Hmmm, yeah. I don't care for your blind faith in the democratic system. Why do I need to get over 50% of the people to "approve" of my marriage before I can get married! Democracy can be just as tyrannical.
Hmmm? Democratically run? That maybe one thing. But I must submit to a democratically run state whether I want to or not. Whereas at my workplace, I do not. For example, if the democratic government votes to forbid me from marrying a man (like it has), I must obey. If my work place tries such a thing, I can just quit.
"Democratic" does not always mean "good". Remember that Socrates was murdered democratically for his beliefs.
@BanditoWalrusGames If you don't like your democratically run state, you can always immigrate to another country that suits you better, there may be hardships involved but there are hardships involved with quitting your job too. Democracy isn't a complete failure but when only 40% vote it is more likely to have failings and when you allow unlimited donations to politicians it has even more than that. In Canada about 60% vote and it makes a big difference, you could marry a man in Canada.
the problem is that no, not any Joe can get elected because he will be outrunned by lobby-financed campaigns, and we are talking about millions of dollars, isn't that right?

Respond to this video... You are speaking Leninism....which never works because Poor People are poor for a reason, They produce less by nature. @iatemine You've made some assumptions here though, 1. that the poor get welfare. I'm poor, and don't accept any sort of welfare, unless you count the rides I get from my buddy at work since my car broke down and I can't afford to buy another used pos. @iatemine My boss is the boss because he's been at his job for the last 20 years doing what I'm doing. I'm not ok with that. Nowhere in nature is that true! 99% of People that have any wealth at all worked Their asses off and were smart with what They earned. No one is "owed" life and "owed" anything! That is the lie of Socialism! I suggest You re-read the definition of "Imperialism" which is a term Leninists toss around to whip up the poor. It is false.
@ThePunkPatriot What "is" Your point? What is Your ultimate goal in all this? After You and Your fellow Marxists tear down the system and send the rest of the jobs overseas to Countries Who still have slave Labor....how do You plan to create a decent life for Your kids? Who is going to pay for it, and where will the money come from?
@iatemine Your right to work comment reminds me of Hobbes: Leviathan is sovereign where it reigns (i.e. what it wants, it can do) & if you don´t like it's reign: choose another Leviathan or the state of nature where life is "solitary, poor, nasty, brutish, and short". Now I think that when the choices offered to you are: tyranny, chaos or tyranny elsewhere you would say "I don´t accept the range of choices", right? (PS when you accuse another of carelessly using words, don't do the same thing.)
@TheRacistsMustDie Interesting. So, I ask You the same as I asked another. Since Your kind feel the Free Market is not the way to go and the People who take the risks should not gain reward for Their efforts...what kind of "realistic" system would You like instead (that would not go bankrupt) ??
@iatemine An interesting question. I think that not markets but capitalism is to be opposed. Capitalism is roughly 500 years old, but before that there already were markets, as well as money & private property. The problem is that because the capitalist ideal type is that all should private property & markets, reality leans towards commodification & privatization. The result is that the market is where it should not be & that which should not be a product is so anyway. Now I won’t use an "ism"
@TheRacistsMustDie 500 Years ago there was Fuedelism and only 2 classes, the peasant class which were dirt poor and paid taxes out the wazoo to both the Church and the Feudal Lord of the area and the Churchmen/monarchies. There was no middle class. There was no care for the poor. There was nothing but an absolute miserable existence for anyone not of the ruling Class! Capitalism "created" the middle class! In this Country, the middle Class pays most of the Taxes.
@TheRacistsMustDie 500 Years ago there was Fuedelism and only 2 classes, the peasant class which were dirt poor and paid taxes out the wazoo to both the Church and the Feudal Lord of the area and the Churchmen/monarchies. @iatemine for my prescription because I don't want the " 'this ism means this' 'no it means that' " debate. I think that not the public (state) or the private but instead the communal should have dominance in the economy. This would mean that the economy would not be organized like an oligarchy but as a direct democracy or a democratic republic. I could write even more to work out the details, but no doubt you already have enough remarks by now. (PS why do you use capital letters so much?)
@TheRacistsMustDie public is not the "State". Public is the free market. State is Government which relys on the Public to pay for It's existence. Communal means extreme local with no monetary system. Everyone works for free to contribute to the whole. The Hippies tried that back in the 60's and didn't even last a year. They found out how hard it was to till the soil and slaughter Animals and make clothing. I guarantee you that "communal" means "poor" and extremely "limited" in any culture.
@iatemine Yes before capitalism there was feudalism, which was quite nasty but the point I tried to make was: markets, money & private property aren't going to go away, but we can do it in a non-capitalist way. Also during feudalism the middle class was born & only later feudalism made place capitalism partly/mainly because of the birth & rise of the middle class. Also good point that the market is public (as in 'open to everyone') & the state may be indeed be not public, but communal,
@iatemine republican, where sovereignty rests with the citizen body or their representatives. That is because it is like a club as M. Walzer said "for it is a feature of clubs in domestic society (...) that they can regulate admissions but cannot bar withdrawals" (Walzer: Spheres of Justice). & by communal I of course don't mean the hippie experiment but "belonging to a community of sovereign & equal participants", more concretely something like this: /watch?v=UE9QpHFGIlg
@iatemine I correct myself: communal "belonging to a community" & in the case of state & economy consisting of sovereign & equal participants (the family also being communal should of course not be so, otherwise children would be equal to parents)
why would you think so? it continues on indefinitely in many 3rd world countries. the population suffers, but those who rule maintain their rule... the u.s. could be heading for the exact same scenario...
the majority of the population is doomed, but the rich could continue on indefinitely, as they often do in the 3rd world. when you own a country you can exploit, control and torment a large population for a very long period of time. revolutions are far & few in between, & sadly are typically unsuccessful in terms of really gaining, for the population, the economic & political control & civil rights, etc. that they wish for... this is u.s. going 3rd world by design, 4 the rich.
not to the extent you're suggesting, they just need to exploit to the greatest degree possible. look around the world a little & you''ll see what's up.
while you're at it, take a little look through history. the wealthy classes don't need a huge consumer base to maintain their sumptuous lifestyles. they simply need an enslaved population to do their work, and a militia to ensure their control over land, resources, and the activities of the population...
@justonefirefly1 That is because You know nothing of Capitalism. ANy failures We have endured has been because of Government involvement and manipulation of the system. You really think America became the wealthiest Country because of the "failures" of Capitalism? REALLY? That's sad Man...
the u.s. has been a place of wealth for some because of land they've stolen from the tribes, labor performed for free by slaves, the use of the military to control foreign governments so that u.s. commercial interests could have cheap access to their resources & labor, etc. if you think the wealthy interests (& even middle class interests) in the u.s. got rich via any method other than violence you are living in the dream world you've been indoctrinated into believing in.
@lamaddussa load of crap. Every nation has been taken away from a weaker less technological Peoples at some point in Their history. It has been that way for the last 40K years. Stay within the last 200 years please and stop being weak.
Google McCormack–Dickstein Committee. It is a congressional investigation into allegations made by Gen. Smedley Butler U.S.M.C. that in the 1930's he was approached by a man representing a group of corporations including Dupont, Morgan, Firestone, and GMC, with a proposal to overthrow the U.S. govt, and install a fascist dictatorship. This was the coporations' reaction to the "New Deal". It shows that what this video says is far more than just theory.
- people don't choose to starve until they are so hopeless or desperate that they are willing to relinquish their lives, so, people won't just cavalierly starve themselves en masse in order to bring the system to a halt.
- the power structure is incredibly well armed. how can a population stand up against the vast weapons systems, militias, police forces (i.e. local militias) and prison systems that are in place to keep the system in the control of the capitalists...
It took us over 2000 years of philosophy to create and implement sofisticated democratic States (and a sadly flawed one at that). How long will it take us to establish and implement fair corporate or industrial system where the workers not only have a say, but control, to some extent, their means of production?
So, when people ask me, (a Canadian) what i think about Americans.... I will answer "The lack of active participation in their democratic process has created the worlds greatest purveyor of violence in the world... so i do declare that %60 of Americans are ignorant."
@shaqthatwontbitebac Humm lack of participation in the democratic participation? Well last I checked our American tradition has been violence from the get go. Even with massive electoral participation. Perhaps when someone asks me about Canadians I can respond w/ "people who don't know a foreigner's history ergo are the world's biggest ignoramus." Cheers.
Although I agree w/ your ideas and points, I don't think most Americans are at that mindset to challenge the establishment. Hell, look at the recent hurricane Irene. The masses believed every little thing the media whores and the politicians were saying to the lead up. And then when the tropical depression passed over my area, it was nothing. If anything, this recent hurricane shows that most Americans are Nazi positive.
I (an American) would have to concede your point. I'm considering running for mayor of my city (Detroit). But just trying to convince the constituency that the mix of church and gov't only leads to the corruption of both seems to make me unelectable.
@vcdaniels I wish you luck, Detroit was once a great city. with massive infrastructure manipulation the city could once again become one of the greatest manufacturing cities in the United States..... Again, wishing you luck.

the u.s. has been a place of wealth for some because of land they've stolen from the tribes, labor performed for free by slaves, the use of the military to control foreign governments so that u.s. commercial interests could have cheap access to their resources & labor, etc. if you think the wealthy interests (& even middle class interests) in the u.s. got rich via any method other than violence you are living in the dream world you've been indoctrinated into believing in.

It shows that what this video says is far more than just theory.

good points. some issues:

I will answer "The lack of active participation in their democratic process has created the worlds greatest purveyor of violence in the world... so i do declare that %60 of Americans are ignorant."
shaqthatwontbitebac 6 months ago
@shaqthatwontbitebac I think that would be accurate
ThePunkPatriot 6 months ago 2

@shaqthatwontbitebac
I (an American) would have to concede your point. I'm considering running for mayor of my city (Detroit). But just trying to convince the constituency that the mix of church and gov't only leads to the corruption of both seems to make me unelectable.
vcdaniels 6 months ago 2
@vcdaniels I wish you luck, Detroit was once a great city. with massive infrastructure manipulation the city could once again become one of the greatest manufacturing cities in the United States..... Again, wishing you luck.
