This concept sounds awesome. I don't know why when something cool comes out or there is something new people always feel the need to hate or try to out think it? Why can't we show a little love towards stuff that we dont understand. Im tired of how people on here will hate more than love any day of the week and yet when asked in polls do they dislike negative ads they say yes, but somehow negative advertising works. Sad.
I think this sounds cool & I am going to signup & tell my friends.
I'd like to know more details about Jay's 360 deals on the songs. I'm curious as to what the split is between the label and artist for publishing, mechanicals, etc.
@giddeo Yeah - I know what mechanicals are, but usually the songwriter will get the writer's share of the publishing royalties for their mechanicals, sync, performance, and print music, and the publishers (usually the label) will get their share of those - typically a 50/50 split. In the interview it sounded to me like he was having the songwriters sign away ALL rights to any publishing, which would be worse than a major label would do these days. If that's what he's doing, it's not right.
@marcfrigo it's a lot more economical to sign writer/artists which is what we're looking at. We are looking to split the profits 50/50 and publishing is 50% of the income. Our deals are short term, so if we are successful the artist can make more money and owe nothing to us for any future songs. Considering the value we're providing, I personally feel an artist will find this is the most equitable deal short of DIY.
@Futurehitdna Thanks for this info. This is a great deal, then. An artist would be hard pressed to find a better deal with any label. The short term deal is an amazing idea. You've created a scenario where the label is motivated to promote & market the songs, without locking the artist into a contract with options, and are giving better profits for the artist than the major labels and most indies. Great way for an artist to help launch their career and build a following.
so Jay Frank owns your master and pub copyrights in return for monetizing your song? unless i'm mistaken that is totally lame. I mean how difficult is it to shoot your killer track to known DJs to gain traction? Or warm up to the ad agency with a great marketing concept with your single? They won't listen? Then your song and sales pitch is lame. Work on that.
What is the benefit of DigSin? The lazy person's alternative? Would you sacrifice your best works for DigSin?
@swankrecords apparently very difficult since 80% of self-released music achieves zero traction. Most artists don't know how to market. I commend those that do and take the DIY route. My experience is that this is not the case. If you prefer, I could charge the artists thousands of dollars for our services and profit whether I succeed or not.

@marcfrigo Mechanicals is the music itself, the cd, the download, so the split is he pays you once and you get butt kiss after that
