Actually, he sounds exactly the same as on the record. I'm not saying he's a good singer - he's not, really, even though I like his voice - but his voice is equally bad on the album, if you will.

Also, they are incredible live. Maybe they're not good live on Youtube, but they're awesome in person.

I'd argue that he is - the vocal control exhibited on So Come Back, I Am Waiting is pretty astounding.

I think their sound just lends to more of a vocal style that most people wouldn't immediate attribute technical efficiency to.

And! agreed about that last remark, caught them in Madison last year (when The Walkmen opened) and they absolutely blew me away. Still the best show I've seen.
