ok look there are always differences according to the teachers, for I have seen some different steps in the style ying jow pai eagle claw. I practice this style and quen li gung truth is different in many steps as I have but that does not rule out the difference, as all steps have their reason for use. Remember, not all teachers teach% Chinese techniques as they are, they are very reserved. att: ying jow pai eagle claw
Oh my Balls!! You've been doing kung fu since you're five and.....You know nothing about it yet!!! keep on training grasshopper! You still have too much to learn!
Eu me lembro desses movimentos, é o Primeiro CATI do Lien Bu Shaolin Chuan(Kuan), ele fez certinho...
This is very close to the form I learned with a few variations . Not bad form . Just need to work on the body mechanics and drop into the movements when you hit the forearms . Needs more waste movements . But then again I did white crane which has a whipping action to it .
I don't mean any verbal harm, but reading the comments: Lian bu is one of those forms, like tan tui, that changes with you a little bit. Everyone teaches it differently because everyones experiences with kung fu and exposure is different.
I might like to play... I don't know some famous folk song on my guitar in the key of D. Someone else plays it in G. It's the same song, and has similar effects.
Clearly your system is different than the one I studied. I'm not sure why this vexes you. I can't speak to the authenticity of other systems. I studied in the Peter Kwok system. Grandmaster Kwok is a well-respected member of the martial arts community. This is his version of Lien-Bu (more or less). I find the assertions that it is "wrong" because it is different than what you are accustomed to off-base. With whom did you study?
If I remember correctly, Lien Bu is usually taught after 20 methods in our curriculum. So in the "Peter Kwok system" this would not necessarily be the first form.
My execution is far from perfect, but this is the way I learned it. There are several slightly (and sometimes not so slightly) different versions of this form on YouTube, so I would not be surprised if you learned it differently.
Your Lien bu chen looks quite different from the one I learnt, the basics are the same but thats about it. It just goes to show how diverse kung fu really is
Unfortunately, no. Studied for about 5 years from the ages of 8-13 (20 years ago!) and got up to intermediate level (I learned though the broadsword form in the curriculum).
Every now and then I think about going back, but I live a little too far away from the school now. Sifu Al was great.
Funny thing is that I practice more now than I did when I was taking lessons. Maybe one day I'll finish what I started...or at least record a more current video.
now that you know all moves in your form, try to make it smooth. You're human, not a robot so... lian bu is a basic form, you have to do it well! keep working!
Thanks for posting this. YouTube demos are fantastic ways to get exposed to variations. What northern Shaolin style is thi? It doesn't look quite like the long fist form to me either.
I studied at the New Jersey Kung Fu Academy (now Al Bender's Kung Fu Academy) in Bloomfield, NJ back in 80s. This video is very old and I didn't practice much back then, so please don't judge the quality of the teaching by my performance.
Alex, Great to see you were practicing in 1989. How is Brian and the family? I would enjoy hearing from you. I still have pictures of you and Brian in my Academy scrapbook. Where are you living now? Married? Children?
is it long fist? i used to learn the first long fist form called lien bu chuen but that was quite different. i see similarities, but the rest is still strange... which school is that?
We always just referred to it as Northern Shaolin, but I suppose it would be considered long fist. I've seen lots of variations on the forms we learned, especially this one (which if I remember correctly, was developed by several different masters for the Chinese Army in WWII).
