  • Wow Rob, that is just incredible, amazing and extraordinary. Beautiful tune.

I remember being fascinated by the way you worked the thumb pick and your fingers and articulated each note so clean even when you were 21 and we were playing those rock tunes.

  • wow, brilliant playing here, and a nice composition as well. Cool how you play all that with a thumbpick. All thumbs up, I love Musette waltzes !

  • Simply amazing.*****

  • You have some great stuff sir. Too bad you live in Edmonton. If you were in Detroit, we would have some gigs together.

  • Very kind of you to say. A gig with you would an honor but you're so damn good I'd probably just want to sit and listen to you play.=) I had my eye on a Gitane, are they a decent Selmer type?

  • Every one is different.

I have played some great ones, and some lousy ones, and they were the same models.

Your singing is your ticket. You could work wherever you wish.

  • Rob, I'm baffled.

Not only you nail the style and sound of the valse musette/java (and this sound soothed my childhood since I'm french), but you manage to play that style with a thumb/index combination (or am I wrong - the video is... ahem, artistic...)

    Now I'm flabbergasted.

  • I write tons of musettes, but they are not very popular anymore. I find them to be great theoretical exercises for improvisation.

I have very hard nails, and I use a firm thunbpick, so I have learned to replicate a flatpick sound with my fingers and thumbpick. I am left handed, and didn't learn to use a flatpick well, since I have less control in my right hand.

I can use one now, and may throw the thumbpick away at some point for this stuff, but not yet.

  • Cool tune and terrific playing. Seeing you play makes me think you can play anything. Greetings from Greece

  • You mispelled "Valle", just kidding. I would love to record on real tape someday.

  • I did an album on an MCI 2" 24 track. It was actually the same machine that Sweet Home Alabama was recorded on.

My hope is to some day find a good 1/2" 8 track.

  • 1/2 inch eight?!??!! my god WHY?!? That is so.....so... pro-sumer. The lowest you want to go is a one inch eight (or 2inch 24). I have the one inch 8 Scully 280. But if you want to see amonster of a machine ...behold the 2 INCH EIGHT!!!! Yup you heard me right 2 inch eight.

Just goto "atrservice(dot)com" and click on the 108c. You can call him if you have any questions.

  • 1" would be great, but tape is expensive, and so are the machines. I have heard of 2" 8. I will check it out.

  • that is beautul ! your one music making man! your making this watz swing!

  • THANKS FREDDY.

That is a real compliment coming from you.

  • Beautiful song and played flawlessly. Thanks for sharing this.

  • You should have heard the 15 other not so flawless takes. I was wiping sweat of my face for a reason.

  • wow....

  • Thanks.

  • It takes a great guitar player to play Chet, Django et al. And you are, indeed, a great guitar player. I was really pleased to switch on my computer and find another Bourassa masterpiece. Thanks Rob.

  • Ooops! And I meant to say, a great writer too.

  • Thanks John, I appreciate that.

    How is the guitar going?

  • Progress is not as quick as I'd hoped, due to work and home committments.

I'm still really enjoying it though.

I have a holiday and more work stuff coming up but in between all that I'll buy a camera and get my Skype account running again so we can get some lessons going.

I just need some 48hr days.

  • Rob, the song is beautiful. What a lovely way to honor your mom. No doubt she thinks you are the greatest musician ever and a loved son.

  • I approve.

  • ***** agin!

  • So COOL!

  • you are one amazing talented musician. No doubt one of my favorite people I follow here on youtube...!

It sounds flawless on this end...

    Clap clap clap!!

    Pascal

  • I'm sure your Mom enjoyed it. That was one busy piece, I liked the song and the effort .

  • A musette is usually very busy. As for effort, I was wiping my head at the beginning, because I think this was take 15 or 20.

The video was messed up, but I didn't want to do it again. Maybe next week.

  • BRAVO! Puts me in mind of Django.
