  • Personally, I find AE a little confusing. I mean, it's doable to use it, but I much prefer fusion or Nuke for compositing...depending on the job. The thing that I have not been able to REALLY nail in Fusion is using OpenEXR. It's really easy with Nuke, but does anyone know of a tute about openEXR and fusion? It's hit and miss for me right now. Luckily, I have Nuke.

  • where can I see the animation that you used in this example?

  • @kuunami Some reason i cant post the link here

  • @kuunami I will add the link to the description part of this video

  • @guruvaidya

I just watched it. Very cool.

  • What would you say the best format for animation? What would be the best format for fluids? In particular smoke and fire.

  • @caveman357

I'm not sure that one format is better than another for specific things. I think it comes down to what workflow you are comfortable with or what has been specified by your project manager if you're working in a studio or on a group project.

  • @kuunami So, you mean that there is really no difference in what format you use.. I am a student, but i am 1 of 2 people that use maya. I asked because i am going to be using dynamics, and I didnt know if one presented more problems than another. I am just trying to get this right. Thank you for your reply.

  • @caveman357 There are many benefits of using exr for vfx related stuff, especially if you render many passes.

  • Thanks. I was extracting my passes one at a time in AE. What a pain.

  • @kyleb2112

yeah, I was exporting everything from cinema4d as separate passes in the form of tiff sequences. Now that Cinema 4d can export EXR and after effects can read them, I'll be trying this workflow.

  • Thank you very much, awesome tutorial!

  • Thank you very much, awesome tutorial!

  • that extra proEXR script is a lifesaver, so useful, and i had no idea it existed! thanks a bunch!

  • I appreciate the content as I didn't know about the proEXR advanced plug-ins ... but really the second half of the tutorial (AE part) could have been explained in about 30s rather than 7 minutes.

  • Thanks for this! I'm still banging my head against the wall trying to figure out how to render a functional depth pass, but this was very helpful!

  • Your welcome Kyorihart!

If theres any other topic you would like to see videos on then do let me know.

  • Wow Thanks!!

I'm new to maya and i couldn't figure out how to render using open exr and get the multipass. Your tutorial are simple for beginners like me to understand. thanks a bunch! :)

  • @Kyorihart thanks buddy!
