You need to file a form 1 and it will cost you a 200.00 stamp. Upon approval from ATFE you can cut her down.

I know...also...I have bought some NFA stuff from a dealer in upstate NY. Now that being said I don't know if you have to have a FFL/SOT to own NFA up there but it might be worth checking on.

You would be much better off taking a standard double barrel and paying the 200.00 sbs tax, file a form 1 with ATF. These 5.00 AOW guns are super rare and super expensive. You can make your own if you live in a FREE state...JP

why how is it an AOW rather than a SBR?

I've seen how the Serbu Super Shorty gets there by never offically being a shotgun and the having the foregrip added to further cement it's status as AOW, but how/why is the a AOW?

@akodo1 because an SBR is a short barreled rifle, but a shotgun isnt a rifle. meaning its an "any other weapon". alot cheaper too, only 5 bucks where as if it was a rifle it would be 200.

I meant to say 'why isn't it a SBS' which is an existing class. The only way I've seen to work a SBS in as a AOW is to put a vertical handgrip on the foreend...especially as this one started life as a shotgun

played cod mw2 maybe? because u ask such a dumb question? to answer it ill say: it depends the range, cause this is a shotgun, and the ,44 magnum is a projectile shooter! this weapon is almost 100 % to kill if you stand at a range of 5m. but on 30 m, i would have a hard time killing you( cause of the spread) the magnum could kill you both 5m and in 30m and 100m. but only one part of ur body will be hit, so it depends also where you get shot ;)

It started life as a stevens 311 but when they went out John Norrell bought up the bare receivers and made $5.00 AOW (any other weapons) out of them.

So now it transfers on a 5.00 stamp and is a Norrell AOW..pretty rare birds.

Norrell acutally made this one...when stevens went out he bought bare recievers from them and made a handfull of AOW's... I have two...they are rare and EXPENSIVE..

It would be a lot cheaper to make a sbs yourself and pay the 200 stamp.

Guess what...I have been a Class 3 dealer for 24 years and I think I know what I am talking about brother.

18" on a shotgun, 16" on a rifle anything shorter than that and it becomes subject to NFA rules.

And AGAIN it is not illegal....just regulated. Some states prohibit sawed off shotguns per state law, which over rides NFA because the stamp will not be approved if it is not legal in your state.

Rule is if it leaves the factory designed to be fired from the shoulder it can only be a sbs (200.00 tax). If it leaves the factory with no stock or pistol grip it can be a AOW.

When stevens went out John Norrell bought several bare receivers so it left the factory with no stock  5.00 tax gun... and they are super rare.

You can take a standard double, cut it down and pay the 200.00 tax cheaper than finding a norrell AOW.

My suggestion, go get a cheap single shot shotgun from Wal-Mart, I think their cheapest is around $100 bucks, and hack away with a normal hack saw. I have one.

actually, the length is a pretty easy one to get around. buy any shotgun that comes stock with a pistol grip and you can legally hack off all you like. by law a shotgun must come stock with the ability to be shoulder-fired, so if you hack the end off one with a pistol grip, it's technically considered a shot-bearing pistol.

You can make a cut down version (short bbl shotgun or AOW) but you have to register it with the gov. before you make it. It required a $200 tax to make it or a $5 tax to have it transfered to you.

That would be a "class 3" license. It's only granted on a "per weapon" basis too. Since he listed it as an AOW (Any Other Weapon) I'd be willing to bet that its legally owned. I love 'em.
