  • I think Emilie tried so hard not to laugh at a man playing Liz lmao.

  • i wonder who she thinks is the better kisser? rob pattinson(Edward) or Jason Behr(Max) ?

  • @fraley250r

    Dominic Monaghan :P

  • Her American accent has gotten soooo much better! You can still hear a touch of Aussie in her here! In Remember Me it's completely not there.

"I really like her" at the end is still Aussified

  • Her American accent has gotten soooo much better! You can still hear a touch of Aussie in her here! In Remember Me it's completely not there.

  • "We're just combining our fluids." <-- That sounds so weird :D

  • Emilie has amazing chemistry with Jason. I wish they didn't have to ruin Tess just so Max and Liz could end up together.

  • i love tess !!! they ruinned his character in the end!!

  • I loveeeeee Emilie i love love love her. I was soooooooo upset when they made her evil and they treated her bad through the whole show. Look at the Audition tape . . SMH she's great! and look how Jason Behr whatever his name is is smirking in the end. UGH ILOVE HER SO MUCH. liz was ok too but she wasn't better than tess !

  • @DuhFuqinBade5t DITTO on everything you said. The chemistry between Emilie & Jason is perfect. And Liz was boring, Tess wasn't. IDK how anyone can like Liz better than Tess.

  • @MrsKenobi was this the only audition tape. aww such chemistry?

  • @DuhFuqinBade5t There's another audition with Katherine Heigl. It's not as fun, but you can see it by going to my page

  • Emilie is an awesome actress.

  • i love Emilie de Ravin,so i love tess! ;p

  • She wasn't bad, she killed some people, but for protect her son, ok, she's shoudn't have killed those people... Alex death makes me be depressed... I loved his gosth dancing with Isabel :):):):), she's cute... Emilie De Ravin ;)

  • @RockNRollitaly She was bad. She would have gotten Max and the others killed if they had left with her. All she wanted was Max's kid.

  • I love emilie de ravin but i HATE tess. I was so happy when she died. But now im happy that shes on lost i love her character in lost. HAhaha

  • another addition to the fans of tess!!!!

i've been her fan ever since i saw her in roswell....

i hate it when they got rid of her

i was kinda wishing that she's come back---

  • Very late comment, but another big Tess lover here. 'Roswell' was ruined for me when they wrote her off. She had so much potential as a character -- someone who'd always embraced her alien side and was just starting to be part of a human family. What they did to her made no sense at all, I guess they just thought it would make the Max/Liz fans happy. It still annoys me!

  • Yay I'm so glad to see another Tess lover. It's good to see someone with sense ;) She was the best character on the show because she could be alien and human. I still hate Katims for what he did to Tess.

  • emilie is such an amazing actress. tess was basically my favorite character on roswell and i hate what the writers did to her character :-(

  • ditto on all accounts. I like seeing another Tess fan since so few of us exist.

  • yet another Tess fan...damn the writers for ruining a beautiful show by killing Tess.

  • When Tess left I became a Roswell hater.

  • @MrsKenobi I agreee !

  • i'm another fan.. she was the best character in the series... and she is so beautiful!

  • iiv seen this b4 but i dint no it was an audition

    tess is a murderer!

    poor alex =[

  • It amuses me that some people easily accept that dumbass storyline.

  • agree with you MrsKenobi...!

  • Here's the absolute greatest kicker.

I know we don't like season 3, but bear with me.

In season 3, Maria makes out with another guy while she is with Michael. However, this cheating is completely downplayed by Liz and Maria as "following her feelings" like it is completely okay.

Go back to Max kissing Tess in Season 1. He was not completely in control of his actions. Yet, everyone scolds him for it.

There's the most blatant abuse of the double standard, all because people don't like Tess.

  • I forgot a lot about S3, but you're right. Any time the girls did something like cheat that was OK but if the guys cheated they'd be crucified for it. It goes back to most of the fans being girls (I think) and wanting the human girls to have every option while every guy has to worship only them.

  • i loved tess she was my fave character in it but it was just ruined when she killed alex

  • She was my fav, too. It's easy to ignore the "she killed Alex" B.S. since it made no sense.

  • She had some the best lines in the entire series, too.

    See end of Vegas ep.

  • I need to rewatch that ep. I don't remember a lot of the show.

  • I agree.

In fact, Tess was originally one of the nice characters.

Watch the Christmas ep and the New York ep, where she is completely nice to the Valenties and then she is completely devoted to Max.

It was just so easy to peg her as the "evil bitch" because everyone and their mom is a Dreamer (Max and Liz fan)

I like Rebel (Max and Tess) better.

  • Yea, Tess was a nice character and I can't understand how so many people hate her. The only reason why she was written off is because so many fans hated her guts for "breaking up" M/L *roll eyes*

I'm a huge Max/Tess fan too. I love the ep where they go to NY because it gave them a chance to bond. Too bad we got nothing between them after that ep.

  • Great clip. Tess was a terrific addition to the cast and storyline in S1. But the writers really butchered her character and the show with her killing Alex. You could tell that was a late minute change in plans. It came out of nowhere and didn't even make sense considering what happened earlier in the season.

  • I agree with you about a billion percent.

I like to pretend Tess' character was never ruined.

  • Agreed.

  • im a tess fan to and what u said about her char part earlier was so true i ont like jesse they should have kept alex:( i loved him he was funny

  • I don't understand how they allowed a good character (Tess) to leave and then they replaced her with Mr. Dull.

  • You mean Jesse, the guy that Isabel met and married in a matter of months?

  • yep, Jesse = Mr. Dull

  • omg lol i love that part " we're just combining our fluids "

  • That's my fav part.

  • ...you know, I think it ate the first half of my reply to you... So I'll recap so the reply underneath you makes sense: In short: "Season 3=terrible plot/ destroyed great characters (like Maria and Kavar)/forced new ones on us in the worst way possible (Jesse; cool but why/how could Isabelle suddenly be married just like that?)"

  • yea, I'm afraid that if Tess was in S3, she would've been butchered even more rather than redeemed. Emilie played Tess to be a sweet girl who just wanted her family to accept her. What the writers did to her character made no sense. And don't worry about ranting. I enjoy reading it. :)

why introduce Jesse when you can keep an awsome character like Tess? and Kivar was not the big, bad alien like he was made out to be *rollseyes*

  • Either my computer is being bad, or my posts really aren't posting... So I'm trying this one more time and I apoligize if you see more than one of these: -Oh, I KNOW; I really don't get the writers of Roswell. That story had SO much promise and such great characters...-

  • they even destroyed Liz, who, I believe, was meant to be the sweet, innocent, naive one, but instead was...Grr! (I really hated her by the end because of that). But yeah, on subject: I saw Emilie in a 15 sec. Lost promo where she says one line in russian, and I definitely liked what I saw ;D

  • I didn't like Liz, but they did butcher her character too. The way she ended up in S3 was no where near her S1 self.

I was shocked to see that Emilie even got to do a Lost promo considering she's a background character.

  • So true (about Liz). But talking Roswell brings up hard feelings about the writers, and, well... Emilie is so much more enjoyable! lol I bet it was all Russia could get XD

  • WOW, Roswell fans admitting to the change in Liz's character?? DAMN!! I thought fans were usually too stuck over what a mean little boy Max had turned into to ever notice that Liz was little like her original sweet and innocent self by late Season 2. I'm glad at least somebody was watching both characters in that relationship instead of the usual "Why couldn't Max worship the ground Liz walked on like he didn in Season 1??"

  • Lol. I can't help but laugh at your comment. I'm Sorry. I'M just surprised to hear that no one else saw it too. I don't think any of the characters came out alive by the end of it all. ...like they were replaced by aliens or something... >D

  • The ending of Roswell was weird altogether. Like it wasn't even the same show.

  • In the beginning, it was about high school kids who happened to be aliens.

In the end, it was about aliens who happened to be high school students.

As you can see, there is a huge difference.

  • I rather see the writers explore more of the alieness, though, because that's what interested me. Not the boring human problems that I could watch on any other show.

  • Good point.

But, they did it pretty poorly.

This was due in part that there were two executive producers

*science fiction writer Ronald D. Moore

    *and the original Jason Katims

I bet they clashed a lot, due to Moore's abrasive attitude.

Moore wrote some of the best eps of the series.

The problem is that Moore writes very serious plots and stories, which does not appeal to the main demographic: teenage girls who crave drama and think Max is the hottest thing since the Big Bang.

  • OMG the hybrid chronicals was poo! It was about the human side of being alien AND it didn't include Tess. Big Mistake!

I love Battlestar Galactica - which Moore is Exec Producer of. And he wrote the ep where Max/Tess went to NY which was a fav. of mine. He wrote some good Rebel scenes :D I wish Katims listened more to him because that would've made the show better.

*LOL* about Max being the hottest thing. Yea, teenage girls want sappy romance, not smart plots.

  • "Like it wasn't even the same show."

Couldn't agree more. Seriously, watching an episode from S1 and then watching an episode from S3 is like watching 2 completely different shows. The characters, the cinemetography, the lighting, the make-up, the costumes, the plots...the show just completely changed for the worse. The way I see it; S3 of Roswell never happened.

  • "The way I see it; S3 of Roswell never happened."

I feel the same way. For me, Roswell ended when Max apologized to Tess for being an ass to her.

  • Max went through a lot that past year.

*tortured to within an inch of his life,

*had a hand in killing a human being

*shouldered with more responsibility than any one man (or teenager) should have,

*girl of his dreams breaks up with him,

*alien mentor dies and loneliness ensues

*girl of his dreams "supposedly" sleeps with arch-rival

*sister lies and keeps secrets from him

*causes Valenti to lose his job

I don't blame him for being a control freak.

  • wow! you made me feel bad for him which I thought would never be possible.

  • A lot of people think that he is wantonly evil in the last parts of the season.

But, really, he is just way too overprotective and gets carried away with his being "King".

I know I would break if I was put under that kind of pressure. But still, sleeping with Tess was a dumb and selfish move. Especially when nobody on earth knows anything about Antarian-Human hybrid physiology.

  • He was vulnerable when he slept with Tess. Everyone left him and she was the only one still standing by him.

  • Still, that doesn't make it any less of a dumb move.

  • yes, and I feel bad for Tess because he gave her false hope.

  • I think the only Roswell fans who will admit that Liz changed are people who aren't ML fans. Since the majority of fans love Liz & ML, she will be eternally perfect. I just didn't get how Max would be attracted to a stuck up person like Liz.

  • First, there are Dreamers who think Liz changed. The problem is that most Dreamers are girls who are so quick to blame the guy for a bad relationship (not all girls are like this).

Liz: poor victim of a crazy relationship

Max: callous and mean for making Liz be the way that she was

Second, it's easy for teenage girls to overlook her faults because that would mean girls are flawed.

Third, Max must always be attracted to a character that they can identify with.

  • Yes, and the problem is that Liz is just as much to blame for the problems in her relationship with Max. I think I blame her more than him because she was never able to let him go - he wasn't able either - but she kept leading him on, giving him hope.

Girls identify with Liz because they want someone to worship the ground they walk on, make their life fun, and sweep them off their feet. Give me a break.

  • My biggest problem with Liz is how she had a much easier time in letting go of Max in S2 then he did. This was completely OOC for her given what we saw in S1. Thus to me she's OOC from abt the halfway point of S2 till the end of the series. Her personality changed a lot too.

And I couldn't agree more with your 2nd para. The last thing M/L fans are is Max fans.

  • *nod* I remember in the ep where they went to the woods, it was Liz who told Maria she couldn't let Max go, it was Liz who didn't want to take that step back when Max said they needed to, and it was her who stayed up all night thinking about him while he was able to sleep. And then she turns into the noble person who can follow Future Max's plan? I don't think so.

  • Agreed. Although to me it isn't even abt the fact that Liz carried the plan; that's something I could see her doing for Max(which is saving his family and saving the world on his request). It's just the way she is after that episode(TEOTW). She was just too casual about the whole thing and wasn't at all suffering like Max was or pining for him. Which, like we both noticed, was very OOC of her considering what happened in S1.

  • I think that has to do with the writers loving Liz so much that everyone has to suffer for not having her in their life, but her suffering isn't as important. The writers were dreamers and they wanted Max to be more attached.

  • You know what, it was actually some major behind-the-scenes whining from the Shiri and Majandra that did it. This is on the Roswell DVDs too. Apparently both actresses thought pining for Max and Michael made their characters look "weak" and "dumb" and that they were setting a bad example for other young female viewers. This made no bloody sense to me because how does it make'em look weak when Max and Michael wanted the two girls just as bad? It's not like the feelings were one-sided.

  • (contd) So this set the motion for the pointless Liz-Sean subplot and more Grrl Power storylines where Liz is putting "Max in his place" (UGH) as S2 progressed. If there was one character who actually did seem weak...it was Tess for constantly yearning for Max when he didn't care for her. Emelie should've been the one complaining! Heck, even Jason Behr given how his character had to put up with Liz's crap. Max for a short while was turned into a sissy.

  • Tess shut up about destiny in S2. But once Max was "ready" to let her in she did go to him quickly and she should've made him beg. I also think it's amazing how Emilie doesn't complain or talk bad about the show when I feel her hate would be justified. Max turned into a whipped little man bitch. If I was JB, I'd want my character to grow up and save his planet because I think that's more of a challenge than continually being Liz's bitch.

  • Agreed. But in this case the writers were limited. They had decided to write Tess off the show and the only way to do so was by getting her back with Max and start the baby + Alex story line to further tear apart the M/L relationship. That was one shitty story line for every character. No one came out looking good from it. It's a real pity how quickly Roswell went from a great show in S1 to mediocre at best in S2 and downright unwatchable in S3.

  • I couldn't agree more. If they wanted to kill off Alex so bad there were tons of ways to go about it besides taking the easy and obvious way out of making Tess the evil murderer.

  • I think they considered it weak because even though the feelings aren't one-sided, Max and Michael were allowed to have some fun on the side. Max knew Tess would always be waiting for him, he had a fall back girl, but who did Liz have to fall back on?

  • I'd say Michael was allowed to have some fun given his little fling with that skins girl. Plus he didn't seem too bummed out abt not being with Maria. I can understand where Majandra was coming from. But I don't see how M/T was "fun" for Max. It's not like there were conflicting feelings there. Max plain didn't feel anything for her until very late in S2...and even then you could see Liz written on his face.

  • (contd) So I just don't know how Shiri came to the conclusion pining/suffering for Max made Liz look "weak". Max was a mess that entire season due to her. Shiri must consider S2 Max a very weak person then.

  • I have no idea what to say about Shiri. All I know is that JB had a bigger reason to be pissed because his character was made out to be a sappy pushover.

  • I hate that. Because as a big Tess fan, and a person who wanted Tess to have a chance with Max, the writers never allowed the characters to have a fair chance. The only reason why they were explored (I must add in a very crappy way) is because the writers saw it as the only way to get rid of Tess. I rather have MT not explored at all then have it taken away.

  • My complete sympathies with Tess fans, really. You guys got a raw deal. Especially considering what a promising character she was shaping up to be in S2. Do you now what Ravin's feelings were towards how her character was handled?

  • We did get a raw deal. Her character was amazing and mysterious, but she was butchered so badly - and that's putting it mildly. I can't remember Emilie ever saying anything about Tess' ending, but I do remember reading an interview with Will Sadler where he said Emilie left Katims' office in tears. So while she's been silent, her actions say a lot.

  • (cont) Plus, Emilie did an interview where she said the last 6 eps of S2 were going to be really good. I doubt she'd say that if the Tess B.S. wasn't a surprise to her & everyone else. She did say about Lost that she's only told important things about her character which helps when playing Claire and I personally see that as a "the Roswell writers should've told me Tess was capable of murder because then I would've played her differently" type of thing.

  • Emilie was right: the last 6 eps of S2 were very good. Extremely dramatic, but good.

Now that I think about it, Max should have just been apart from both girls in S2. He should have just focused on the fact that he has a destiny and spent his time developing leadership become a much better leader (a nicer one, as well).

That's why I liked the JFK episode. Max spends his time being a leader and putting Michael and Isabel in their place.

  • I like your idea for how s2 should've gone. Thing is, the writers didn't develop destiny as Max helping people who are dying. They thought of it from a strictly relationship POV. I think they forgot Max was meant to save people and focused too much on him getting with Tess, which is something they weren't keen on from the start.

  • Maybe not ALL girls like that, but all M/L fans I've met certainly are. M/L fans are basically girls who like the fantasy of having somebody like Max in their lives. You know, somebody who treats 'em like the greatest thing since sliced bread. These are women who identify a lot with Liz and project themselves into her while watching the show. In reality they could care less about Max. It's all about Liz(themselves).

  • Yea, I shouldn't say all girls because I certainly don't fit into that mold. I feel Liz only liked Max because he made her boring life interesting and she only cared for him because of the magic he performed on her. Max was Liz's play thing, IMO. And if ML fans liked Max at all, he wouldn't be seen as the bad guy just because he had an attraction to someone just like him.

  • The only fans who will admit she changed are people who didn't like Liz or ML. Everyone else is blinded with her "perfectness"

I just couldn't stand ML together and I don't know what she had that would attract him. I liked when Max wasn't her personal bitch.

  • Yeah that happens sometimes with shows like this. I was just watching and was completely blown away with how WELL she acts and how greatly she added to the character of Tess. She completely brought that person out to life in this shot and you're right; just watching this you knew she would get the part. But I just feel so bad at how badly her character was abused. I wonder what she's up to now?

  • well Emilie is on the show Lost now. I'm glad she was able to land a hit show. Although, Lost doesn't use her enough either. It's a shame an amazing actress was/is ignored by both shows.

Tess was and will always be my fav character. She was great from the very first line she spoke.

  • I'm glad to hear she's going on but why the hell do they gotta do taht to her, man? Do they not want to use real talent or something. Ah anyways, I'll have to watch her in that sometime soon and I totally hear ya on her being the fave character. She totally is! Even in the third season, her character was better than ALL of them!

  • I hope you catch an ep of Lost where she actually has more than 2 seconds worth of screentime. I don't understand either why neither Roswell or Lost use her to her full potential.

She was in a total of 20 minutes S3 and she rocked every second of it. I still believe if S3 actually included her it would've been worth watching.

  • So, even if they gave Tess more screen time, the season still would've sucked and might have even made the character out to be something Emilie De Ravin probably wouldn't have even been able to fix. XD Makes me sad. But I WILL go check out some Lost episodes with her in it and thanks for telling me about it. :D (Oh and sorry for the long rant/reply)

  • lol "we're just combining our fluids" who knew it would actually happen.

    I did

  • LOL. Her face when he says that is priceless

  • LOL yea. Emilie is such an amazing actress

  • She is. It's easy to see why she got the job.

  • Can't understand why she got written out of the show tho. Kinda makes me angry.

  • She was written out cause the writers didn't have enough talent to come up with good storylines.

  • Such a shame because she was such a wonderful character. One of the best, it sucks that we'll never really get to see her become the primary member of the show instead of a secondary character. Which is odd because even as a secondary character she shined much brighter than anyone there.

  • I agree. In my opinion she (along with Kyle) was the least boring character. They could've chose to develop her, but the writers were too lazy, I guess.
