Yeah, win for GC on this. expensive boxes aside he demonstrates the key to making interesting organic sounds. Use organic and random sources for the seeds.
Big respect. Come round my gaff for a cuppa anyday.
I enjoyed every minute of this. Most people just tinker with sounds built into soft synths already designed by some guy they've never met or even know of. People are always asking me, "hey, where can I get some cool samples?". I tell them the same thing every time. First, you need to learn about what sound is, then you need to learn about frequency. Learn some stuff about synthesis, filters and compression, and create your own sounds. It is a truly great feeling designing your own sounds.
@flyingsoundmachine yes you're totaly right. but then again you are kinda wrong.
Of course a basement knowledge cannot hurt and creating sounds all by yourself is very fascinating. But to rebuild a great kickdrum that somebody else had made and you know you never gonna get a kick as good as that, is just "timewasting".
I mean you probably don't know how to build an active filter by your own right and why should you?
So better spend time on the topic where you are talented =)
i have been collecting FM mag, and CM mag for 4 year now... not every issue, but i have a few synths worth for sure, in fact hat is why i cut down on buying the magevery single month, to buy hard/soft/ware instead.. i still, every day, go thru my bookshelf and pick of issues to learn something... it has been my education. i love all the samples that cycle and groove crim make.. i rarely use them, but love the way they do it..so this clip is gold to me... this is how i strive to work.
Whats your electric bill like?

Less than 5 mins in and I've learnt something. Now I (kinda) know how Jamiroquai made the beat in Twenty Zero One. Great! :)
