check how ozzy poetically fits the lyrics in between the base , lead and drums, although generous use of keyboards was particularly seen in this album something i dont know WHY?
Cd sound is recorded at 16 bit 44.1khz per second.that is to slow to capture all the highs and lows of a recording.vinyl is the best.I bet the new blue Ray audio would give vinyl a run for it's money though.
5:19 chills to my spine evry fuking time the most powerfull chrod i have heard in my life that its what hapnes when you put soul in music ist so powerful that a single chord becomes legendary that is power
I know some will laugh for me saying this, but with Sabbath, musically that is, I can actually sing the guitar parts ! Mentally that is. You feel the music and Iommi is riffmaster extridinare. Ward actually said he follows Iommi instead if Butler.Just something magic about this band. The sum of all parts are Sabbath: Iommi, Ward, Butler and Osbourne ! GODS of Metal!
There is no damn way to accurately get all words right on thes albums--but they are great! The cool part is you hear the lyrics as you want to hear them!
I remember the first time I heard this song 12 years ago i was like "yea, its a pretty good Sabbath song" and then 5:19 hit me as The Straightener starts. No sound had ever struck a chord in my soul like that and no sound has ever since...
Hard for me to rank sabbath songs and albums while Ozzy was in the band. All are off the hook and just plain smoke. There is no other riffmaster like Iommi, and Ozzy was in his prime to boot. The thunder from the rhythm and the sound made you, the listener, lose control of the vertical and the horizontal. They set the stage for later metal acts, especially with the hint of orchestration, evident on this album and all through their career. Straightened out they are the yard stick of metal.
Sabbath and Zeppelin were tailor made for listening to while completely stoned. In the '70's, I was always waiting for the next Sabbath or Zeppelin album to hit the stores. And when they did, I always ended up at some friends house with an awesome stereo and the bowls were being packed and passed around and before I knew it Tony Iommi or jimmy Page was taking me for a ride.
@Claymore2408 I can agree to that. I don't want to come off as pro drug n shit but I don't think people realize how big the pot culture was into Sabbath and Zeppelin during the 70's unless they were part of it. I had a Zeppelin T shirt, it seemed everytime I wore it someone was asking me if I had weed or if I wanted to get stoned with them. The Dead had the acid people. The Allman Brothers had the mushroom people. The crowd I was with believed the proper way to listen to Sabbath was STONED.
@meinefresse94 no they are right on bro-- i cant play this anymore because it was the last tune my band rehearsed before packing up and goin to party. My drummer and I were the last to say g'night-at 5 am-- and our last words were, "ok bro-- i will pick you up tomorrow afternoonHAAA!! today i mean!!" he goes "Cool dude be safe drivin". i got a call at 7 am from his sister- he was dead on the couch of an OD.Great great tune and we had it nailed-- note for note(but i played my own lead-Iommi style
@meinefresse94 Young and foolish, livin hard and fast--it was 1986.Miss ya Mike!! See you soon, introduce me to SRV and Dime andBonzo-- and all the others that went way too young.
Vol. 4 was my first Sabbath album. I purchased it when I was seven (thanks Dad). And throughout the years, the music, and the lyrics stuck with me. At seven, I was a little too young to understand the meaning behind the lyrics but man what an eye opener to the realities of life. I believe Geezer wrote these lyrics and what a genius!! "Every day just comes and goes. Life is one big overdose. People try to rule the world but I can't see throught their frustration" (Different song but same album)
I wish I knew what you knew back then - first album was Van Halen among others on 8 track tape! back in around 1977-78. I know now how much I appreciate BS music through the years.
imo the best intro to any song ever, the emotion in Iommi's guitar is incredible.
Also, I'll never understand how many people say that Ozzy can't sing. He is not only the best Black Sabbath singer, he's the best singer of all time. Just listen.
This was the first album that they started to tune down! 1 and half steps. So the low E string was in C.that's why the album is so heavy.the cool thing about C tuning is that's it's alot easier to bend and that it sounds real heavy...Dimebag used to tune to C also.
perhaps the greatest sabbath song ever. this song makes me actually FEEL the 70's... the smell of fresh paving, a warm breeze, the shimmer of heat across the road, rolling along in a Ford LTD the size of a boat, 8 track tapes...
@meinefresse94 Oh yes, Supernaut is just superb. Jesus, those guys were amazingly talented, though they were on dope all the time, they could create such fantastic music.
I have lived by this song for countless years thanks for posting it the straightner!this whole album I live by,I used to have every album sabbath recorded(real sabbath)lost em along with over 300 other albums in a trailer fire,
Older vinyl sounds better because the music was recorded for it. It's recorded at a slower pace so, the vinyl picks up more sound. If you buy a new record from most new bands you can not even tell a difference between cd and vinyl.

Well im not completely sure but here goes vinyl has all the musical bars and CDs they take the bars and take samples or bits of music every like 3 microsecond or something and thats why vinyl sounds better i think..
@hendrix950 I don't know what the reason is, whether it's because vinyl was recorded on analog equipment and cds on digital, but whatever the reason, you can tell the difference when you listen to same album on vinyl and cd, and for me it's a hell of a difference.
@M60Head the reason that vinyl and cds sound different is two reasons. the first is due to the medium itself. because vinyl reproduces sound with physical movement, it does not and cannot reproduce sound in the same way that cds can, hence the difference in sound. the second reason is because of the transition to digital. anytime a recording is transfered from one format to another, there is some quality loss. this combined with the unfamiliarity and awkwardness with mixing and converting to the
@M60Head new cd format caused the steriotypical 'bad' digital sound. this problem only occured when initially vinyl albums were brought to cd in digital's early stages. the loudness war issue on cds only doesnt exist on vinyl because record makers know that thats the largest complinat vinyl users have about cd, otherwise the vinyl would be loud too
@TattooedHoodlum ME TOO Friggin Geezer slammin --hair all over!! my favorite pic. inside(the name is a phone book -shut eyes and put down finger!!!!) my bad . feel like a jerk- but there is a reason. 4 was pretty much my fav . Sabbath- but they had NO songs(w/Ozzy) that i did not like-- Sabatoge was just -- lol depends on your mood.and if you play an instrument-its like ,BOOm without thinking ,you are playin Sab. Bloody Sab.!!!! good man! \>..</ !!!!
Everybody ALWAYS gets Sabbath lyrics wrong, ever notice that? There's not one relaible source for them anywhere, I've looked. Thank you for posting this great song.
@Octobersun77 I have this little book inside my Vol. 4 CD cover. the lyrics are in there, and I wrote them as they are written in the book. so I guess they are right.
Absurdly good!

You've got a few words wrong here - should be "Eyes full of ended Illusions" and "Valleys full of tears" (not trees)
