really, if you are thinking of sunwing, Cassiel and a few other males went to look for a way to get the sun back! but when shade and a few members of his colony went to look, it was both male and females.

The males send a messenger to be with the females to help the elders and stuff (not sure on the exact details, but I know that Mercury lives up to his name to be a messenger from the males).

Mercury is the messenger. I don't think he's considered an "elder" (though he may be older), but more like a rep from the males to keep an eye on things at Tree Haven and pass any messages the males had to the females or kids. Can't remember his role exactly.

Yes, it was Plato. Raggedstar mentioned it on the side. They're both names from Ancient Greece and mythology (Hector = Prince of Troy. Plato = Greek philosopher)
