Ofcourse everybody has the opportunity, but in the US its insanely much harder than in Europe. A social safety net means that everybody has the MEANS to live their dreams. Lets do a comparison:
An american loses his job, his health insurance, and cant get a new job though he is doing everything he can to support his family. He then gets sick and wind up with 10 000++ in healthcare expenses.
A european loses his job, and have to live on benefits while he is searching for a new job. His family gets food on the table. He then gets sick and have to go to the hospital. He gets treated at a hospital for 200$.
U see WHY we have social safety nets? It is because people are MUCH more able to survive between jobs and they do not lose their opportunity to follow their dreams. The american would struggle for YEARS to get his and his family up from the dirt.

@occupythisbiatch errrr...I pay a shit load in taxes. The percentage of what the incredibly poor pay in state sales tax and other taxes, like gas, is a much higher percentage of their total wealth. So to balance out that percentage, and make it fair, the federal taxes should be higher for those that make more money, and mine are. The problem is that those making MUCH MUCH more money than I, actually pay LESS % wise in Federal income tax than I do. That pisses me off, and it should you too.

There were cars in the area, people setting up camp, and megaphones were simply not strong enough. Stop making excuses. Were you there? DC has most of the problems yes, but the problems do exist solely in DC. These people have jobs, families, or schools to attend to...so they are doing what they can in their communities..Stop making excuses about the movement; Its honest and just.

By the IRS's own numbers the top 1% made in 2007 (last year I could find stats) a little more than 22% of all income, yet they paid more in taxes than the entire bottom 95%. Over 40% of all income taxes were paid by them. Now please tell me what is their fair share? Is it 50% of all income taxes 60%, a 100%? Maybe anyone making over 50,000 a year should have all of the excess above 50,000 taken from them. That strike you as a good idea?

@occupythisbiatch errrr...I pay a shit load in taxes. The percentage of what the incredibly poor pay in state sales tax and other taxes, like gas, is a much higher percentage of their total wealth. So to balance out that percentage, and make it fair, the federal taxes should be higher for those that make more money, and mine are. The problem is that those making MUCH MUCH more money than I, actually pay LESS % wise in Federal income tax than I do. That pisses me off, and it should you too.

If you care about people and you care about their well-being than you can relate. @JG1635 While I support this cause wholeheartedly, I am not one of the organizers. I did hear the organizers mention getting a microphone and PA system sorted out for later. I haven't been able to follow things for the past couple of days...I've had some other commitments. I'll definitely make that suggestion when I meet the occupiers next.

I'm so glad they called out equality for the differently abled (Handicapped people), because you see so many athletic people in sport wheelchairs who can not get jobs. It' ashame. They apply but don't get hired and many of them are very physically strong. They are certainly one segment of the injustice in the Greedy Corptacracy Police State we call America... OCCUPY!!!!!!

@ChulaKirby : I see you are a "Glass is half empty" kind of guy. lol I hate to be the one to break it to you but fed notes/money is already on its way to becoming worthless and the economy is collapsing, mass lay offs are happening already, as well as the shut down of businesses and stores, theres already food shortages and starvation, and riots are already brewing across the usa via protest. As for the rest of your scenario, i dont buy it, there are workable alternatives & viable solutions.
