Linux on windows. THAT'S WRONG! Plus you didn't explain that if you run it natively on a hard-drive not in V.M technology it runs a lot, lot faster. Plus you would have been able to do compiz fusion. But hey what do I expect from a Windows power user?
@Habbloxian Go suck on Microsoft balls because I couldn't give one! Who cares about desktop effects? Well just because you can't have them doesn't mean there not an option and plus they are showing off the power of Linux. Isn't this supposed to be a demo of Linux? Well there you go show it off to its full potential.

WINDOWS: gaming excellence, photoshop, winamp music excellence
horrible security (intentionally)
MAX OSX: musix, photoshop, and like.. i dunno. it is real good with music tho, that is for sure. and probably the best for video editing, but lacks affordable software (extortion)
@r2stik Start ubuntu, once you get to the desktop ->Insert Ubuntu CD -> then click on System->Administrator->Hardware Drivers. This will check for drivers. Some of the new hardware is not yet support it. You should check their website to see if it is. If not you will just have to wait.
I'm dual-booting Ubuntu and Windows and I've never booted Vista since. The main problem was that Linux hasn't got an equal Spotify client, but I just ran it with Wine instead. If you got the time to try Linux out, then go for it. It's a really fun experience to realize that something as good as Linux can be free :)
If you like free software and a Os that runs great on your pc, go with Ubuntu(I prefer this). If you need Windows specific software, you unfourtunatly need Windows. (Pick Ubuntu :)
I currently have Vista, but when I try to log on to any of my accounts (including the administrator) I get the message "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded." Safe mode doesn't work. System Restore doesn't work. I want to try Ubuntu. Is there a way to install it without logging on to a profile? If not, I'm screwed.

If your having problems saving your settings using the nvidia gui try using a default xorg.conf and execute the gui via terminal as sudo.
Yes you can but you need a program called wine or virtislbox to use them i belive. I just installed Ubuntu onto my computer some correct me if Im wrong anybody
have you tried using the software center. its in the top left corner under applications. at the bottom of the list is ubuntu software center. click that and youll get thousands of apps to install. just pick the one you want and click install. it even puts it in the right place for you.
i have a question. When i do the install without any changes can i download any software or change the graphics while im in the test ubuntu, cuz i cant. Is this normal or does it mean that it wont run properly and can i boot back to windows when i install it?
Ive just recently installed Ubuntu, which i am using right now, and i have a few questions. how do i make the screen like a cube? and how do i make the screen wobble if i move it around?
Depending on what graphics card you have you may need to install proprietary drivers (intels should work since they are open source). Once you have 3d acceleration you should download "compiz config settings manager" which you can apt-get thru terminal or from Synaptic. In Compiz config you just need to check the boxes for cube and rotate cube plugins. There is also an option for wobbly windows. Play with the settings, there are alot but don't be scared, they are fun and resettable.
ffmpeg is not installable and when I put an ubuntu 9.1 guest on Win 7 computer compiz is very very slow whereas with the same pc it was fast in pervious versions. So I'd think twice before switching to Ubuntu 9.1 just yet.
This is stupid thinking.. You can run ubuntu 9.10 fast, but.. When running it as guest in a virtual pc.. Graphical things will be very slow, because the graphics are calculated twice..
I really like the look and feel of what I've seen in Ubuntu. Im new to it to 9.1 would be the first version I've seen and tried but it looks much better for windows and much more organized.
2 Desktops is cool, It doesn't need so many computer requirements, great support, many ways to install and it has a whole catalogue of stuff. I find it really cool If i'm looking for specific software I can just use the software centre to find what I'm looking for.
thanx a lot for this amazing video. for me the main concearn about using linux next to windows was a possible data loss (this has hapenned several times in early days). this video showed an option of WUBI ... and i tried it - installed it. then used it. just in case made sure it can be removed - did it using add/remove programs and yeah.. it all works. finally i installed it again. i believe i will use linux more often now ;) and i will feel safer about it too.
@lukestratton1 its obviously a mac, what pc do you know can run 16gb of ram? and oh, look on apples website hmmm 16gb of ram avalible on a mac . funny that
Well actually people can go out and buy 16 GB RAM Modules and it will pretty much work on any computer. So Macs aren't the only ones able to handle 16 GB of RAM.
Extreme multi-tasking, complex CGI work, editing many HD videos at once, etc. There's a reason 16GB of RAM is available for Mac Pros and other computers - some people need that much RAM for work.
nice. but your picking all the popular people. stop it. check there subscribers. if they have to much dont add them. your not helping others get more popular
it can. just search "wow ubuntu" (no quotes) on google. You can run WoW on ubuntu through WINE (WINE is a program that lets you run some windows applications on linux)

But, here's an idea. Run Ubuntu installation within Ubuntu itself. You can make Virtual machine in Linux too. So, after you show installation you can continue showing OS in it's full power (full desktop effects).
my elaboration would be that it doesnt do anything u cant do with a windows pc or a mac, which are much more popular and intern have more software available for users to do more and have easier collaboration and actually get stuff done. so unless people are like you who have used it for a long time and like that you can change and customize it until the operating system is unrecognizable to anyone just for the hell of it, then having an operating system like this is "pointless" or "useless."
Linux is open source and all its programs are open source. There's a lot more programs for Linux in general than for either Windows or Macintosh.
There is no such thing as a 'best' OS. In general Windows is best for games, Mac for graphics, and Linux for anything that falls between the cracks. Though anyone can make any O.S. work, and in most cases Linux can be much more powerful once mastered.
I'd never say use any single O.S. because it's just better to have options. I'd just rather use Linux
Flash is browser based and all three operating systems support it.
Linux has driver support for almost all hardware out there and those it doesn't can be made reletivlty easily, and emulated using Windows drivers in some cases.
I don't know what you mean by restricted package but if you mean software you have to pay for well that's the case with all Operating systems. Just with Linux there's thousands of free open source software's to use instead.
Not every software made for Linux is open source, but the vast majority is. There is essentially an open source application for everything you could ever really need done.
muhlange - you can't dual boot a VirtualBox virtual hard drive, BUT you can use VirtualBox to run a "real" installation from another partition (i.e. set it up dual boot first, then create a virtual machine that boots from that partition).
Ubuntu doesnt work in my computer, it crashes so often...

But not all open source...
Meh, I'm just nitpicking lol

Not every software made for Linux is open source, but the vast majority is. There is essentially an open source application for everything you could ever really need done.

@YUPnNOPE why do you say this?

hi
I'm using Virtualbox daily and here is a tip that is very usefully
because Linux systems, here Ubuntu, are thier kernels very often, so I recommend to install "dkms" before the VBoxAdditions.
so if you are updating the kernel it compiles the VBoxAdditions for the new kernel automaticly..
and if you want to use that virtual machine daily choose the
package called "linux-virtual" to install the virtual kernel by "sudo apt-get install linux-virtual" or in Synaptic for speeding up your vm..

NLaakso95 2 years ago
seriously if you're going to do Ubuntu screencast do it from Ubuntu itself, it's not hard at all.

@ducy84 Find me a ubuntu screen recorder that records its own install, and i'll agree with your comment

muhlange - you can't dual boot a VirtualBox virtual hard drive, BUT you can use VirtualBox to run a "real" installation from another partition (i.e. set it up dual boot first, then create a virtual machine that boots from that partition).
