that is normal. Lucky for me my Gma was different & I got out.

@HardlineAthiest you are correct, my family used to own rental property. we tried desperately to keep the rent low, provide a descent place (admittedly not fancy) but a descent, comfortable, serviceable home at the lowest rent we could. we did everything we could to help people over rough times. our thanks was usually a filthy, trashed property to take care of after tenents skiped on the rent. we sold out to an a**hole slum lord. he gives em what they deserve.

This video does not make me feel sorry for the people living in those run-down houses. I'm completely poor too; I pay $975 a month in rent, nothing included, and live on 5 to 10 dollars a day for food. But I have self respect so I don't take handouts--no welfare, no food stamps, no SNAP, no section 8. You can be poor and still have some dignity. You can at least clean up the trash in your yard.

There's poor people in every ethnicity in America today! However, the real issue is since America is allegedly the richest nation in human history, is that nobody should be living in poverty! But many do because the income inequality is spreading further and further apart. Jobs are going overseas. We're more concerned about bailing out the banks and insurance companies and brokerage houses instead of bailing out the poor. We're spending billions of dollars a day for wars we can't afford.
