Hey I've taken 4 fiddle lessons so far I kid you not I've never played one before and your instruction video even though I'm not able to do it all still gave me enough info to play part of this song. My teacher was impressed and will show me the rest of this song.
Thanks! Very helpful! I was given "the family violin" at Christmas. It was made (or tweeked) by Charles Albert and shows a date of 1900. It's in great shape and after 40 some years of playing acoustic guitar (and woefully little mandolin), I'm now wrapping my brain around an instrument with no frets played with a bow. That'll keep me busy a while. :)
WHEEDOGIT! That's some mighty fine fiddle playing. He oughter come and play that song at our Civil War reenactments. This guy's awesome! His methods of teaching are really good too. Thanks for the lesson!

your videos are the absolute best. You know one thing I learned here (besides how great a fiddler you are!) is what notes to choose to slide in. And the answer is notes you don't expect. Notice at 2:50. He could choose any note to slide in on and you would expect probably the D , but instead he slides in on the B. I think that gives it an artistic flavor to it. try playing the same but slide the A and it's not as good. IMHO. wonderful video!!!!!!
In my studio, students learn the bow hold very quickly using the Bow Hold Buddies[tm] bow accessory. The accessory keeps the hand relaxed and fingers in place while we learn more music.
Beautiful job! I'm trying to learn this tune, and your version is inspirational. Thanks.

'Angelina Baker' is a Stephen Foster song that differs signficantly from 'Angeline the Baker' the fiddle tune. And it isn't Angeleeena'

Thank you. A closeup of the right hand would be helpful also. Or, perhaps a split screen showing both hands. Thank you. Great.
