  • Some of the most useless degrees are womens' studies, world religions, anthropology, philosophy, literature, drama/theater, government and political science. Psychology is also a bad choice. A business major is versatile and broad enough to be marketable, though. I would recommend majoring in business.

  • @mochafudgetruffle

glad I did international studies in undergrad.... but hey I got a useless job working in international trade in Istanbul at a bank. but hey my major is apparently worthless. Turns out they loved to know which countries to not do business in, which banks in said countries to avoid etc etc. but hey like you said. I had a useless degree. whatever. It doesn't matter what you major in, if you go to school for a job with no goal in mind failure is your only result.

  • @lordblazer people are stilll getting good jobs with the worthless lib arts degrees (Philospohy, poly sci, theater etc.) but they are few and far between today. For example, the average salary for a communcations major is $50,000. Thats for people who were lucky enough to get a communicaitons related job. when did you graduate? I'm guessing it was some years back when a degree still meant something because not many people had them. Today everyone has them and most of them are lib arts degrees.

  • @destroyer8604

last year... I got it in international studies/econ... But to be fair my knowledge base is within poli sci and int'l trade. Sooooo It is how I got the opportunities that I did, and to mention I was always overseas doing the things I needed to do to network. There are jobs out there, but people look in the wrong directions. Today everyone either has engineering, business, finance, accounting degrees. They are pursued en masse. So it doesn't matter what degree you get.

  • @destroyer8604

you're still competing for very few career opportunities. Its kinda why after a yr I went back to grad school with peace corps while I'm doing that I am taking advantage of my location here in DC a lot of network opportunities here, and am also close to other major cities in the NE by amtrack. Also it helps that I'm multi-lingual. I found my job opportunities overseas though not at home in oklahoma(none are in this state). Anyway ppl need some sort of vocational training now

  • i bet her finance friend cut her salary in half after finance friend got promoted for knowing things

  • Why are you guys brainwashing yourselves to think college is worthless. She has a degree in fucking theater. No shit she's not getting a job. Don't go to college and take a worthless major. Accounting, Nursing, Engineering, Physics and any degree that's actually worth something, you'll do great. Just work your ass off and don't take an easy major. It gets you nowhere.

  • @markuseraccount I agree 100%. The woman in the video said she has a job in finance and works with a person who went to school & works with her in finance, yet I wonder how competent this woman is in her job. In my city, there are some very incompetent people working for employment agencies that tick me off because they don't write accurate job ads & that makes me wonder how intelligent these people are.

  • @markuseraccount

theater isn't too bad, can think of a few things you can do with it, but involves a lot more networking and social skills than people take for credit. lib arts majors do well, art majors do decent to. I think people need to have set goals in mind, and they are fine. I don't think the major matters all too much so goal as you set your goals objectively, and meet them, research whatever your major is, and know where to get your foot in the door afterwards.

  • College is only good if you attend overseas.

  • If you don't work toward your strengths, educate to your strengths, determine what YOU need you've just blown it. And you need to obtain not just knowledge but critical skills and attitudes to not only survive but thrive in today's economies.

  • People are sheep relying too much on schools and colleges that don't care about you ,serve their own agendas, while you 'believe' you're getting something of value. You are taught to merely take in knowledge and regurgitate for a test. Today, more than ever before since half of all income comes from the creative sector #1.7 billion, you need to think critically, logically, independently, and intuitively to get ahead. Learn what YOU need to learn not some self-promoting school or college

  • women's studies.

  • cute

  • Nowadays, every major seems to be worthless. You have many people with engineering, law, and nursing degrees which are seen as "on-demand" but struggling to find work. Sooner or later med school grads will be fighting for limited residency positions.

  • Silly business majors. They really do think they're so much better than the rest of us. But liberal arts majors are also annoying, as they tend to think they've found some way to beat the system.

  • @Rosebunse Yeah true dat....business majors get on my dam nerves with there fucking siddityness!!!

  • @wizfan92301 Yes, business majors. I mean, is that even a valid degree anymore? You can get the same kind of job with an English or math degree.

  • @Rosebunse No...no you can't get the same kind of job --- or at least you're 10 times less likely to get the job with the liberal arts degree. The math degree has some value, but the English degree is worthless.

  • @stebecool I know a few English majors who got more or less the same job as someone with a Business degree, but I think they knew their way around. I think a math degree is really good for going on to graduate school, but for an actual job, I think you should try something a little more practical.

  • @Rosebunse Not necessarily, imagine a ladder. Someone who didnt go to college will start at the bottom and work their way up. Whereas someone with a business degree will be hired at a higher level. Now depending how good the degree is/how much experience you have, you may start at a level where your working with people math degrees etc. Or you could start even higher, or even get promotion faster than other people. The point is, business degrees are very useful in big businesses

  • @Rosebunse

can get a job with mathematics. Just because it isn't matching a job description doesn't mean you can't get a job with it. Anyway people need to set goals on what they want to study and the options they have with it. I don't believe there is a useless major, just people not willing to look at all options thoroughly and be creative about their choices. I've seen too many successful people who got degrees in these so called "useless" majors for me to believe they're useless.

  • @stebecool

yet my sister with an english degree is doing well for herself so what are you talking about?

  • FYI,

The Liberal Arts, despite popular misconceptions, consists of the traditional, educational component of university and would, today, include Philosophy (esp. its formal component: logic), Mathematics, the Theoretical Physical Sciences (esp. physics/astronomy), English/Literature, History, Languages and Linguistics. Theatre is not a Liberal Arts degree. It is a Fine Arts degree. In any case, there is little sense in using "Liberal Arts" given what is actually consists in.

  • LoL I LOVE watching these videos of losers...crap i mean people who attain a degree in the most WORTHLESS field ever and expect to get a pay that will rid them of their college and bank debts. Degree in liberal arts? business? stfu and gtfo if you want a better pay major in a field of study that is actually in need today and that will make a difference in peoples everyday lives (i.e medicine, engineering) thank you!

  • @Aceofspadezz69 I doubt you're a college grad.

  • @vcdna1 did I say I was?

  • LoL I LOVE watching these videos of losers...crap i mean people who attain a degree is the most WORTHLESS field ever and expect to get a pay that will rid them of their college and bank debts. • Its not that a liberal arts degree is more useless then a business degree, its that both are useless.

  • If you went to four years university just to use that degree in the field. I have two words for you and that is "Good Luck" because you might not be able to use that worthless piece of paper that you called a college degree.

  • The problem is biggger than what you guys describe

  • i would say however that UK university education needs to improve a hell of a lot if they're going to justify charging £9k. At least in the US you get what you pay for, here it's just an awful system at present.

  • another person with an arrogant attitude problem with a chip on their shoulder against those who are simply trying to get educated and pursue a career. Why don't people understand that whilst you can be successful without a degree, we still need people with in depth technical understanding on topics to contribute to the running of different industries!!

  • @Invertedzero Maybe this is just a scam to weed people so there's less competitive down the line. I don't mind that.

  • I have worked alongside university grads with degrees and immigrants from 3rd world countries who can barely speak English. We all got the same wage, degree or not. It's what you make it.

A lot of university grads just give up too fast and grab a boring, dead-end, somewhat decent paying job. It depends a lot on the person.

  • one entire min of my life wasted on not laughing at this, I'm from the UK, and we don't say lame, but LAME,

  • degree = lies, then they send you a bill.

  • @aatifshakur Basic common sense questions based on reading comprehension, for the most part. Some questions were so pathetically easy I thought they were trick questions.

  • well, knowing shortcuts on excel would probably have a better chance of getting a six figure job as opposed to theater

  • Actually I'm LIVING PROOF that you don't need college to earn a decent living.

I took a civil service test (only high school diploma required) in 2003, and now I got a job as a NYC subway train operator.

My base salary is $66,674, but there are so many extras ("bonus time", "deadhead time", etc) that regularly boost my annual salary to over 70K for only 40hrs work.

If I put in the amount of hours the average corporate drone does I would easily earn six figures.

  • @ejdf870 How did you get the knowledge/skills to beat everyone else out in the test? Obviously, I don't deny your point since I know numerous pathways besides a college education that could get you good pay.

  • @movcrit Honestly, I thought it was one of the easiest tests I've taken since Junior High. It was so easy, in fact, that I thought this test was full of trick questions.

  • I think that most college kids get these loans and major in something stupid Philosophy or folk lore and they that those degrees will get them a job. That probably why they are working at mac donalds.

  • every comment i have read on here is worthless.

  • Unless you're smart enough to go to the Ivies and major in something difficult and useful (i.e., engineering and medicine), you might as well skip college altogether. If you're really smart, you can go to any college and major in anything and make loads of $. Sure, there are exceptions and you probably know someone who went to a small no-name school and still became successful. Those are far and few in between and don't think you're going to be just like him/her.

  • @XXsubzeroXX666 finally, as far as outsourcing jobs, it takes an educated class of Americans to stop that. you can yell and shout about problems all you want, but when people find out you're uneducated they don't care what you have to say. before you talk about homeless vets you should talk to one and find out his/her story. or join yourself. i was a homeless vet for a short period of time, but i used my resources and things worked out quite well

  • @XXsubzeroXX666 no one should have to sit down and tell those kids how to use those programs.those "kids" are now adults and if they need money they need to take the time to look for programs out there for themselves. no one is going to hold their hand anymore. there's a lot of reasons to go to college if you know wtf you're going into. people go to college b/c mommy and daddy said to and they major in something retarded that they can't apply in the real world

  • @XXsubzeroXX666 that $500 scholarship is just one example, there's literally thousands out there like that. people don't apply to those b/c they have that mentality. "wtf am i going to do with $500?" everyone knows in college that every penny counts. the military isn't a scam. people end up homeless for their own reasons. they don't keep track of their own finances.

  • I have a liberal arts degree in Philosophy. It was fascinating expensive entertainment but don't plan on getting good job with that or any liberal arts degree in this economy. So I learned my mistake and now I'm finishing a second degree in Management Information Systems and working in software development. Most of that was useless too except businesses now call me in to interview for high paying jobs.

  • Everyone search youtube for "Worthless Degrees" and then talk. College is not a scam or worthless unless you make it worthless (pay them 20,000 a year to party rather than WORK or choosing a worthless degree). Example: engineering versus philosophy. What are you going to do with a philosophy degree? Nothing related to philosophy. What are you going to do with an engineering degree? Do something that society will pay you for, and you'll make money and get a job.

  • @utpowderskir i completely agree. the majority of those who can't find jobs are those who either partied in high school and college and didn't take the time to do internships and job shadows or had under a 3.0 gpa. that or they pursued a stupid degree such as B.S. of Arts in Human Development. I see most business majors whine b/c the majority of college students are business majors so competition is stiff. not many go for the pre-med, pre-law, or like i chose electrical engineering.

  • @utpowderskir finally, money really isn't an issue. the majority of high school seniors never even apply for their FASFA not even to mention the thousands of bullshit scholarships out there, i.e. "be left-handed and get $500." thousands of those scholarships yearly go to waste b/c no one applies for them. no one ever wants to turn to the military, ROTC, or enlisting even though the military will pay 100% tuition and guarantee a job.

  • @poolie626 It doesn't guarantee a job. I spent 6 years in the military before they laid me off. Most people don't know that all 4 branches conduct regular lay-offs. Also, the chapter 33 G.I. bill is, right now, as much as 13 months behind on payments. I'm chapter 31, which you can't get anymore, so I get my money. Better, I hit this fantastic job market that was waiting for me. No one wants ex-military employees, don't kid yourself.

  • @ariuszarim I live in ND and the oil energy companies here hire the fuck out of ex military for 70 k a year jobs starting. Oh yeah, the jobs are everywhere. I work one of them.

  • @jimbobanalbeats Maybe they hire friends from the military, but they sure don't post jobs on the internet or have active recruiters. I know that someone who spent 30 years in can find a job with a contractor. There isn't any demand, not announced anyway, for us between-5-and-10-years-in folks. Also, there's this idea that you get job skills in the military, I can only speak for the AF, but they don't teach you sh*t. I spent six years mastering a system that has no civilian counterpart.

  • @ariuszarim Well ND has very low unemployment. Maybe you should consider relocating to a state with a better job market. Most of the country is rough for everyone. Not just military guys.

  • @jimbobanalbeats Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't ND cold beyond belief? I appreciate the advice, I'm sorta stuck right now, my contract with the military doesn't let me move until November this year. Bet you didn't know about that part, that you don't get to pick where you live until your enlistment contract is up, even if they aren't paying you. If you have kids, or relatives, don't let them join the military.

  • @ariuszarim It's cold for 5 months, usually just in spurts of days. It's not as bad as people make it out to be. Just throwin it out there for ya. Good luck.

  • @jimbobanalbeats I'll look into ND, thanks for the advice.

  • @ariuszarim Actually that not true. My mom works for the FDA and she said that when their a big promotion coming Vets and military servicemen are a lock in.

  • @utpowderskir

watch my video 'proof:college is worthless' then talk

  • I have a liberal arts degree and I wish I'd known then what I know, now. College is a complete waste of time I can care less what looks good to society. Society is not paying back my student loans. The funny thing is that I still have to apply at places I worked at before going to college.

  • I doubt she put much thought into this joke before she said it. Think about it...firstly, you both have the same jobs...so you can't really measure who the jackass is by the quality of job, if you both have the same job. 2ndly, they're in a job that they STUDIED for and probably wanted to get in to. She's studied theatre...something she wanted to get in to...and is in finance. It's pretty obvious who the jackass is!

  • "who's the loser now jackass?"

    you both are! LOL

college is for Athenian boy lovers, as it was put in 300

  • University and college degrees have about the same value as a high school diploma had 40 years ago. There are way too many people with degrees competing for a shrinking pool of jobs that require degrees.

  • Comment removed

  • here are some stats:

47% of those with a 4 year degree or higher do not have a job which requires a degree. From the class of 2004, only 57% of engineering graduates actually became engineers. That figure is likely much lower now, but I can't find those numbers.

Once upon a time a college degree was acutally worth something, that is no longer the case.

College is waste of time and money, the education bubble is growing and will soon bust.

  • @halocrate No, it's not worthless. It's just not a guarantee.

  • @halocrate. And what will happen when it does burst? Not that i'm doubting you, i just want more insight

  • I agree. I have a master's degree. And I switched universities because my first program had very greedy and very psychopathic professors. It's scary to think that those pompous idiots could hold tenured teaching positions. Another problems is their ability to extort money out of the idiot students in exchange for garbage information. The stupid students are very willing to jump through hoops though. It's their loss.

  • @dutytocareforothers Yeah its all designed to take your money, and teach u impractical shit ,that has nothing to do with your field or career..iam also a Christian and did not care to hear all about evolution..and how life came from nothing..all by chance

  • @5tonyvvvv Well you have the option of attending a Christian university. Why don't you do that? I'm not religious. It's ancient and bigoted nonsense. Do you think I want to be reminded that homosexuals and alcoholics are going to hell? Nope. I don't want to hear it.

  • Undergrad degrees are perhaps the biggest ripoff ever devised.

  • @bleekblock no, undergrad degrees are just like any type of training, if you're intelligent enough to train in something useful and valuable then its a good thing. if you do an undergrad degree in a worthless topic like politics or history then yes, they are pointless but they are not a rip-off because it is not the uni's fault that people are too stupid to study something useful

  • Ugh, women comedians are so terrible.

  • @Mastergallia ...Lisa Lampinelli cracks me up.

  • @Mastergallia

I know right! They sound just as bad as their male counterparts!

  • @Mastergallia No, most comics are terrible. Too many talent-less people with a crazy notion that they are going to be the next big thing. I performed and wrote comedy for six years. I'd say about 70% of comics were just terrible. People used to say, "Hey, not to many people make it in comedy." I'd say, "That's because most in comedy aren't funny."

  • Yuck. This girl is gross.

  • The finance dude is still working, she is a failed comic. Oooo got you.

  • All the money wasted on my accounting degree and can't get a job. :( You are much better off learning a skill then going to college in most cases.

  • @hexzerg I am getting a degree in accouting. Accounting is suppose to be one of the top five most demanded jobs! How hard have you looked for a job?

  • she has a point!

  • Yeah I have a degree in accounting that I haven't used. It's partly because I lost interest in accounting after I graduated, but also because business degrees are a dime a dozen. My degree is just glorified office skills. Now even temp agencies don't have a lot of work to offer. Don't go to college--spend your money on a new iPod or Blu Ray discs. Don't listen to Oprah. She is just a shill for Sallie Mae.

  • @waverly2468

Oh God! I can't stand Sallie Mae

  • @waverly2468 there both useless..college gives u stuff u never use,,its high school for adults..they never just teach u what u need for your field..

  • @waverly2468 That's sad. I have a degree in accounting and make 50K+. Sucka!

  • @waverly2468 I knew college was a scam just like high school was the minute I saw gym classes, home economic classic, and art classes. Give me a friggin break. 99% of the math they teach in high school is useless in the real world. 99% of anything in high school is useless. College is the same thing, just more of the same, except now a big piece of debt is attached to the student. Your better off starting a business right out of high school or investing the money somewhere else.

  • @waverly2468 Learh how to fix cars (real good) or how to cut hair; job guarantee

  • I went to truck driving school and called it good. now I'm saving money to get a truck.

  • I went to truck driving school. got my class A. Now I'm saving money to get me a semi or a box truck. maybe one day I'll decide to be a mechanic too.

  • Guess what?

There is no way you would get the same job as a finance major with a liberal arts degree at least in the field of finance! In this economy people with degrees and internships in finance have a hard time finding jobs.

  • @Rockynurse

Actually employers just require a bachelor's degree, they don't care if you have history, math or finances. A bachelor's degree doesn't get you a good paying job anymore. Look at the following video:

ABC 20/20 - College is a Rip Off

    /watch?v=V122ICNS8_0

  • @dontxspeed

Go tell that to the CPA firm I just interned with! Just try to get an internship or job with any other degree besides accounting. The best you could do with a BA in anything other than accounting would be a receptionist where I work.

Tell that to the financial planning firm I worked for a few years ago. Not only do you need a degree in finance but you need to meet certain requirements to become CFP certified.

Most secure require a certain coursework or major!

  • @Rockynurse nope your wrong ..i work with people that have both, all day long..its bullshit..and most of college is useless classes..so moron teachers can make money..

  • Comment removed

  • @Rockynurse she did some under the desk work for the boss if you know what i mean lol

  • @Rockynurse .Bullshit useless impractical bullshit classes ..they dont prepare for the working world..it is a crock of shit!!!..and theres no jobs anyway..u learn nothing like high school..its a fuckin money makin lie..and they fail u over bullshit..meticulous critical teachers that are assholes..your gunna need a Ph D to work in Burger King soon

  • @Rockynurse I knew college was a scam just like high school was the minute I saw gym classes, home economic classic, and art classes. Give me a friggin break. 99% of the math they teach in high school is useless in the real world. 99% of anything in high school is useless. College is the same thing, just more of the same, except now a big piece of debt is attached to the student. Your better off starting a business right out of high school or investing the money somewhere else.

  • @Rockynurse I agree I think it use to be the case that you can graduate with any degree be it Theater or Finance and you can get a job doing just about anything you set your mind to. For example, If you want to work in a bank as a Loan officer. You use to be able to get that job with any major. In fact a degree never was a requirment back in the day but the job desription now says Business, Finance, economics or related degree prefered. That means most likely they will hire someone with that.

  • @Rockynurse maybe the company needed a certain percentage of women.

  • @Rockynurse Really? I'm pursuing an English degree from a top 20 school and I've gotten internships in finance. A finance major as an undergraduate is a joke, anyways. Most of the top 20 schools don't even offer the major to undergraduates.
