  • @luilun Good point. Brain damage will come quicker when a person's head is on the ground and the other person rains punches down.

  • @Reptar0021 It is simply not true that parts of the nose will slide into the brain from a knee strike or upper cut.

  • MMA also have much smaller gloves than boxing...which is probably much safer for the brain.

  • @hivelocity100 reeeeet, take physics. A smaller glove with the same amount of force as a large glove will cause more trauma as the all the force is concentrated into a smaller area.

  • @etagged With mma gloves, there is less padding, you get much more broken bones, bruises, and cuts. But with large gloves, your brain bounces around in your head, which causes more brain trauma. This is a lot from personal experience. I've been hit many times by large gloves at full swing in muay thai, and I got headaches for days that are much more extreme than any pains with mma gloves.

  • Renzo and Royce are my favorite Gracies to watch in MMA.

  • J"adore ce mec. Pure legend !

  • Good interview.

  • your right in a way, yeah boxers get up for the count and also go 12 rounds, plus its only punching to the body and head,in MMA the fighters have to worry about take downs, getting taken down, submissions, locks, holds and shit like that, plus they only go 5 rounds for 5 minutes at the most but they dont really have protection on the fist.BOTH sports your gonna get brain damage, but i think mma its not as easy to get brain damaged as boxing. also the carreer length of a boxer compared to a mma fighter

  • `So the main thing is that we dance as the music plays`

    Love it!

  • boxing is way more dangerous.

  • i would give my left nut to be trained by this guy, im too old now though...

  • @friendlycakeasaurus In my opinion, you're never too old for BJJ sir. I used to train with a 59 year old purple belt in BJJ.

  • @crazyzimmerman can you re-post this with just the stuff about NHB and the fact that gloves actually are more dangerous. thanks

  • Matt Hughes will smash him

  • @YengStvol It happened already, nutsack boy.

  • this guy is a fucking classic

  • Matt Hughes & Sakuraba = Gracie Hunters

  • eddie bravo

  • I want to train at Ranzo's gym, but I don't live in New York and I heard it's 250 a month....I want Renzo's gym or Cesar Gracie's gym but I don't live in fucking California either...it sucks when you live out of the country...guess I'll do boxing in the meantime over here then save up and go to one those two gyms

  • "What is blood but a little bit of pride pouring out."

    Damn, nice quote.

  • MMA causes sooo many brain injuries. Already starting to be an epidemic.

All those dazing shots and near concussive blows build up protein on the brain. Slurred speech, ALS, Lou Gehrigs disease, etc. etc.

  • i COMPLETELY agree with his opinions on the gloves.

  • What they don't mention is that the reason that the gloves do more damage on the head is because it means you are able to throw more punches and have to worry less about accuracy because you don't have to worry about your hands.

  • He's past his prime now but.....a TRUE WARRIOR for sure, a legend in MMA.

  • @burgh171 Maybe Ali would have been a lot better off if he had a weaker chin, he may have had some brain cells left for now. I agree about mma, much more variety in the fighting. But, it seems like more and more mma fighters are just kickboxers who spend most of the fight standing and trading, I love watching a good fight on the ground.

  • matt serra in the back ground?

  • @burgh171 Yep, you got that right feller, take the Great Ali for instance, what a mess.

  • Why don't they just forbid taping your hands? This will take much power from the punches, but will still prevent cuts.

  • LOL the other day while grappling i tapped my buddy out with a fishhook and hairpull combination while screaming "OLD SCHOOL BITCH" and he pretty fucking pissed off about it and i was like hey, we didn't determine what's aloud and not aloud, don't be mad cuz I tapped you old school ufc style lmfao

  • @jthetrackr How old are you....4???

  • @tickyul

no actually i'm 2 years old and your mother still sucked my dick so I guess that makes her a pedo EEEEWWWWWWYYYYYYYYYY IM TELLING MY MOMMYYYYY AND DADDDYYYYYYY

  • @jthetrackr Thanks, did my mommy felch you and then swallow???

  • @tickyul

Actually she didn't swallow but that's ok because I slapped her like Rick James bitch

  • @tickyul Ok, and did the Great Dane mount you after you felched my moms shitty poop chute???

  • @burgh171 It is actually the acceleration/deceleration of the brain and its sloshing against the skull that causes stretching and micro tears that lead to scarring and permanant damage.

  • This guy speaks better English than the average American.

  • @LouieG7777 Yep, come across as very well spoken and intelligent, wish I could say the same for the average Ameritard.

  • hey...heyyy... any types of punches to the head even if you got a pillow tied to your fist can cause brain damages...

brain damages are caused by the brain moving and hitting the skull... In boxing, you can take more hits before being knocked out. That means more brain movements.. in mma you can hit with harder impact (it's less scattered)... less hits before knock out but big brain movements

  • Probably my favorite Gracie ever, aside from Kyra. Unlike the other Gracie's, Renzo doesn't bring up the fact that the Gracie clan invented BJJ, that they revolutionized MMA and fighting in general, and doesn't have this superiority complex over other martial arts. A true, down to earth person. Nothing but respect for this man.

  • @internetmud Not if your Rickson Gracie. Hes like 900-0

  • It is a great news that Renzo has to do 6 more fights in the ufc. Always a pleasure to see him fight.

  • He is a good speaker, specially considering english is his seconds language.

  • @burgh171 lol

  • I watched many of the first UFCs which included hair pulling, groin shots, headbutts, kicks to head or face when on the ground, and no weight classes made it extremely violent not less violent like Renzo says.

  • @beefnliver I agree, but I think that Renzo was specifically referring to brain injury. A lot of the violence in the early days of the UFC was quite nasty, but, like Renzo made reference to, it was mainly superficial and the fights ended a lot earlier.

  • i bought a pair of ufc gloves and i've noticed just playin around with my buddies that punches really do hurt more with those gloves on than just with our bare hands.

  • "blood is the sauce of the fight." ha, a mixture of poetry and cooking, no? love this gracie. a very colorful character with a talent for words.

  • "the headbutts , the lowblows, choking them after the stop, stepping on the back of their heads after the bell"

  • true legend. hes been fighting since bj was on his fathers nutsack.

  • Renzo is the man

  • Renzo is the best. Always positive. Very successful in all facets of life. Unlike some internet trolls who type away in the darkness.

  • Typical american mindset to think that go choke on a cheeseburger. Most of the fucking morons of the world are right in America so go suck a dick Ted Bundy. Haha!! care about right or wrong you Lab Rats are the ones invading countries turd muffin. God damn skin heads are amazing it's no wonder you can't stay in the sun to long without burning or turning purple.

  • @MrPositiveVibe a dickwad like you had to be a Canadian, or as we call you guys...American Light. Does the cold fuck up you guys' brains or are you born stupid?

  • Comment removed

  • I understand the argument about not using the gloves, but back then they were also allowed to punch at the base of the skull which Renzo used to do when he got the guys back during the WCC days. Now those shots would make you say ouch.

  • renzo is awesome

  • @WarBob56565 "What is blood but a little bit of pride coming out? Blood is the sauce of the fight" LOL what a beast!

  • boxing, mma, gloves no gloves, youre getting hit in the head it doesnt matter your brain is getting fucked.

  • True. However, hitting with gloves allows your hands to be protected from damage, which means the volume of blows you receive is substantially higher. While getting hit in the head is never good as you point out, getting hit in the head twice as much or more is even worse.

  • I agree with him 100 percent There is no padding in those gloves,You take a fight like Griffin- Bonnar. and over time your brain is going to have serious ill effects--Witness Forest and Iceman when they talk-sometimes they can barley formulate a sentence. The jury is going to come in with a verdict in who knows10 15 years it will be too late then-Dana will still be saying its safer--THE BIG SPIN

  • Boxers become brain-dead bc they get KO'd but instead of the fight stopping they get a standing 8 count or 10 secs to recover....whereas an MMA is over! It will take MUCH more abuse for an MMA fighter to become brain-dead...and its NOT from the fight its from training. The MMA fight is as safe as can be! There is NOOOOOO reason to go that hard in practice anyway

  • @KevinWood44 Good points, I have heard a lot of comments on Ali sustaining a lot of damage in sparring, he intentionally took punishment as a way of getting in shape. Whenever I saw George Foreman training in his comeback he had on the heavy duty headgear, smart move.

  • @KevinWood44

An MMA fighter is knock out than the other fighter mounts and continue's to punch the knock out fighter explain how this is safer than boxing when you get 4 or 5 unanswered punches on a guy who knock out ?

  • @KevinWood44 your comment is valid, but Ufc, Pride and All of MMa looks over the fact that a upper cut or knee at the right angle to the nose can cause parts of the nose to slide up into the brain

  • garv , u never stop climbing man

you've came a long way dog

  • i hate hughes hes a bitch

i have no dislike for renzo but he acted like a bitch against frank shamrock

  • Renzo is money.

  • BE CAREFUL man you might get winded early in this fight becuz of the weight cutting!

  • there are many early stoppages in MMA so I think having gloves are better than break your hands and be out for 6 months with no pay. I think Renzo can't get over the fact that he could have choked Sakuraba if there was no gloves and that Sakuraba snapped his arm after that, but he's fighting MMA not BJJ

  • Interesting opinion on the gloves. I remember watching an Ed O'Neil interview where he had a similar take. I'm not sure if it was overall less violent in the older days though. Renzo is the man anyway. My favorite Gracie.

  • I can see his point about the fights being over quicker, easier subs, etc. Interesting take.

  • @crazyzimmerman yup most damage is taken in wars, or the longer it goes on thats why boxing is a much more brutal sport, knowing your always going to most likely have to do a decent amount of rounds the amount of frustration if your losing while taking a beating...hey just look at james toney.

  • Good interview. As always, Renzo is an interesting person.
