yup-I agree with you, Lauren, i think they are sorta exaggerating it to scare ppl- the normal flu is more deadly anyway ( it just didnt come as suddenly) i agree with her....
uh, seriously, i dont think i would listen to somebody who can not grammatically make ONE sentence, speaking of school you should stay after and get help.
My comment was made in June last year quite a long time after WHO had declared swine flu a pandemic. Whilst I agree newspapers hype everything up, it was still a pandemic. The importance of swine flu was that it threatened to swamp health services and disrupt food supplies, not that most people would die from it. cowluvr102 was reacting to just one newspaper article in a melodramatic manner instead of taking a much more balanced view that scientific articles gave.
i think that her whole intent of this message was to show people that in alaska there are more then one person that lives here, there are many many thousands of us, also she made a point about how screwy the media can make it. One case of swne flu in alaska isnt that big of a deal. I dont think people freaked out when there was a first case of the outbreak.
Actually, you're not quite right - It has the potential to be as virulent as Spanish Flu was back in 1918. The Media are hyping it so much because the typical response is a cynical "it's not that bad" (because we're sick of the media hyping all illnesses). But yeah, no need to panic - just wash your hands regularly and thoroughly, and see a doctor if you get flu symptoms.
Alaska has approximately 686,293 people. that's not very much considering the amount of open land there. Here in AZ. there are over 6 million people and the swine flu was a major subject on the news. A person not far from me actually died from it.
Over a year later, and I'm pretty sure most of us are still alive.
But you never know. Be careful if you smell bacon; the pigs could come back at any time.

over 250000+ die of seasonal flu each year
13000k+ in the US alone since january
when the swine flu was tested by the CDCP
it was found weaker than the seasonal flu
i applaud you being a mature and level headed person about it
good for you

53 people across the world have been confirmed to have died from this "outbreak".
A good estimate for how many people died of the Spanish Flu in 1918 is 50,000,000.
That means 943,396 times as people died in 1918 as have died thus far, yet they have the same pandemic level.
AWESOME JOB HUMANITY.
