Why do you have such a problem with the his being happy with who he is? Not everyone is dissatisfied with his life. Maybe you're the one who is completely nuts. Liv seems to be very well adjusted. You, on the other hand, do not.
He's emanating insanity which apparently you cannot see. The guy is not happy, he's hysterical. And as for being "well adjusted" what the hell does that really mean? A sane person adjusts life meaning he's at cause over his life, he hasn't accepted being adjusted BY life which is apathy and being the effect of life.
Livingston Taylor living in the shadow of James? Livingston is the nicest most down to earth musician you could ever have the chance to meet. He is not living in anyone's shadow.
I bet if he had the opportunity to be as big as James then he wouldnt think twice. Ive watched this whole interview and im a huge James fan, but Livingston just seems like a dick. just my oppinion
Wow! Livingston totally is awesome! I saw him at the Wheaton College, Norton, MA Chapel in 1986 ir '87, and he rocked. He' completely talented, and could be way more successful, but I totally understand where he's coming from.... We're all a product of our environment and our gene pool. It would be hard to always be the "shadow," yet I appreciate his humbleness and his acceptance of the situation. He is fortunate.
No, he does say toward the end that he too had wanted to be famous & that at times it was painful, but that he does not begrudge his brother because he has become famous (iconic really). These people have their heads on straight and that comes through in their music.
i totally understand that he doesn't envy his brothers fame. not everybody has the same ambitions. he seems content and he certainly knows how to tell a good story
He's got that same, fascinating hold on a conversation as James Taylor, you just hang on every word and each one is selected carefully and with meaning.
I agree. I met Liv a couple years ago and he was walking around talking with the crowd before he went on. He was super nice to me and my family. Regular Joe with remarkable talent. KMH.
I totally believe that he's perfectly happy with his career and profession. I saw him in concert in Utah in the 90s and he was wonderful. I think he enjoys the intimacy of a smaller audience and the fact that he able to mingle among his fans without the awkwardness of uber fame.
I'm not sure if he's the kind of guy LLM is interested in, but I've love to see some interviews with Bruce Cockburn ....very interesting, very articulate guy, great long career, still vital.
Thanks for the tip - he's qualified and we'll add him to the roster - we'll try for an interview when possible as well. Thanks for helping us seek these legends out -
I'm sorry. I loved this guy back in the early 70s as much as JT (well almost). But this dude is WACKED. I mean he's truly insane. There's some kinda dangerous shit boiling under the surface.
This is the sort of person I avoid - as though every word was so difficult to deliver and everything is so very serious. Lighten up, dude. Take the metal rod out of your personality.
I love Liv, I go see him more than I do James. I hope to see him in Blowing Rock, NC this Spring. He is a great man just to sit and talk to. Get to the show early and he'll be happy to spend a few minutes with a fan.
I would suggest you view the rest of the series - btw, for an artist to be included in the LLM catalog a new release within the past five years is required. Liv does over 100 dates a year and has 16 studio CDs released like clockwork throughout his career. The newest (2005) "There You Are Again" is a great listen! He's sharing it - are you listening?
one of the most sane guys I know

It seems livingston might be another songwriter like Dennis Linde who has written some great great stuff but appeared rarely out in public.

Liv is not only a fine writer and player - he's one of those poets who can really teach and we'd all do well to listen in once in awhile.
