So the Disco only has centre diff lock? So e.g. usless in a situation like that. If TC wasn't working you could have did some left foot braking, might have helped transfer power to the wheels that had grip. Thats what TC does anyway, isn't it?
low box should have been on already. not all disco2s had dif lock but if it was fitted should already been engaged. its the usual tow bar aka the plough thts stopped you, should have increased momentum before hitting that part. there seems to be no action at the front wheels suggesting diflock is not on. but traction control should have pulled you out but frh wheel is doing nothing. definately not the right approach. assume you were not driving that alone? never try this alone, need a 2nd motor
cant see what near side wheels are doing. dif-lock only splits power 50/50 front to rear. once there though power takes the path of least resistance so can go to left or right wheel and still leave you stuck. disco2 should have traction control which should have pulled him out. faulty t/c??
this guy is a dumm ass because wen u feel that you getting stuck you slow down. dont speed up like this guy thats why he got stuck, he made a hole in the ground right away
Why he wloudnt already have low gear and diff lock on ? In some discoverys there is center diff lock, but there is no swicht for it inside the car at all, its the discovery whit traction control, it have all open diffs. But you can install a aftermarket swicth for it...
Is there no traction control? In my experience the TC is not that bad. From the vid. it looks like the rear wheel spinns freely, and no attempt is made to turn the front wheel. My experience from my 2002 TD5 is that the TC does indeed work, though I like the CDL and ARBs on my D90 better. You don't have to have spinning wheels to make it work. Looks like the rear suspension not is lifted. Coils springs?
This is a TD5 series II Disco with only centre diff-locks, yes it did get stuck. As noted we did have a winch so after a while (not much to winch off) we were back off the road. Trying it next year with a back up Disco to pull on.
The traction control is obviously not working because if it was the front tires would turn also and you'd see the tires being grabbed by the brakes trying to trasnsfer power to the wheels with traction. the traction control keeps all 4 tires turning. His obviously was malfunctioning. I have been in worse with my discovery in street tires and all 4 spun
steviewee,, Discovery TD5's started on 1999 T reg,and this is a 2001 Y reg series2. Also u can not put a newer reg number on a older vehicle just incase u think that. From a discovery TD5 owner..
it a 2000 - 2001 disco 2 td5 they do not have a diff lock as fitted from factory but you can get one fitted they cost about 900 pounds but he has a winch so he could get out any way
Don't post unless you know what you're talking about. Its a Disco 1 not a Disco 2, it does have a difflock and like all other unmodified 4x4's its a central diff lock, which means when you loose traction one wheel on both axle's remains still, because only the central diff is locked not the axle diffs. So he may or may not have it engaged. A viscous coupling is used on land rovers to operate the engine fan, as the engine heats up the viscous liquid becomes thicker making the fan spin faster.
You shouldn't be so scathing - its a TD5, so it's a D2... Just look at the back lights. As you said, don't post if you dont know what you're talking about!
You are WRONG! Thats a Discovery II, anyone could tell that just by looking at the back lights! So why do you say don't post unless you know what you're talking about when you yourself dont know what your talking about??
This is not a discovery 200 or 300(series 1) it is a TD5 series 2 (very nice too)Land rover did use a viscous coupling on Auto Classic Rangies during the 80's
It propably doesn't have one. Land Rover left the center difflock out from Disco II's from year 2000 to 2003 I think. They rely on the ETC which, of course, does not work. 2004 Disco has the CDL again.
Traction control doesn`t work.

why does not the front wheels moves?. is it because of the disco 2 dosen`t have diff-lock?

disco 2s are prone to hubs failin and this causes the traction control not to work... this could be the case here

When the disco stops, why do you just sit there spinning the wheels? What's the point in that?? (apart from digging yourself a bigger hole)

Viscous unit is used for the fan not coupling, sorry made a mistake. Viscous couplings are used for differentials, but not on landies.
