WOW! You guys were my first concert. Memphis in May, ('81 I think?) You were on just before LaRoux, after which they announced your just being signed to WB (?) I've traveled the world since then and your album went with me in all the places I lived. Lost it when our house burned down (Google "Tea Fire - Santa Barbara") and I found you while trying to rebuild my collection. (I notice, a-hem, you're not on iTunes) Great voice, great tunes, love you guys! (Remember ROCK 103? LOL!)
TY for the Breaks videos. I first heard The Breaks on a commercial on the radio in N.Y. from WOUR many years ago. They were playing some club in Utica. The commercial sold me instantly and I bought the album.(Aging myself,...LOL...) What a voice and great band. Another little or no airplay band that deserved more recognition. Everyone should hear that voice. Very smooth and sultry.
I'm from UK. We were pretty poor growing up and this was nearly the only music I had, on cassette. It's one of the only old possessions I have kept. Absolutely love it still. Such good tunes. Listening to it now I can see how my singing voice has been moulded a bit by obsessing over her gorgeous tones and I think those guitar solos got me into metal. Haha, what a blast from the past. Not heard for so long. Thanks for the great music xxxxxxx
@ptatylaor how do i get a cd all i have is my dads record and this site. me and my brother grew up listening to the breaks. I had to learn this on guitar.
Hi, I have a better copy of the She Wants You video on VHS, without all the text on the screen at the beginning. If you have any use for it I'd be happy to mail it to you, no charge.
First song I ever heard from the first local band I ever saw after I moved to Memphis back in 1983. Great record, and I even have the Drama "Scene From A Distance" LP too. "The Perfect Crime" is one of my favorite songs.
God...i was going through all of my old vinyl a few months back and found this album and while i'm messing with it...out pops two old Magic 105 stickers in perfect condition. I put them on my bass case and while we're loading in to some place in Boston this sound engineer sees them and goes..."Is that Magic 105 like from Little Rock?" And i said yes and we started talking about Quick Sister, Cobra and of course The Breaks. Those were the days.
@odstassault Is that crazy? Well it truly is a small world! Thanks for sharing that story. Glad to know people still remember The Breaks, Those were good times!!!!
Just played Memphis a few weeks and did a shout out to any "Breaks" fans that were still around and a few people tripped out. Came up to me after the show and asked me all kinds of questions about those days...it was awesome.
Seriously, I loved this song the first time I heard it (in 1983) and never stopped loving it. Incredible talent here. Can I but a copy of everything you've ever recorded, Susanne?
In my opinion one of the best female rock singers ever recorded. I have this record on vinyl. "Wishy Washy" is my favorite. I'm glad this is up on the web.
Great band. Great album. Susanne, it's time for a CD. New stuff and a re-release. There is demand for it. Make it so. Love you in Idaho. So does my brother in Cali.
I saw The Breaks in Memphis several times in early 80's. I live in San Antonio now. I was rummaging thru old albums at a flea mkt and guess what I found. The Breaks album in MINT condition. I bought it for a dollar. What are the odds. I love every song on the friggn album!!!!
On a side note, do any of you guys remember Lafayettes Music Room? I guess I`m dating myself a bit, but live music was kicking some serious ass back then. There was a great bar on Cooper, I think, that also had some great music as well; had a patio. What was the name of that bar? Help me out if youcan
@tigerlifer55 You're probably thinking of High Cotton, on Cooper until it was burned down during the Firefighters Strike in 1978. Lot of good bands played there.
I love hearing this. I recently found it and all the songs are now as fresh as every show they did, and I didn't miss many. What a great town to grow up in. I've lived in a lot of cities and the musical talent there is imcomparable to other cities.
Saw this great band at Solomon Alfreds in the early 80`s. What a GREAT BAR! Back when Overton Square was the place to hear good live music.Sadly, one must trek to Beale St. and endear the panhandlers and bullshit that is always there. I also saw Styx, Pure Prarie League, and Billy Joel there as well. sigh
after 20+ years, and for the world see one of the greatest bands to come out of Memphis. I have the original LP in mint cond. I wouldn't sell it for ANY amount of money. Saw them live several times. I hope Pat and Suzanne are doing well these days. Remember POET's Corner, Trader Dick's, Soloman Alfred's on Madison? The Crime and Calculated X? The 80s
I remember. I was there, with RedBeard and tator. Any chance you would burn a copy of the Breaks and ...give it to me, if I made a donation to your favorite Charity? I have a band with a Woman on vocals,.....would love to do Fire on the Wire, but its been years, I need to hear it again. I had a few Cervaces with Jerry Jeff Walker in 1980 at Zinnies, He was just hanging around, and I had one of his albums, thought he looked familiar,.....
man, i can't beleive i'm hearing this after all this time. i had this l.p. at one time. i loved you guys. susanne, i love that voice. i'd love to have the c.d. hope all is well with you guys. it brought back memories hearing this again.
I have been searching for so many years for this. Could y'all please post on here how to special order this cd or atleast please give us a contact. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!! I want this sooooo bad.
arrrrgghhh. oh my god oh my god i have found them! i have this on tape. it was my mum's in the eighties. i'm from england and i'm 32 now and i have never ever met anyone who knows of this band. i have their songs in my head still! I LOVE THIS BAND. amazing songs, amazing voice, love it love it.
You're not going to believe this...but this is the first time I've seen this video in a long long time! Thanks so much! We have it on CD now!!!! Susanne
Seen the band in Buffalo, NY in '83, they opened for the Payolas (Eyes of A Stranger) at a small club and only about 60 people there. Remember hanging out after the show with Pat and a couple other members. Was a great show and evern greater memory. I have the album on cassette and love listening to it! Fire in The Wire is also one of my favorites but the whole album is very good!
Hey Susanne, I would love to get a copy of the LP on CD. How would I go about doing that? Did you record anything else after the Breaks and if so, where can we get that? Love your voice!
Susanne and I were just talking the other day about 'that' gig, and how much we loved the Payolas' Bass Player that night, the way he 'marched' while he played. There was a snow storm when we played there & the small plane we were traveling in that night, almost crashed from a wind shere.
How cool is it that we can discuss those old times, 25 years later, and remeber anything at all! :)
Glad you were there that night, thanks for being there and for your kind & inspiring words.
Yes it is great to remember these times! Seems like yesterday! You guys were outstanding!!! Thanks for posting this great song. How about "Fire in the Wire"?
I gotta get back home to Memphis. Damn I loved this band, made me proud back in the day,......didnt the Breaks open for Mott the Hoople one time???? I might be wrong, there was some primo bud going around, maybe I imagined it???? Wish I could hear Fire in the Wire, my favorite SJT and Breaks tune ever. Y'all keep em straight up 'ere in Mempho.
Please, please, please ms. Susanne - tell us how we can get this on cd - we are all willing to pay the price!!! I miss the lover is always the last to know...
Wow! I still have the tape from the album my brother had and he lost it over the years. searches over the years yielded nothing so i started wondered if they never existed. would be great to get an update on the band, a website and rerelease of the cd. i should copy the tape to digital format.
I saw this video 24 years ago and bought the album. They reminded me of Scandal and Pat Benetar (I was in love with all girl singers as a kid). She looks amazing in the opening but silly with the make up later outdoors. Why is this not on cd?
Saw the Breaks in Dallas, TX at Trees in 1983-84? Great show! Just like concerts use to be. As I remember, at bit loud but really a great show. Fire In the Wire was also in the set. I have the album......somewhere with others I want to have as collector items but cannot find tonight. They (The Breaks) if they own the rights should put it out for everyone to get.
I was there myself and I tell you i can not get away from this site EVERYTHING IS HERE
A TO Z .
The BREAKS were very good and the show was great , check out the jefferson starship videos here there even better, bring back the good old days of real rock and roll .
