Whats the name of that cartoon in which the bird chases the worm, cat chases the bird, the dog chases the cat and a lady running away from from a mouse.
Think it was a Chuck Jones cartoon and it is similar to this.
That cartoon was called "Fair and Worm-er," which was released theatrically on September 28, 1946. The skunk in the film resembled Pepe Le Pew, a character that Chuck conceived.
At the time, the real Jerry Colonna was becoming almost as famous as Bob Hope was, appearing on his weekly "PEPSODENT SHOW" {among Jerry's famous catchphrases were "Who's Yehoodi?" and "I don't ask questions, I just have FUN!!"}- and Warners always caricatured famous radio and screen stars...
i think Chuck was still doing the serious, Disney-like cartoons at Warner Brothers in 1941 and hadn't really gone into the direction most people are familiar with. a typical trademark in Friz Freleng cartoons are the musical timing scenes. Friz used more of that sort of thing than other directors...there's a scene in this cartoon where the Colonna worm is scooting along to a rhythm, followed by the bird, also in rhythm...starting at 4:11 in the cartoon...Friz is most popular for music timing.
Right, and apart from that the design of the characters gives away to anyone even slightly acquainted with the Warner directors' drawing styles that this is a Friz Freleng cartoon.
@reverendalexg: correct! Friz is the only director that did precise animation to music rhythms. The other directors did those same things but Friz filled his cartoons with them. The worm and the bird constantly move in rhythm to the music...a trademark of Friz during his Sylvester and Tweety cartoons. When the bird is hopping up and down it matches the musical accompaniment...particularly starting with the 4:16 time frame.

LOVE these old cartoons! The accompanying music is brilliant.
I thought the crow was going to finally find the worm in the last apple, but he'd be too full to want to eat him!

I know that the current ending MM theme lasted from 1941 - 1955. But why did WB cut out the original 1937 - 1941 theme!?
KrazyKartoonKid 3 years ago
@KrazyKartoonKid
This cartoon had the 1941-55 music from the beginning. The last cartoon to use the 1938-41 music was "Goofy Groceries," released March 29, 1941.

Judging by the way this cartoon looks, it was directed by Chuck,. It's too bad that these cartoons lost their original title cards/

Not really. Pretty recognizable Friz, nothing Chuck Jones-y about this at all.
