Getting a bird from a retail pet shop is going to make things harder, first off. The hand-fed babies are easiest. I got mine from a pet shop unfortunately.

Millet sprays are your friends. If you haven't make sure you give them some now and then. They will get just about addicted to it. Then you can try keeping your hand in the cage until it eventually comes over and eats it from your hand. Hold the spray out a bit, so the bird doesn't have to come too close. Eventually it'll get friendly
