@MrGamefly1 He didn't just beat them. He was crazy. According to La Toya this movie understates what he was like. He inflicted all kinds of mental damage on Michael. He used to sit there with a strap/rod and if they missed a step beat the crap out of them. That isn't discipline it's called abuse. You don't need to beat the crap out of your kids to discipline them. Shut your mouth.

Shame on you Joe Jackson for wanting your children to not get shot, be drug off to jail, lynched, attacked by police dogs for sitting at a lunch counter or wanting to go to school or perhaps being fired from a job because of their color or not allowed to vote, even being beaten or hung. Sounds like what all black people over the globe tried. patience. the more than a million tasmanians who were wiped from the face of the earth. The 80 to 100,000,000 who were kidnapped and brought to the Americas, The 100,000,000 who had their country stolen and robbed plus the name of their country's name changed to North and South Rhodesia from Zimbabwe. You better watch out you better not pout. Santa Claus is as real as your thinking. Visit Mike Powers on facebook.
You're not even African American. You probably say you're not black but, you're brown. You have nothing in common with Joseph Jackson or any one like him.
@lmikepowers1 I'm as ebony as u can imagine (not too much, but am dark enough to have gotten harrassed about it). Afro-american, Jamaican, I don't abide by "titles", its not in I energy. I understand a method of teaching thru patience, balance and discipline.
It looks like you're African American according to the link at africaever. I'm not sure you see what's he accomplished in the face of a system that lives off of black people like a snake in the jungle. How many black fathers stayed with their families and encouraged their children even just stay in school. Google my website INDEFENSEOFJOEJACKSON and take a look at his accomplishments for a BLACK perspective. 1 in 4 black men are in prison or on parole in America
FYI I have no problem with discipline in the home, its how come it was used as an instrument in terror or even without nurturing sound life skills in the home, but for an entertainment career.
@africaever WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO PROVIDE JOBS OR TEACH SKILLS TO BLACK CHILDREN IN YOUR COMMUNITY. Finding fault with other black people falls under the heading of the willie lynch syndrome. United we stand. Divided we fall. Visit the Black History Bible Studies facebook page and find out more information about the spiritual or psychological warfare against black people in this country and where it all started according to the bible. And I purposely didn't capitalize the name willie lynch.
@lmikepowers1 Raise 4 children, volunteer arts and education in my community, my record speaks. The issue isnt the discipline as its investments. The sons attitude towards women and the fact that once the fame waned so did their fortunes. If the investments went towards a balanced life where their talents are nurtured instead of punished them they would be more sound (in the vein of Stevie Wonder perhaps). FYI I'm Jamaican.
U guys say Joe drove his kids away no he made them famous strong n responsible u say he needs anger management then everybody's parents during after n before that time does as well people its called discipline its called loving ur kids enough not to want them in the streets or on drugs
The father is cruel, and abusive. But if it wasn't for him, they would never have been discovered. "The Jackson 5" or especially "The King Of Pop Michael Jackson"
@Nailsdewed My my for me being a nobody you sure are going out of your way to preach to me about growing up. None of my comments were childish. Face it. I have a different opinion than you and it angers you. Btw 2 or 3 comments isn't every video. Have a nice day being angry.
@Nailsdewed lol this movie is a classic to me. It's old and like most movies that are old the acting in it will usually be lackluster. Of course if I have an opinion that differs from yours I need to get a life. Haha how about you grow up pal and face the fact of how not everyone will have the same biased opinion as you do?
In a way Joe did love his children, even though he didn't show it but it shows he wanted the best for them, to make sure they don't spend the rest of their lives in a steel mill or end up in prison. But they really should have only got disciplined when the were disrespectful or did something wrong etc
It's a shame that racism is still so strong in lineage of the animals that have murdered black men and women. Kidnapped them and made them work as sharecroppers or on chain gangs for free and even if a black man is acquitted by a jury of his peers in a court of law. He's still guilty in the eyes of white America. Think about this. O.J. WAS INNOCENT. and Cecil John Rhodes Murdered 100,000,000 black people and made Adolph Hitler look like choir boy. Smoke that at your next Klan meeting.
I know you loved Michael Jackson but, what that? Your sheet is sticking out of your jacket and that looks like hood in your back pocket. You care more about animal abuse than any black children in this country. This just gives you the chance to point the finger at another black man that made it through your mine fields and didn't desert his family. I'm surprised your police associates weren't able to stop his care and arrest him for D.W.B. and put him in prison and stop him from being there.
Do you feel it would be better to allow the police to discipline them because their father didn't care enough to take the time. I don't hear you complaining about the 846,000 black male and female inmates in for profit privately owned prisons. Or the 30% unemployment rate among blacks. Or the 30,000 that were lynched in America without retribution or police protections. Or the 250,000 black youth that were killed in 2008. Or the people who murdered Michael Jackson for his Music rights. What's up
@mitch23325 - no one could know that, some of them may have wound up on the streets. Kids sometimes do need to be pushed. True, the guy was a total d*ck. If he hadn't pushed Marlon so much, he may not have tried so much later. Definitely Joe should've gone to jail for what he did to his boys. Total animal!!
@mitch23325 I am inclined to agree with you.The truth is his kids had God-given talent, especially Michael and his domineering parenting style had nothing to do with that.Perhaps the argument can be made that he did in fact teach them to be tough and stand on their own but his methods of doing so were too extreme. They were all robbed of a childhood and the chance to socialize and make friends, which might explain Michael's bond with animals and children in his adult years.
@mitch23325 thats true. i would never approve of doing this to my children but he did get them out of the projects and helped them become so famous. making sure everything was perfect and no mistakes. he basically sacrificed his bond between his children to get them to where they are right now. one of the most successful music bands of all time. i know you dont have to do all that to make it but it was different back then and joe had to do what he had to do. i dont like him, but i do thank him
Visit my facebook page: African American People's Restoration and see some of the lies that have been used to keep blacks at a disadvantage and deprive them of economic, political and social fairness. Someone has to be poor for someone else to be rich and even poor whites have benefited from the suffering and deprivation of black people in this country for hundreds of years. Black built this country with their blood sweat and tears. Joe Jackson pushed his kids so it wouldn't happen to them.
I have no problem with how he raised his children. Other people do. But Michael would have been just another black kid from the ghetto who could sing and dance. persistence, perseverance, vision and patience can't come from some one who isn't there. 1 in 3 black males are in prison, probation or on parole.
2,000,000 children in the United States have at least one parent in state or federal prison.
250,000 black youths were killed in 2008. See more at .in defense of joe jackson dot com.
@lmikepowers1 so......raising the kids to be model citizens instead would have spelled disaster. What about the life skills he failed to instruct in them on making a living in the home and family interactions, when were those skills suppose to show? If there was a plan, they would've enjoyed other elements in life, and most wouldn't have had to struggle with life outside of fame. God bless the ones that did (Rebbie wanted a home, so did Marlon). Provoking kids to discourage them isn't good.

@lmikepowers1 BTW, its not the discipline part of it I disavow (love that rod of correction), its where it led to. Where was the balance? And then many of them got in relationships to get away from the crazy drama. They should have been a way of promoting a sound life and be the transition of one family values to another family, not the way it was presented here.
@NiVeA5678 Watch the video (In defense Of Joe Jackson) on youtube. 247,000 black men and women are in a privately owned prisons working for $15 dollars a month while the prisons earn $15 dollars an hour using America's new slavery system. Blacks are 15% of the population but they're 71% of the prison population. White commit 82% of all crimes. You'll find these statistics in books and articles. You have google and youtube. This probable doesn't effect you. Cause you're ignoring facts.
I was a pretty good musician and I played professionally with some very great musicians. But the discipline and guidance that I needed to succeed like another musician that watch me dressed like me danced like me and told my mother who baby sat him that he was going to be a start. Discipline is something you either have or a coach motivates you with. I WISH JOSEPH JACKSON HAD BEEN MY FATHER. White people have no ideal of what it take to raise black children in a country with racial prejudice.
@lmikepowers1 really only black guys have problems? Thats f..ing crazy. i have seen many white guys who are absolute geniuses and great talents all go to waste because they had no farthers driving them or no help of any kind to realize their full potentials. the Jackson 5 were formed and made sucessful because of the visions of their father. or perhap his obsession with sucess for him and his kids. If he was too rough or drove them too hard is another issue.
find the N MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMNMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Beatings are bad...to me wat j5 got is nothing compared to wat I got..I would get beat so bad I couldn't go to school..he would beat them they would still go to school..if they had my dad they wouldn't want to sing anymore
@rayraysmiles98 oh well i apologize if i offended you but i dont think its right for you to decide what type of discipline is right or wrong. If they take it over the top and abuse then i can understand what your saying. Yeah and dont say women take care of children better than men because its alot of kids out here who cant behave because they didnt have a father in their life to instruct them, so i know that a father is as important as a mother
@rayraysmiles98 Stop cryin yall sum babies. Whoopings make you strong boy, he made them concentrate and i bet they didnt run around talkin bout they got ADD
My biggest problem with Joe Jackson, aside from his abuse which I don't know enough about to speak on is that he spent years living through his own children and no parent has the right to do that.
That's so sad. Of course that sort of thing was more common back than so I wouldn't just go attacking him on that. He did his job by supporting them and keeping them out of trouble but he mentally abused those kids and in a lot of ways that's much worse than physical harm.
HA,HA! Little Marlon getting it in, practice makes perfect! Look at his spin move on the Jackson 5 Never Can Say Goodbye Flip Wilson show, he outshine big brother Jackie!
joe jackson was and is not the only father who beats his kids..but the mental damage he did was the problem..i dont think he showed them the love and affection they needed and thats where he messed up
i know one damn thing, that motherfucker wouldn't last one day in my household. if he touched my child like that he'd get hurt. and you don't tell a little boy to be a man.
joe is nuts !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! why would he beat his son for missing a step. thats why they were practicing ! to get everything right. and why would joe make his other kids sit there and watch.
I could be on this topic all day. Beating is not necessary at all. I give my daughters a few pops on the butt when they try to challenge me but so far, an unlimited amount of personal attention, eye contact, and love is enough. Beating children to the point where they can't breathe and are petrified of making a mistake is inhumane and torture.
He didn't need to beat them! But I think the emotional abuse that Joe gave Michael was just as bad as the beatings. Joe told Michael he was too ugly to be his kid, had a fat nose, teased him about his nose and acne, tried to get prostitutes to rape him when he fifteen or sixteen as well as the beatings and I hate to think what else.
@MrGamefly1 i KNOW RIGHT!! I was going home and some kids threw eggs at me!! if I did something like that my grandfather would dig a ditch and throw my dead body in it. and my grandfather was a WWII veteran

You're not even African American. You probably say you're not black but, you're brown. You have nothing in common with Joseph Jackson or any one like him.
lmikepowers1 5 months ago
@lmikepowers1 I'm as ebony as u can imagine (not too much, but am dark enough to have gotten harrassed about it). Afro-american, Jamaican, I don't abide by "titles", its not in I energy. I understand a method of teaching thru patience, balance and discipline.
africaever 5 months ago
It looks like you're African American according to the link at africaever. I'm not sure you see what's he accomplished in the face of a system that lives off of black people like a snake in the jungle. How many black fathers stayed with their families and encouraged their children even just stay in school. Google my website INDEFENSEOFJOEJACKSON and take a look at his accomplishments for a BLACK perspective. 1 in 4 black men are in prison or on parole in America
lmikepowers1 5 months ago
FYI I have no problem with discipline in the home, its how come it was used as an instrument in terror or even without nurturing sound life skills in the home, but for an entertainment career.
africaever 5 months ago
@africaever WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO PROVIDE JOBS OR TEACH SKILLS TO BLACK CHILDREN IN YOUR COMMUNITY. Finding fault with other black people falls under the heading of the willie lynch syndrome. United we stand. Divided we fall. Visit the Black History Bible Studies facebook page and find out more information about the spiritual or psychological warfare against black people in this country and where it all started according to the bible. And I purposely didn't capitalize the name willie lynch.
lmikepowers1 5 months ago
@lmikepowers1 Raise 4 children, volunteer arts and education in my community, my record speaks. The issue isnt the discipline as its investments. The sons attitude towards women and the fact that once the fame waned so did their fortunes. If the investments went towards a balanced life where their talents are nurtured instead of punished them they would be more sound (in the vein of Stevie Wonder perhaps). FYI I'm Jamaican.

Bad child acting. I mean terrible.
movinfoward 7 months ago

Smoke that at your next Klan meeting.
lmikepowers1 7 months ago
I know you loved Michael Jackson but, what that? Your sheet is sticking out of your jacket and that looks like hood in your back pocket. You care more about animal abuse than any black children in this country. This just gives you the chance to point the finger at another black man that made it through your mine fields and didn't desert his family. I'm surprised your police associates weren't able to stop his care and arrest him for D.W.B. and put him in prison and stop him from being there.
lmikepowers1 7 months ago
Do you feel it would be better to allow the police to discipline them because their father didn't care enough to take the time. I don't hear you complaining about the 846,000 black male and female inmates in for profit privately owned prisons. Or the 30% unemployment rate among blacks. Or the 30,000 that were lynched in America without retribution or police protections. Or the 250,000 black youth that were killed in 2008. Or the people who murdered Michael Jackson for his Music rights. What's up

Joe is an unforgivable asshole.
He beat his children and made their lives hell.
I don't wanna hear about how successful they are when it
came with such a cost like having a dick of a father.
Made no sense. Honestly he didn't have to do all that he did and his children would've still been successful.

Ileana105 5 months ago
@mitch23325 I am inclined to agree with you.The truth is his kids had God-given talent, especially Michael and his domineering parenting style had nothing to do with that.Perhaps the argument can be made that he did in fact teach them to be tough and stand on their own but his methods of doing so were too extreme. They were all robbed of a childhood and the chance to socialize and make friends, which might explain Michael's bond with animals and children in his adult years.

mitch23325 3 months ago
@mitch23325 thats true. i would never approve of doing this to my children but he did get them out of the projects and helped them become so famous. making sure everything was perfect and no mistakes. he basically sacrificed his bond between his children to get them to where they are right now. one of the most successful music bands of all time. i know you dont have to do all that to make it but it was different back then and joe had to do what he had to do. i dont like him, but i do thank him

jenlovesyoualatte 8 months ago
Visit my facebook page: African American People's Restoration and see some of the lies that have been used to keep blacks at a disadvantage and deprive them of economic, political and social fairness. Someone has to be poor for someone else to be rich and even poor whites have benefited from the suffering and deprivation of black people in this country for hundreds of years. Black built this country with their blood sweat and tears. Joe Jackson pushed his kids so it wouldn't happen to them.
lmikepowers1 8 months ago 2

@lmikepowers1 250,000 black youths died in 2008? where did u get that info from?
NiVeA5678 2 months ago

White people have no ideal of what it take to raise black children in a country with racial prejudice.
lmikepowers1 8 months ago
@lmikepowers1 really only black guys have problems? Thats f..ing crazy. i have seen many white guys who are absolute geniuses and great talents all go to waste because they had no farthers driving them or no help of any kind to realize their full potentials. the Jackson 5 were formed and made sucessful because of the visions of their father. or perhap his obsession with sucess for him and his kids. If he was too rough or drove them too hard is another issue.

That's so sad. Of course that sort of thing was more common back than so I wouldn't just go attacking him on that. He did his job by supporting them and keeping them out of trouble but he mentally abused those kids and in a lot of ways that's much worse than physical harm.

degrassiLova 1 year ago
I could be on this topic all day. Beating is not necessary at all. I give my daughters a few pops on the butt when they try to challenge me but so far, an unlimited amount of personal attention, eye contact, and love is enough. Beating children to the point where they can't breathe and are petrified of making a mistake is inhumane and torture.

wat happen to joe, like in the beganing of the movie,he was like cool, and driving that nice car,but now hes grumpy and abusive
cpms5151 1 year ago
He didn't need to beat them! But I think the emotional abuse that Joe gave Michael was just as bad as the beatings. Joe told Michael he was too ugly to be his kid, had a fat nose, teased him about his nose and acne, tried to get prostitutes to rape him when he fifteen or sixteen as well as the beatings and I hate to think what else.
