@GayBoyRunning There is nothing new about it. It's Crapper's direct invention. a Washdown toilet. It is the simplest design a flush toilet could have. it just empties water into a bowl, pushing it down. It doesn't siphon out generally because the trap design doesn't accommodate it. Weirdly they have terrible bowl wash. Go to Europe, Asia, Austrailia.. They do clog.
You are right that they clog much less than our toilets do. The problem isn't blockages, it's either not enough flushing power or water in the wrong direction. Dual flush toilets are everywhere in Europe, but because I do not know the origin of the invention I can't say anything about that. The disadvantage of washdowns is they can only flush things with a good enough surface area, and if the flushing only makes contact with the water surface, poor bowl wash.
@GayBoyRunning also the flushing making contact with only the existing water in the bowl (water surface) will not only produce poor bowl wash, solids that are at the bottom of the bowl might not be removed at all.
@jhenry1041 There was no traditional fill valve. This toilet was on a special setup - water recycling system. It was a clean toilet never used for human waste disposal purposes. Flapper was a replaced tilt-valve assembly but in original Am Std tank.
My 1# favorite toilet of all time. Why are so many people getting rid of old toilets like this and going with newer toilets that take 2 flushes to get the job done? This toilet gets the job down in 1 flush which I like. I find toilets like this on craigslist and ebay ever day. I have bought toilet just like this one, but white off of craigslist.
@flushboyaz on ebay huh? Never would have thought. I'll have to keep my eyes out I guess. I'm still hoping to find a used one being given away on craigslist or something- as long as it's not filthy disgusting...lol. Also, can you still get the gasket for mounting the tank? Seems like they sometimes fail when you move an old toilet from one place to another?
@Vercus100 yes. you can check craigslist but it hasn't been very reliable. more info/pics on ebay. also, you can check local building supplies 'surplus' stores. we have some here that take donations of used building materials and fixtures of all kinds and resell them. I found two toilets there a few weeks ago and am cleaning them up for use in some future videos/experiments. probably won't find new stuff at those places though.
I know what you mean!!! I actually found it on ebay. A plumbing company was selling it and a few others that they had found in their basement. Never been unboxed, brand-new nearly 30-year old toilet. it's awesome!!
which system? the tank? this flush was done on a 'test rig' and there was no regular water supply. it uses a recycling system and it's a never-used toilet so it's perfectly clean.
@yometin I've also noticed that older American Standard toilets(even ones dating all the way back to the 1930s) all look like new when they are properly cleaned.

@BoyneMaiden they are the individual 'model' names given to them by the manufacturers. no other reason than that, that I can think of :)

@Vercus100 on eBay and with a little luck! but you gotta look at the details of the entries and ask the right questions too.

How come these toilets date so long but look just as new? I see these in old restaurants.
yometin 3 years ago
One reason could be just clean it and take care of it frequently so it wont get destroyed.
