Hendrix was a muscian on the highest level. So many times you hear that guys today can't do what he did back then. He was not about playing fast. He was about creating something unique that has lasted decades.

You need to say what they are good at or the word "greatest" is too subjective to argue over.
You can say "he is the best at coming up with innovative ways to play guitar" or "he is fast and melodious" or " his licks are full of energy unlike any other" or "he is the fasted guitar player ever "but saying "greatest" means he is the best at all of these things.

SRV and modern players might have better technique but who's to say what they would have been like at the time. besides, SRV and just about every other guitarst stole bits from Jimi, and Jimi expanded sonic boundaries in away never done before or since, despite all the great "technique players". The truth is technique is worth nothing without feel, and Jimi had the most soul ever period, and he changed music forever. He was like beethoven or mozart, or even better. No one today matches him.

if anybody betters Jimi, its in areas he didn't care for: shredding, sweep picking, tapping.
I highly doubt you know somebody who can create the illusion of 3 guitars playing with 1 guitar. thats handling rhythm, lead at the same time, with an overtone of bass.

Better could be seen in many ways! You can elaborate it with talent, difference, sound, tone, skill! Etc... the latter two are subjective (phrasing, improv) so "better technically" is a misnomer anyway.
the first one, skill, is also subjective but it is arguable.
you can say he uses more chords but better/skilled is n/a.

Lenny Breau is no modern-day guitarist. He was before Hendrix and during the same time of Hendrix too. Lenny used feedback before Hendrix got popular with it. Hendrix brought a lot to rock music. Lenny just performed, composed and interpreted music. Lenny was a genius, same as Hendrix. But I now see, in my opinion, that ,might have no truth for you, but that isn't false, like I said in my other comment. Now I see Lenny more of a legend for me than Hendrix will ever be. SRV was more proficient. But yes, hendrix was the best for his time. Thats like saying Black Sabbath was the best metal band of all time. SRV and modern players might have better technique but who's to say what they would have been like at the time. besides, SRV and just about every other guitarst stole bits from Jimi, and Jimi expanded sonic boundaries in away never done before or since, despite all the great "technique players". The truth is technique is worth nothing without feel, and Jimi had the most soul ever period, and he changed music forever. He was like beethoven or mozart, or even better. No one today matches him.
