I used this vid to learn. I found it easier to trust leaning on slow turns at first, cuz there are reduced consequences for errors. KZ1000P full dress
I don't trust my tires. Cuz they're not sport, just a freaking touring stock goddamned tires, which skid when you lean your bike too low. And that's why, I'm sitting here with my toe broken, and my bike standing outside f''cked up.
So my advice for novices. If you want to learn how to lean a bike really low - buy appropriate tires! .. and of course watch and read how to perform it right
Really important to practice that. Just in case you take a curve too fast or come upon an obstacle you need to be compfortable to lean your bike as hard as possible. There's no better lifesaver than skill!!
Hey crash i have a question for you, ive been riding dirt all my life, but recently made the switch to street. Im on an older cbr 600, nothing flashy. I love the corners, im adicted to them and the g's. One thing i found is if i lean half of my body off the side of the bike to the point where ony half of my bum is on the seat and my knee is down, i FEEEL as if im alot more stable and can take the corners at those speeds, is this over kill?
Well, to be honest, if you're carrying that kind of speed on the street? You probably need to get to the track. No oncoming traffic, diesel spills, sand, anti-freeze, sail frogs or other traction thieving crap.
@CaptCrashIdaho Not criticizing your vid, btw, just wanted to mention it because alot of people get confused by what actually causes the turn. If there was only one wheel it would turn due to lean, like a rolling penny. But two (fixed) wheels wont let that happen. The front wheel needs to "steer".
It might make little difference to some, but for others, like me, i find it easier when i uderstand the physics.
im right handed, my bro in law is right handed. the odd thing i noticed is that the both of us lean farther when leaning left. do left hand dominant people lean more to the right? just an observation. anyone else notice this?
on Prez Day I met some people and went on a 6 hour ride through some country roads here in TX. i misjudged a turn had lean angle all wrong and was doing about 60 mph's into the turn. i was on unfamiliar roads so i wasnt going too fast. i ended up shooting off the road into the wet grass. it had been raining for quite some time the week before. but i held on kept her up.
Small (or large) strip of unused tire at edge of the tire's face. Some bikes will lean far enough over that teh entire face of the tire touches the pavement, some won't! It's a measure of how far you're leaning your bike--not a measure of ability.
@CaptCrashIdaho iv got a 125cc supermoto and iv got the chicken line down to under a cm only been leaning for about 3weeks need a new front tire tho coz its low on tred when iv changed it how long do u think it will take to run it in before i lean it ???
It's good to be frightened sometimes...BUT it's better to be informed: Search SUPERMOTO and you'll see it's a wonderful technique for making sure your foot don't get spat out whlie you lean lean lean.
Left turns are wider than right turns on roads/in countries where you drive on the right, hence, more wear on the left side than the right. Would'v made a good excuse for the chicken strips. :D
Depends on your speed. If you mean you're turning left and shifting off to the right at SLOW speeds, you're counterwieghting the bike and that's OK.
IF you're doing the same at speed, then you're forcing the bike down into a greater lean than you might need. At speed, lean with the bike or shift off to the inside to straighten the bike and reduce lean angle if you need to.
I noticed as i got better with my cornering, my chicken strips got bigger. I tend to worry more about how i'm handling the bike opposed to how much rubber im not using on the tyre.
Tnx it sure was helpful but I still a little scared

"bikes gotta lean" Isn't completely true. You need to push your handle bar to turn, leaning is push steering's consequence.

With counter balancing, cant you not get as tight of turns, like those who do moto gp/dragging knee? Jwing is all
