Having guns on board contributes to options, and ultimately saftey.
As a passenger (in a different '10 memorial day trip to catalina), i felt safer knowing that we have this option in such a senario, and learned over the weekend that the weapon was in competent hands.
Thanks again for a great time 'Pirate', and most importantly, keeping us safe. -'Irvine'
Oh, good grief! Are you kidding me?! Did you see the video, dumbass? The guy caught the shark on a line, and before we brought it aboard I shot it to protect my passengers. You know those clubs you fishermen carry?...yeah, the ones you use to beat the fish to death when you bring it in? Uh huh, who's the asshole now? By the way, I'm not a fisherman, I'm a boat captain. Get a life.
Okay, now I've heard it all. A retired cop shoots a shark before bringing it aboard a boat, and some idiot cries brutality. Well, I'm crying... ignorant, fucking morons. So, I if caught a fish with a pole, am I a murderer? If I'm a retired cop, I'm what?....a facist murderer? Get a life, you fucking asshole.
lol you're the fucking asshole. you're probably one of those donut chomping cops who thinks just because he has a gun he's god. you're nothing little piggy.
If you were the shark, would you rather lay on the deck of a boat and suffocate, or have a quick and painless shot to the head? How is shooting a fish any worse than hooking and gafing it, and letting it die a slow death?
The charter passenger who had the rod wanted to bring the shark in. Obviously, a live five foot shark on a sailboat with 5 passengers would not a good plan. So I agree with you, not a good idea to bring a live shark on board, hence, the gun.
what people don't realize is that sharks will continue to try to bite whatever they can, as long as they are alive. With paid guests and kids aboard, I would not have hauled this aboard either, without killing it first. And they are rubber fish. You can gaff them, beat them with a bat, gut them and they'll still try to bite. On a shark fishing trip out of Newport once, a supposedly dead shark bit a kids foot badly, cause the crew was not on top of it...Just make sure you cook and eat it.
Hi, thanks for the comment. I'm still waiting to hear from someone saying that I over-reacted. Yes, we did keep and eat the shark. I'm a retired police sergeant and knew what I was doing. Thanks again for the comment. Art

if you ask me shooting the shark was a good idea >_>, moreover if they took it one board alive the shark could've attacked someone

Hi, thanks for the comment., I appreciate a sensible comment once in a while :o)
A lot of fishermen going after large fish, and especially sharks, carry guns for just that purpose.

Police brutality has been taken to a new level. First it's people, now it's marine animals. What next?

An alternative wouldve been to cut the line. Not a good idea pulling it on board alive. Even a shark that small.
