Dr. Brinkley has submitted a letter in support of Levees.org's nomination of two major levee beach sites in New Orleans to the National Register of Historic Places.
Dr. Brinkley is a good man who understands how terrible accidents in history can be made by man, even when those men thought they were doing what's best for 'progress.'
Rep Young says "I've been fighting this battle for 39 years...this country is starving itself because we're buying foreign oil."
Of course he doesn't mention that for most of that 39 years that he was "fighting" to drill, the U.S. lost interest in gas mileage. The only thing that mattered was size and horsepower. The U.S. went into high gear wasting oil. Had efficiency remained a priority, we wouldn't have sent so much money overseas or fell behind in auto tech.
Instead of raping our National Wildlife Reserves for 1 year's worth of oil he should promote Alaska's R&D, old fashioned ingenuity. I hope Alaska can elect someone more creative.
If I had to judge by the comments, I think most people feel the congressman behaved more appropriately. Being called to a congressional hearing isn't a casual conversation, especially if the congressman you are talking to is serious about an issue. The congressman doesn't work in the private sector, but neither do professors, really. Today's universities couldn't survive without public funds.
@guyjohn59 When is it "appropriate" to walk out of the room while an expert on any given issue is speaking, come back after he's finished, never listening to a single word he's said, then dismiss it offhand as "garbage," not even bothering to get his name right? This is not how an individual acts who is qualified for any position of power. This is not how an elected official who cares about his job acts.
That politician is such a whinny individual. No wonder Congress's approval is 9%. They're working for the oil companies, not for the public. They see them self as a political body to benefit the wealthy, not the majority of the public.
We do pay the senators salary. They are elected officials and should give the upmost respect to the civilians who elect them.. we are there boss!!! Dr. Brinkley is Don's boss PERIOD!! This is what's wrong with america.. People who have and are given power abuse it... that's what Don is doing, he is abusing his power. Our government is corrupt.... not that that is new news.. cause we all know it's true.. our government will be the catalyst to our demise.
listen at 58 seconds. " To interrupt breaks the comedy of what we are trying" Yes what the committee is doing is a joke and Mr. Hastings made a BIG Freudian slip. Wake up USA.
I DO think we should drill, but I have to give this guy credit for standing up to the Congressman. Nobody should be bullied from giving their opinions when asked to testify on something. People are free to debate their thoughts, but an elected official needs to THINK twice about attacking someone right now especially with all the govt corruption going on. Govt workers are CIVIL SERVANTS NOT KINGS AND QUEENS
@CFURIN Excellent post.... I don't know if we should drill or not... I don't have the knoledge to make that decision... But I would be hesitant to mess with the arctic... The arctic is a delicate refuge that we know little of.
Rep. Don Young, R-Alaska, is one of the most corrupt members of the United States House of Representatives and, is a disgrace to America. Doc Hastings is a jerk as well.
