Municipal Waste is one of the more "talented" (best shredding, and everyone in the band is EXTREMELY skilled). i love Waste but i'd take S.O.D., Cryptic Slaughter or D.R.I. before them anyday

I fucking love old school punk/ thrash, but cryptic slaughter has got to be the sloppiest band I've ever heard. I have no idea how they ever gained the popularity that they did, I don't want to take that away from them, I'm happy for their success.

I know what you are saying, but look at bands like bad brains and minor threat who basically cut their albums in their basement with a four track recorder in a day or two. Cryptic Slaughter never really had their musical chops down. I think they just needed a better drummer.

Municipal waste on the other hand are very talented. You could give these guys complete shit for instruments and they would still sound fucking great. Oh, and fuck trivium.

@HUEBDOGG Cryptic Slaughter wrote some great songs with great lyrics. Sloppy? These guys had the best of both metal and genres combined. They had a fuckin wicked groove, and Rob inspired me to start playing bass. Rob is also now the current bassist of Ozzy, and former bass player for Rob Zombie. Not bad for the ex-bass player of a sloppy band.

@HUEBDOGG I don't mind the drummer, I don't think he's as sloppy as you think he is, but I grew up on hardcore, Punk, and Metal. And Hardcore and punk is full of young kids who aren't great musicians but wrote great songs. I love Black Flag but Greg Ginn is a sloppy guitar player. I love DRI too but their original drummer wasn't great ...just fast. If you want perfectly timed Crossover then I suggest SOD/MOD, or probably the best crossover band Crumbsuckers who released two classic albums.

1. I never said anything about POLISHING up thrash, good production never hurt but a great band does not need Rick Ruben to sound badass.

2. Metallica has never SOUNDED shitty, the SOUND actually got better, it was the songs that got worse.

It boils down to musical abilities and the drummer for cryptic slaughter was sloppy. So anyways, it has been 6 months discussing this topic and I think i'm just about over it.

No matter how much you listen to them, they are both some form of Death Metal. Napalm Death may be Grindcore and Obituary might be Death Metal, who cares? It's all great.
