  • This song is about Jerry Hall dumping him for Mick Jagger in 1977.

  • 4 dislikes? Perhaps they messed up by getting up, and dancing to the song and knocking over something onto the dislike button? :(

  • I love to hear this song when I'm feeling a little bit blue. It makes me feel a lot better.. :-)

  • I actually can't stop listening to this song, i'm 12, is it strange that i absolutely love Roxy Music? :) x

  • @OMFGItsKKC - Not strange at all - welcome aboard

  • Bryan Ferry, one of the great singers from the late seventies and on thru the 80's, 90's, etc,

keeps on going and sounds just as good.

  • Love his beautiful melancholy melodic vocals... :)

  • great song

  • Wow. Now I know where Brooklyn-based band Kisses got inspiration from . . .

  • I listened to this when my first wife left more than 30 years ago. Now it reminds me of the false intimacy you can come to feel through contacts on youtube. Apparently this was written when Jerry Hall left Brian for Mick Jagger. I guess if your woman leaves you for Mick Jagger you sort of think, "Well, ... who wouldn't?"

  • @6664818GGG She may have lived to regret it Jagger would be a bitter little pill for a lot of women playing for keeps.

  • @nostaligicangel Apparently Bryan's wife was playing around more recently and he left her taking with him, nonetheless, the social prestige her aristocratic birth brought into his life. I love the music these people produced but can't really worry about broken-hearted millionaires [how much did Jerry Hall walk away with?}

  • Grew up listening to Roxy Music, Bryan Ferry still rocks after all these years. Heart heart you Mr. Bryan Ferry.

  • Why wasn't this included on The Thrill Of It All DVD?!?

  • Bryan Ferry sang a few of the most perfect bittersweet love songs - this being one of them. Am I correct that he wrote this as well?

  • So beautiful, it feels my heart with joy :)

  • "Rarely seen"

  • Ahhh..the memories. Reminds me of a very hard breakup, although when your a teen they're all bad. So when everything's going wrong i'd just throw on some Roxy Music and everything seemed right again.

  • walks off like sinatra at the end...

  • Fantastic!

  • Absolutley love this 1! Used to love it when my mum watched it on top of the pops 2 lol xox

  • I'm going to see him for the second time this friday :) And I can go backstage, anyone wants me to give him a message? :D

  • brandon flower

  • Sucha great song!!!

  • It is incredible how ferry changed in looks in just a few years. Like from an ugly duckling to a swan.

  • Absolutely fantastic!

  • This man is so cool ,what a talent and still singing now i just love the lyrics to this song one of my fav songs.

  • the sexiest man ever! that goes for all his songs!

  • the sexiest man ever!

  • Brian Ferry is my favorite singer to copy when I am under the shower ;-) ! And I do still have the idea (or illusion) that my voice is not that different from his... Brian and Roxy Music for ever!!!!

  • ♥ .

  • 5 people can't dance :P

  • Roxy Music is the first group I was ever into at six and seven thanks to sneaking my oldest sister's record onto the console turntable in the living room. Loved them then and I still love them at nearly 36.

  • love love LOVE RM and mr ferry. what a voice! :)

  • ramane intotdeauna in inima mea

  • absolutely amazing segway into the '80's. love roxy music.

  • Mr. Ferry I presume..

  • I love Bryan Ferry, and Roxy Music.

  • i used to play this song over n over n over .... one of RM's best!

  • i WAS BROUGHT UP WITH ROXY MUSIC AND IT HAS NEVER LEFT ME 33 YEARS LATER! THIS BAND WAS PURE CLASS!

  • @SNOWYTHEBISHON - it's been 33 years for me too. It was Dance Away that caught my attention then my elder sister showed me her record collection with HARD RAINS, LOVE IS THE DRUG and ALL I WANT IS YOU and suddenly I was hooked forever.

  • @SNOWYTHEBISHON Me too, was a fave in my mum's collection - actually she was into Bryan Ferry as a solo artist so I started there and I grew into Roxy Music. Bryan's voice is smooth as warm syrup and just oozes class.....I feel too old to be a groupie but I can't help it.

  • @SNOWYTHEBISHON i got you by 10 years and i still love roxy music and bryan ferry. they both still have class and energy

  • @SNOWYTHEBISHON If only todays music could be half as good as this stuff, I might actually turn on the radio from time to time. Unfortunately no such - my ears bleed when I hear the likes of lady gaga / justin bieber absolutely murder what I know as music.

  • another I really love and i used this song for real life when i had a big break up with someone i really loved and this son helped it had all the emotion i needed thank you roxy music xxx

  • haven't heard this in so long... Bryan Ferry's voice just melts me....

  • Terry Gibbs looks like such a baby here

  • i love it this video

  • The epitome of super cool and suave. He would have made an interesting James Bond.

  • I'm 27 also and have to listen to music like this because of the crap they try to throw down our ears now. Why can music be like this anymore!!!!!!!!!!!???????????

  • I love this song and love is the drug..wish they had music like these in our days.Im only 26 and have to listen to all the old songs cause the new songs are shit house

  • come on now baby, let´s give our love a try.

  • Poor gary tibbs, he was such a pretty boy, he's chubby and bald now...

  • @TheGodParticle Haha, I guess we've all put on a bit of weight since those days, those of us that were there! I bet he's still an excellent bass player though... :o)

  • Me like song.

    Uggghhhhh.

  • Yes I wish they still made good music like this. Brian Ferry is always there with new songs done in his unique very stylish way.

  • When music had a greater influence then image.

    Greatest era ever of music.

  • Damn this ol' boy rocks. BEST 80's band.

  • wish the recorded audio were louder.

  • Existence as we know it has two components

    1. The universe

    2. Brian Ferry

  • @mimesis6mime and Jim Carrey

  • Until that night......Great song. Lonliness, it's a crowded room. Brilliant! Brian the Best!

  • ahh this makes me smile :)

  • Heard this song at Nordstrom's in Woodfiled, my 5 year old daughter brought my attention to it. Great post!

  • "Loneliness is a crowded room...........all together all alone"

  • Another lovely Roxy Music song!

  • Su-fucking-perb

  • Released Single Album UK chart#

April 1979 "Dance Away" Manifesto 2

  • # 2 on what chart?

  • @CJARCHIVES Uk billboard, I believe - Dance Away was a number 2 hit.

  • great tune!!!! the bass player here was GARY TIBBS who left just after this to join ADAM AND THE ANTS????? strange change of direction eh?

  • @uglybus7 And then later he was in the Fixx!

  • Celebrating our 29th anniversary, we had to drag up some old songs and by GOD this was one of them. Memories.... Bryan's amazing.... never ever will there be another Roxy Music.

  • Brilliant song.

  • Come on England win the world cup for me

  • I got dumped to this record too. Curse you, Maureen Ormonde. :)

  • @InfectionMusic

Cheer up. Maureen Ormonde might have gained 150 pounds. If that's the case you should be praising Roxy Music.

  • I wonder if the two kids at the end of the video ever knew they had been in it

  • I bet Jerry Hall insired Bryan Ferry to write this song. It was after Mick Jagger stole Jerry from him, back in 1977. he was "Dancing Away " the heartache. I just heard this song recently for the first time in 30 years. Never knew who recorded it back then, but i always liked it.

  • I miss this music too! Plus some of the best lyrics! "Dressed to kill and guess who's dying" and "Loneliness is a crowded room". It don't get much better.

  • I saw them in Los Angeles in 1981 and didn't want the concert to end!! I'll always have a crush on Bryan Ferry. My husband loves him too.

  • Here in the States, this song did not get the attention it deserved, only reaching #41. But I bought the record....

  • nice to see so many comments on this classic.

i think we are all showing our age and loving it.

    great music for all.

    paul

  • Love this song. Thanx

  • Now compare Roxy Music and today's music. Famous pop "stars" that have only looks without romance. This was a thing that made Roxy Music one of the best bands ever. They truly are.

  • What a wonderful song. This is my favorite song of Roxy music. This is best vocal singing I've heard from Bryan Ferry. Could listen the song again and again. Dance away .......

  • Still a great all these years later!

  • when music was still great!

  • I dare anyone to say that this aint slick.

  • Why was this promo video clip not included on the DVD?

  • A high point in the continuum of the musical beat.

  • The song 'Prarie Rose' is often said that was wrttien about Jerry Hall, could this also had be written after they broke up? The poignant lyrics seem to suggest so, but I was only 10 years old in '79 so never really knew.

  • This looks like it was filmed in a disused cinema, does anyone know which one?

  • "Fly mofo" is a complement. Fly meaning "slick" "cool" "suave" etc. lol

  • Ferry is such a fly mo-fo!

  • Good tune......

  • A colorful beautiful song that stands the test of time and will always be one of my favorites.

  • RM was quite influential for the New Wave and New Romantics. if you listen to the bass lines it was copied by the Thompson Twins. it was very minimalist for the era it was in of punk and long hair classic rock. i.e. Avalon

  • @brideshead1921 : You are spot on...so many new wave bands, very cleverly, have taken inspiration from RM...

  • I think many women would disagree with you.

  • I did like this Song, but to me it always had a sound problem; namely, it lacked a few brass backing instruments (i.e. trumpets or something) It always came across as a bit 'empty' and 'hollow' music-wise - just something missing... I wasn't the only one who thought so either; at least two other people I knew at the time felt the same and agreed. Still a great Song though!

  • not good sounds as recorded that one; but it's a wonderfull song...

  • very underrated here in the states.

  • Because in the "states" people are a bunch of crap.

  • Not a great era for RM, but a great tune nonetheless. Cheesy as hell.

  • txt me my baby , i love this song too. need to get all these songs and kiss you forever pamela. xxx next song randy crawford almaz

  • we are getting short changed in todays music!

  • One of the most memorable songs of 1979. Kept out of No.1 by Blondie's dreadful 'Sunday Girl'.

  • Ari979, I am a big fan of Blondie, but I agree with you that 'Dance Away' was undeservedly kept off Number One by Blondie's 'dreadful' Sunday Girl.

  • I liked Blondie too, so 'dreadful' might be a touch strong. I just never regarded Sunday Girl as one of their best songs, and definitley not worthy of no.1

  • this was the song ,when you grabbed a girl to dance smoochy with.a classic song.

  • classic ah to be 17 again.!!!

  • my fave of there`s. thanx 4 postin.

  • 1979 a great year for music, the great era of disco was comining to a end ,roxy music great band

  • I am 6 again! But i understand the lyrics, now. <3

  • I feel the same exact way when i hear this

  • I love this song takes me back and bryan ferry so lovely love Shirlsxx

  • Love bryan ferry this songs reminds me of a waltz I once had with a very special friend

  • Brings me back to midnight sun nights, tiny windswept flowers and of course: My great lover. He still is after 46 years!

  • Yeah me too, this type of music u dont hear anymore...

  • i wish they still made music like this.

  • @gbarba5 This music is classics and seems it is simple song. But this is peace of art, as it is very difficult to write this kind of songs. All is perfect, from music to singing. Also Bryan is best actor when he introduces song to audience, top music performer.

  • @MusicListener5 when you listen to these great songs, you realize how much today's music lacks soul and it has no conception of what a love song should be or sound like

  • @gbarba5 many of us out there that wants to see music return to where it was, myself personally the period between 1967-1987

  • @BLUESMANRONCHICAGO

Hey I agree to a point.

We must not disregard the generational aspect of that opinion.I honestly find myself thinking the same thing about the superior music of the 1990's.I'm 37.....do you see my point?

  • @BrutusMcCrunch yeah, see what you mean, but musicianship wise, music from 60's, 70's and 80's i believe to be better

  • @gbarba5

Me too! :( Another lovely Roxy Music song! <3

  • @gbarba5 Yep, agreed.

  • @gbarba5 bryan ferry turned out some fantastic music in the 80's, timeless and i still enjoy listening to Roxy and his solo stuff today

  • God I love RM. I can especially recommend "Viva" - I have that on MC, vinyl and CD!

  • He,s so cool he could stop global warming fabulous!

  • Dance away the heartache...Spring & Summer of 1979. Bellissimo!

  • forestgumpaed....i had a friend who was the spit image of him(unfortunately he topped himself on mothers day and he did the stupid thing at his mothers)great feel good song and well worthy of the #1 spot back all those years.

  • erci pour cette vidéo que je n'avais jamais vue. J'adore cette chanson et Bryan Ferry.

  • Classy Englishman, Mr. Ferry!

  • This song reminds me of a friend who I havent seen in a long long time :-(

  • ENORMI ROXY!

  • Damn this brings back memories of the girl I lost at 16 when this song meant so much to me..

    Of course...we married at 21.

21 years later and two kids.

    This still chokes me up.

  • @EESASTORM

    Thanks for raising my kids.

  • @EESASTORM Damn indeed. Your comment is an entire novel in 37 words.

Congrats on having the best of both worlds--poignant, bittersweet memories AND a happy present-day life--and this song to remember them both by.

  • @EESASTORM That's beautiful.

  • @EESASTORM that's fucking awesome

  • @MacGrurry Thanks..........

What is funny is we met in kindergarten. So I have known her 39 years of my 44 years on the planet.
