They can, will, and do, use this gun in the military. My Neighbor was a NAVY Seal Back in the day and he said before they made the Mark 23 (or SOCOM) Back in 1991 he carried an ISSUED (blacked out not chromed or silver) .50 cal Desert Eagle. But He was a rather High rank and could have gotten almost anything he wanted.

If he used that in 91, he must have been involved in testing it. The DE .50AE wasn't produced at all until 1991.
