How come they don´t light the afterburner until they left the deck?

because there's no use

the catapult does all the work while on the deck. You need full power only to continue accelerating when you've taken off.

Rafale is bombing in Afghanistan...But I really would like to know which one is the best. I saw both planes flying and it's difficult to admit because i'm french, but EF seems more fast and agile...

Sorry, my fault. Three were deployed in March 2007 to Dushanbe in Tadjikistan. These three are the only ones to date that flew combat missions as far as I know. Btw, all three flew their missions successfully.

the rafale is french spin off of the ef since they withdrew from the ef project. I have heard that both the rafale and ef have both got teething problems but over all the ef is the best of the 2 due 2 it agility speed and versitly for all combat missions.

@dannyatom Dude, u r wrong. In 2008 and 2009 in UAE, the Rafale crushed the Typhoon: 8/1 in 2008, 7/1 in 2009. Since this date, the Typhoon countries never want to do an excercice combat with thr Rafael.

The Rafale was designed as a multirole jet from the start, the eurofighter was designed as an air/air fighter and the other duties were added later on. The only real contender is the JSF I think. The rafale just needs a stronger engine and Radar.

well, so superior that the EF was rated inferior to all bids against Rafale, and it crashed 2 times even before operational duties, and the worst, it took 20% overweight in 5 years, this not sound good for a cold war relic!

there is none yet but they are planning to make a carrier version somewhere around 2011
