I managed to work this one out and yes one bit take a while but it's a challenge, remember those gamers? A tough game and pretty good actually no less.
@SRNF you should probably evaluate your own life once more. You're doing it wrong! no need for this hate towards a man you don't even know.
how that stupid comment gets thumbs ups is beyond me, and doesnt paint a beatifull picture of our fellow man. but thats youtube for ya. revealing the true nature of the human race... sec im gonna go throw up.... back. LOL nice comment tho
This was the first castlevania i ever played and its still one of my favourite, despite some of its bad camera angles. I disagree with rolfe about the music because it had some great soundtracks. All the songs in the boss fights were really great and gave me the suspense and atmosphere for the battles. Dont get me wrong i love castlevania 4 very much and also the NES versions. They are all great and fun to play. I did prefer the whip tho on castlevania 64, because its much faster.
...and all the game had to do is tell the player, in this case AVGN/James, to use the item with right C. There should be no need to look up a whole walkthrough to play a game from Beginning to the End.
All the info required was "Press right C to place the item(s)"...as that's all James would have needed to know, not a walkthrough of the entire level.
you didnt get the idea. james could have looked it up, but he didnt. when it came out, i also stucked at the same point. and stopped playing it after several tries. its just bad designed and nothing is explained. everyone can now look up stuff in walkthroughs, but james does this only in emergencys, and a good game shouldn't need this, especially when its just about controls.
To be fair the nerd plays game like you just picked it up for the first time and gradually learning the controls and the overall mechanics of the game and of course bumping into the cryptic stuff game makers put in to make you look into buying that $24.99 something dollar strategy guide or Nintendo Power or that FAQ, But you are right the game doesn't seem as bad, after seeing your video and knowing the stuff that should have been information in the game. Like having a test with answers on it XD
@TheNorthernWord You're right but the thing is, most of his reviews are about channeling his reactions to the game as a child, or relaying his retrospective disappointment at the flaws that we glossed over as children... that's part of the joke. I personally went for years not knowing what to do in Simon's Quest. This part in CV64 bothered me, but it wasn't something I couldn't figure out. However AVGN has me trumped in that I would never be able to finish Street Fighter 2010.
It was a very informative video. However you should probably re-record the voice over. Use a friendlier tone to your voice. I think that would flip the field on that dislike bar. :)
Nice information, but you deliver it too angry. Maybe you did that on purpose to be funny? If that's the case, it didn't work as planned. If only you were a little nicer, that deslike bar would be much smaller.
@Driver80Deep Then you remember that in his 32X review, he shows the movelists for Primal Rage ripped directly from GameFAQs, rendering your argument moot.
I do have to agree with rookiegreene, the point of AVGN playing Castlevania 64 wasnt to show you how to play it, its to show how he views it and his personal experience with the game. Youre video also never shows the game telling you to press right C, so how would you know to do that? I also would like to point out this game is rather old, so when it was new, there wasnt widespread internet like there is today, so you couldnt have just looked up an FAQ. Simple as that.
@DrewtheMew Yeah, well, you use the right C button for practically everything else from opening doors, using levers and other objects in the world, picking up items, talking to people, looking at things etc. It's not like they just threw the right C button in there for shits and giggles for this one puzzle.
@rookiegreene I certainly see where you're coming from, but I don't think he intended to come off sounding as condescending as he did. In my experiences with people I've learned that some people simply sound like they are talking down to others all the time. Then again, maybe this guy genuinely is, who knows?
If Konami would have properly programmed the DAMN GAME...folks would not have to decipher cryptic clues just to solve one simple puzzle....Rot in hell you sarcastic fuck.
Thankfully on the ps2 castlevania games they correct the mistakes by making better controls and camera, because i believe that those were the real problems in the castlevania 64.I don't wanna get misanterstood but this is my personal opinion.Anyway nice video and the explanation that you give to nerd was right, nobody is perfect everybody can do mistakes right?
I remember that place its one of the hardest! anyway man this is not correct the mistakes that they made in this game. For me it was not a very good title, good enough though to stand in his reputation as a castlevania title like a first 3D castlevania. Is not that i didn't enjoy the game,it had its own good moments, but the worst was more. And they could do allot better job on N64 trust me on that, they just rushed the title out.And i know because i have beat every castlevania game.
You have missed the point entirely. In numerous video's AVGN "James" has mentioned his hatred of having to go online an look at walk thru's. and with many of his games it wasn't an option at the time. Further more if it was a well developed game it wouldn't even be an issue. There is a differance between a puzzle and a game flaw that makes you think its a puzzle because it doesn't allow you to preform a basic function, or gives you little to no direction.
I beat the game years before the AVGN video was put up, but by the time it was made available, I had already forgotten how I did it. But I DID remember the frustration due to the lack of clear instructions on how to do it. Internet wasn't quite common place yet back in those days, so you had to figure things out by yourself, unless you were rich enough to be able to afford magazines, on top of buying already expensive games. Figuring it out was part of the sense of reward that game could provide
These Castlevania titles were put-a-bullet-in-your-head-bad. No follow-up is really necessary; Castlevania 64 is just a bad, bad game.
The AVGN isn't necessarily saying that it was impossible to due this, he was recounting his own experiences with the game and how frustrating this part is due to his inability to figure it out. Using FAQs to beat games as a result of their inaccessibility doesn't change the fact that they're inaccessible due to a flawed design in the first place.
If I remember correctly right-C is like the context button(pick things up, open doors, etc.) I don't know why the nerd couldn't figure that out. It's pretty standard to just do that when you have to use an item in a particular spot.

@MrManiacProductions No problem, but to be honest I was using a Castlevania 64 Perfect Guide when I made this video and that's something the Angry Video Game Nerd himself James D.
