  • Ubuntu doesnt work in my computer, it crashes so often...

  • @sorryvoid Try running the Live CD. Crashing so often is Windows' job.

  • thanks for the password. blahblahblahblaa :)

  • Linux on windows. THAT'S WRONG! Plus you didn't explain that if you run it natively on a hard-drive not in V.M technology it runs a lot, lot faster. Plus you would have been able to do compiz fusion. But hey what do I expect from a Windows power user?

  • @avelx Aw boo hoo. Who cares about desktop effects, anyway? >_>

  • @Habbloxian Go suck on Microsoft balls because I couldn't give one! Who cares about desktop effects? Well just because you can't have them doesn't mean there not an option and plus they are showing off the power of Linux. Isn't this supposed to be a demo of Linux? Well there you go show it off to its full potential.

  • @avelx I would but I don't have a screen recorder and I don't really want to be arsed to get one :)

  • <3 Ubuntu

  • 17:19 minutes of nothing useful.....

How stupid do you think we are?????

You told us what every person can easily find on his own......TY

  • @paparas78 very, very stupid.

  • Less talky, more showy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! J/k vids fine, ill just look somewhere else for more show instead of talk, because that what I want

  • hell yeah..ubuntu, i got this program dual booted in chase stupid widnows messes up

  • Ubuntu 10.10 is commin' out soon! It's going to be beast.

  • @ZamatoElite you mean 10.4 2010, 4th month 10.4 lol nah im messing with you I cant wait neither.

  • UBUNTU : great for all normal activity

say, internets, pron, stealing music, etc.

    word processing, hacking, ebay, lolcats,

    has winamp/itune alternatives

    VLC, chrome etc.

WINDOWS: gaming excellence, photoshop, winamp music excellence

    horrible security (intentionally)

MAX OSX: musix, photoshop, and like.. i dunno. it is real good with music tho, that is for sure. and probably the best for video editing, but lacks affordable software (extortion)

  • perrrrddddoooooonnnn?????

  • Windows 7 Main OS

    Testing Ubuntu(effects ;/)

  • I downloaded ubuntu today

  • CAN'T INSTALL NVIDIA 195 DRIVERS KARMIC 64bit

  • @r2stik Start ubuntu, once you get to the desktop ->Insert Ubuntu CD -> then click on System->Administrator->Hardware Drivers. This will check for drivers. Some of the new hardware is not yet support it. You should check their website to see if it is. If not you will just have to wait.

  • Ubuntu was my primary OS, but I decided to man up for another Linux Distro: Fedora. so yea LINUX ftw

  • I'm dual-booting Ubuntu and Windows and I've never booted Vista since. The main problem was that Linux hasn't got an equal Spotify client, but I just ran it with Wine instead. If you got the time to try Linux out, then go for it. It's a really fun experience to realize that something as good as Linux can be free :)

  • 5/5 great job duncan

  • is ubuntu 9.10 better than windows vista??? pls reply ineed to know i have xp so which one i should install

  • @charizardjoel

Its basically personal preference. personally i would go with ubuntu over XP. But i also use windows 7.

  • Youre right. Windows 7 is good, but Ubuntu is great, if you want a faster PC.

  • I would install Ubuntu, cause Vista is shite. Ubuntu runs perfectly.

  • @charizardjoel

    no viruses on ubuntu...so yea.

  • Windows 7 works fine.

  • install both. Ubuntu is free anyway

  • If you like free software and a Os that runs great on your pc, go with Ubuntu(I prefer this). If you need Windows specific software, you unfourtunatly need Windows. (Pick Ubuntu :)

  • hey thanks alot man i am running ubuntu 9.10 it has great out put than windows in someway. i am getting used to it tc god bless

  • I currently have Vista, but when I try to log on to any of my accounts (including the administrator) I get the message "The User Profile Service service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded." Safe mode doesn't work. System Restore doesn't work. I want to try Ubuntu. Is there a way to install it without logging on to a profile? If not, I'm screwed.

  • I have nvidia hardware and it comes with a default driver, how do I adjust setting or download the nvidia drivers for my video hardware. Its just some script,How do I install the .run file.

  • By default (provided your card is supported) it is enabled by System | Admin | Hardware Drivers. My own mobo no longer supported it's onboard nvidia video. Bought a new DX10 supported one, no probs since.

If your having problems saving your settings using the nvidia gui try using a default xorg.conf and execute the gui via terminal as sudo.

  • can you still install programs intended for windows if you have ubuntu?

  • Yes you can but you need a program called wine or virtislbox to use them i belive. I just installed Ubuntu onto my computer some correct me if Im wrong anybody

  • it is possible using wine or crossover software but not perfect. Vice Versa with windows and macs.

The best way would be to use a native version or alternative software. All depends what programs you intend to run.

  • 16gigs of ram nice

  • I am an ubuntu fan over windows give me linux over windows any day microsoft sucks!

  • is server edition better?

  • Server edition is for servers, comes without a GUI per default...

  • first time linux user and I must say I'm liking it, yest its hard to install stuff at times but its so fast.

  • have you tried using the software center. its in the top left corner under applications. at the bottom of the list is ubuntu software center. click that and youll get thousands of apps to install. just pick the one you want and click install. it even puts it in the right place for you.

  • hey steal video lol

  • GO DUNCAN AKA MOB3

  • You sound like mobilephone2003!

  • @74ryanwolf this was a screencast submitted by him, check the description

  • Thats because it is mobilephone2003 XD

  • thats bcz he is ^_^

  • i have a question. When i do the install without any changes can i download any software or change the graphics while im in the test ubuntu, cuz i cant. Is this normal or does it mean that it wont run properly and can i boot back to windows when i install it?

  • @ildunari you can change it.. it doesnt save it though

  • i just asked a simple question, i dont need a smart ass answer. thank you.

  • it is a different operating system, you can instal it inside windows which means you can choose between them when windows loads.

    OR

    Dual boot

    HE DAMN WELL SAYS!

  • Thank you, i should have asked about duel boot in the first place, ok that works for me. have a nice one

  • Ive just downloaded and bruned ubuntu 9.10 :D my old computer was so so so so ! Slow!

So i choosed to reboot it with linux ubuntu :D

I think this is so easy to du im on 22% on innstall:D

  • 0:46 And since it looks like Windows, that won't be a problem.

    0:49 "'Ere's wot we're gunna do."

1:06 "Because burro walk rather slow, don't you know."

    1:27 He sounds so sure.

    2:04 I didn't get any of that.

  • Excellent video guide for Ubuntu.

  • how do you download gaim in 9.10?

    Where is it??

Im new to ubuntu please help

  • Linux is the ultimate solution to powerful computers that look pretty.

  • Ive just recently installed Ubuntu, which i am using right now, and i have a few questions. how do i make the screen like a cube? and how do i make the screen wobble if i move it around?

  • Depending on what graphics card you have you may need to install proprietary drivers (intels should work since they are open source). Once you have 3d acceleration you should download "compiz config settings manager" which you can apt-get thru terminal or from Synaptic. In Compiz config you just need to check the boxes for cube and rotate cube plugins. There is also an option for wobbly windows. Play with the settings, there are alot but don't be scared, they are fun and resettable.

  • Does ubuntu install with beryl or will I have to install beryl on its own as well?

  • I use Ubuntu

  • i install ubuntu how i go to device to install the box thanks

  • Ubuntu linux gets better every release, its has definitely became my primary OS of choice. :)

  • @Ubuntufrog Now that isn't true anymore... at least with 11.04

  • ffmpeg is not installable and when I put an ubuntu 9.1 guest on Win 7 computer compiz is very very slow whereas with the same pc it was fast in pervious versions. So I'd think twice before switching to Ubuntu 9.1 just yet.

  • when you run linux on windows ,,,this is what you must expect,,,,windows just sucks,,,and ffmpeg just install it

  • This is stupid thinking.. You can run ubuntu 9.10 fast, but.. When running it as guest in a virtual pc.. Graphical things will be very slow, because the graphics are calculated twice..

  • Excellent explanation!...Thanks :D

  • am i the only one who's software center runs alot slow that their add/remove applications? (especially the downloading)

  • hey, does anyone know if i can install ubuntu twice from the same cd?

  • yea u can install it as many times as you like

  • Ah dang, this was what my screencast was gonna be on :|

  • So, do something slightly different with Ubuntu. :)

  • Yeah, I came up with something else to do, hope nobody steals this one too! lol

  • Yeah, I came up with another idea, hope nobody steals this one too! lol

  • Since when did I steal your idea o.O

  • LOL!

    Idk :P

  • The only "Dock" that anyone should be using on gnome these days is Gnome DO, it's literally the best reason to even use gnome.

  • Heh, though Gnome DO is fine, I'd choose Cairo Dock over it any day XD.

  • I really like the look and feel of what I've seen in Ubuntu. Im new to it to 9.1 would be the first version I've seen and tried but it looks much better for windows and much more organized.

2 Desktops is cool, It doesn't need so many computer requirements, great support, many ways to install and it has a whole catalogue of stuff. I find it really cool If i'm looking for specific software I can just use the software centre to find what I'm looking for.

  • im using mint atm, is there a way i can insall ubuntu and wipe mint?

  • de lo mejor este sismtema operativo! de lo mejor" es verdd bueno e video dices muchoo mas bien ! saludo amigo bue video ok y HD esta de pro! ok!

    :D

  • Great video, I have been using Ubuntu for a while now and this is just another great installment

  • 8.04.3 FTW, 9.10 was made more "user friendly" which i think just made it more IDIOT friendly and its slower. Linux mint 7 or ubuntu 8.04/9.04 :)

  • Comment removed

  • Ubuntu 9.10 is awesome, I like it and i think it is staying.

you can have more memory, I have 512 MB on my notebook

PC with a 250 GB HD and this baby run fast. better then the Vista.. sorry Vista..

  • this is one very good video, Thank you much.

    -Rome

  • Looks more professional

  • Duncan from MegaByteTV!

  • I dont see the point. I'll stick with Windows.

  • GO DUNCAN

  • Thanks :D good work :]

  • really interesting!

    good "tutorial" as well.

  • thanx a lot for this amazing video. for me the main concearn about using linux next to windows was a possible data loss (this has hapenned several times in early days). this video showed an option of WUBI ... and i tried it - installed it. then used it. just in case made sure it can be removed - did it using add/remove programs and yeah.. it all works. finally i installed it again. i believe i will use linux more often now ;) and i will feel safer about it too.

  • snow leopard can handle 16 terabyte of ram

  • 64 bit operating systems handle the same amount of ram max weather it be Windows, Mac or Linux, etc.

  • @Federico84 theoretical 16TB....

  • woah... high spec pc!

  • @lukestratton1 its obviously a mac, what pc do you know can run 16gb of ram? and oh, look on apples website hmmm 16gb of ram avalible on a mac . funny that

  • Well actually people can go out and buy 16 GB RAM Modules and it will pretty much work on any computer. So Macs aren't the only ones able to handle 16 GB of RAM.

  • the 64bit version of windows 7 can have 16gb of ram...

  • way more man, 144GB. (even saw 2TB as a real Max)

  • thats impossible( the 2TB was his total hard drive space)

  • 64bit can handle terabytes of RAM. Proven by Wikipedia.

  • Wikipedia is so reliable, and trust worthy.

  • and what exactly do you NEED 16GB of RAM for?

  • Extreme multi-tasking, complex CGI work, editing many HD videos at once, etc. There's a reason 16GB of RAM is available for Mac Pros and other computers - some people need that much RAM for work.

  • Is now going to install ubuntu on my netbook. Xp crawls along even though it's one of the faster atom processors. Well done excellent screencast!!!

  • Great video! Quick and detailed. I installed ubuntu right after I saw this.

  • Thank you mobliephone2003...... great tutorial/overview of Ubuntu

  • When you unistal the startup menu stays.

Je moest remove this in msconfig.

  • Took 2-3 weeks to arrive. For free shipping.. that's pretty impressive.

  • gratz mobliephone2003 ive been following duncan for awhile, good choice for screen cast

  • i just have one question....can it run WoW

  • it can. just search "wow ubuntu" (no quotes) on google. You can run WoW on ubuntu through WINE (WINE is a program that lets you run some windows applications on linux)

    have fun!

  • but you gotta pay for that right?

  • no its all free

  • But WINE has some bugs too. If you really want to run WoW then go ahead. but Iv heard some bad stories about it.

  • I tried to launch the 'Windows Install' version but kept getting an error when I tried to install the file. Not sure of the problem. May have to ask for the CD instead. 8-/

  • ls / would have been easier :)

  • I have two questions, it doesn't matter with the vidéo topic.

How do you get firefox menu bar so tiny ?

Witch software do you use for your screencast ?

    Thanks

  • @deelazy he uses TinyMenu and BB Flashback Pro :P

  • this isn't twitter fuck off

  • if you didn't know, youtube came with the "@" aswell, it works with some comments, so sorry about that.

  • you tube is now copying twitter, i thought it was stupid

  • Thanks buddy

  • its ubuntu

  • You can use the terminal better. 'cd /' gets you to the first folder directly and while typing a folder or a file name you can use the TAB and it will auto complete it for you.

  • mobilephone2003 woo you rox :P

  • @mobilephone2003

    You have a point there.

But, here's an idea. Run Ubuntu installation within Ubuntu itself. You can make Virtual machine in Linux too. So, after you show installation you can continue showing OS in it's full power (full desktop effects).

  • pointless operating system.

  • Please elebarate. I am using Ubuntu for a long time and it is definitely not useless. I can do everything with it that I want to do and even more.

  • my elaboration would be that it doesnt do anything u cant do with a windows pc or a mac, which are much more popular and intern have more software available for users to do more and have easier collaboration and actually get stuff done. so unless people are like you who have used it for a long time and like that you can change and customize it until the operating system is unrecognizable to anyone just for the hell of it, then having an operating system like this is "pointless" or "useless."

  • Linux is open source and all its programs are open source. There's a lot more programs for Linux in general than for either Windows or Macintosh.

There is no such thing as a 'best' OS. In general Windows is best for games, Mac for graphics, and Linux for anything that falls between the cracks. Though anyone can make any O.S. work, and in most cases Linux can be much more powerful once mastered.

I'd never say use any single O.S. because it's just better to have options. I'd just rather use Linux

  • What about the restricted package, some drivers and flash?

  • Flash is browser based and all three operating systems support it.

Linux has driver support for almost all hardware out there and those it doesn't can be made reletivlty easily, and emulated using Windows drivers in some cases.

I don't know what you mean by restricted package but if you mean software you have to pay for well that's the case with all Operating systems. Just with Linux there's thousands of free open source software's to use instead.

  • But not all open source...

    Meh, I'm just nitpicking lol

  • Not every software made for Linux is open source, but the vast majority is. There is essentially an open source application for everything you could ever really need done.

  • @YUPnNOPE why do you say this?

  • hi

I'm using Virtualbox daily and here is a tip that is very usefully

because Linux systems, here Ubuntu, are thier kernels very often, so I recommend to install "dkms" before the VBoxAdditions.

so if you are updating the kernel it compiles the VBoxAdditions for the new kernel automaticly..

and if you want to use that virtual machine daily choose the

package called "linux-virtual" to install the virtual kernel by "sudo apt-get install linux-virtual" or in Synaptic for speeding up your vm..

  • mobilephone2003!!! Yay!

  • @mobilephone2003 what program are you using to record the screencast?

  • he uses bbflashback

  • @AmazingJustinTech many thanks

  • The best screencast so far! :D Awesome ;D

  • VMware is much better..

  • @costescuandrei1975 I have a video on VMWare Player 3.0 on my own channel.

  • Excellent screencast! 5 Stars !

  • will anybody make a screencast about browser

  • seriously if you're going to do Ubuntu screencast do it from Ubuntu itself, it's not hard at all.

  • @ducy84 Find me a ubuntu screen recorder that records its own install, and i'll agree with your comment

  • muhlange - you can't dual boot a VirtualBox virtual hard drive, BUT you can use VirtualBox to run a "real" installation from another partition (i.e. set it up dual boot first, then create a virtual machine that boots from that partition).

  • mobilephone2003, you rock!

  • Very nice 2-in-1 tutorial (Virtual box + Ubuntu). Thank you!

  • great duncan, you did it :D

  • dude GET TO THE POINT!

skip all that virtual box stuff and just reveiw the OS

  • the original said installation/screencast, asshole

  • @nephildevil I say at the beginning what I am doing, and the title here is different to the one I intended it to be.

  • Love the airline pilot style sounds cool. Great vid.

  • This new version doesn't support Nvidia GeForece 6200 PCI card for Compiz effects. Jaunty does though.

  • im installing ubuntu right now for the first time because of this vid THX
