It's fascinating to watch the engines spooling up through Preliminary, Intermediate, and Full thrust. I've read about it in memoir of B.E. Chertok, it's a pretty sophisticated system.

I have always wondered about the long interval to spool up with such small combustion chambers. Perhaps the 20 together create a need for a gentle ramp up. Anyway this version is similar to the early lunar and planetary probe LVs prior  the arrival of Proton,
