This track really is a masterpiece. It conveys so many things. Wistful longing, a bit of pathos and turmoil. And last but not least, it evokes the lush, epic romaticism from classic Hollywood, movies like Gone with the Wind.
@Johnlindsey289 So Underrated! I prefer it so much more than The wizard of Oz, The message in Return to Oz is AWESOME but in the wizard of oz she comes home saying she'll never strive for anything that seems out of her reach.
This Film and the music is one of my favorite of all times as i can think back, One of the best Films Disney ever made. I love it caz the music brings you back to your childhood in a blink of an eye and let you experience everything of that story once again.
i absolutely love this movie. its way better than the first movie with judy garland. return to oz is one of the best movies ever, well besides titanic. haha. XD
I can honestly say, out of all the soundtracks that I own and have heard, the finale for Return to Oz is the best piece of music I have heard. I cannot get over how gorgeus and beautiful it is. Reading the books, it captures the feeling of Oz, being this far away fairytale land.
this and the finale for "2010" are Shire's most inspired musical compositions, and I think two of the most beautiful pieces of film music ever created in the history of cinema. This is coming from someone who owns several thousand film scores and has been collecting for 25+ years
I am very glad that you think so. I think that Shire's fantastic work for '2010' and 'Return to Oz' are not well because the films themselves are not well known, as opposed to someone such as John Williams whose work receives recognition thanks to the caliber of the film libraries to which he has contributed. Shire's score for this particular picture truly captures the beautiful, timeless spirit of the art of storytelling, something that shall always be around.
Damn right and seeing this on the big screen was something, did it frightened you at first? it was one of the scariest movies of my childhood with Magic, Making Contact aka Joey, Pinocchio and The Emperor of the Night and others that scared me silly.
@Johnlindsey289 Yeah, the Wheelers and Princess Mombi creeped me out big time when i saw this in theaters as a kid. Dorothy and Ozma were both cuties in it though, especially Ozma.
Heartbreakingly beautiful music from a very talented composer.

I can't listen to this without being overwhelmed with emotion. It's like Dorothy's saying goodbye to Oz.

Most agree it is such a masterful criminally underrated score to a criminally underrated epic movie.
