Something very deserving of people watching that movie, you have no ingenuity at all.

What you should have done, is gotten a PVC pipe a bit bigger than the cartridge, then glue a smaller PVC into one end(one the cartidge will fit snugly in). On the end of the smaller PVC, glue a thumbtack DIRECTLY into it's middle. Drop the cartridge in, wait, and then watch it fly off mortar-style.

An even better idea is glueing a thumbtack onto a hammer, holding the CO2 powerlet up to your face to the see action up close and then hitting the powerlet's outlet with the thumbtack hammer.
