  • who posted this cuz i need help lerning japanese

  • thanks!!!

  • Fortunately, Japanese stores, or at least the ones from parts that foreigners usually visit, use cash registers that display prices. So you pretty much don't need to learn any of this. Unless you want to visit some rural area.

  • what i do is just add a decimal for a rough estimate, e.i.:1000 yen= approx. $10.00

see?just add the decimal after the first 2 digits.

  • nice video you made,

    another video to watch is

  • Thanks for the intro to Japanese currency. I come across these coins and banknotes every time I fly through Narita on the way to Seoul, and it's nice to hear how you pronounce the names of the currency in Japanese.

I have put my Korean Type set coin collection (every type of coin that has been put into circulation by the Bank of Korea) on youtube. Take a look sometime..

  • I never noticed the Australian accent ; )

  • The intro is to long.

  • Hello!

I liked your video a lot.

I lived in Japan for 2 years and I deeply know how valuable the Japanese money is.

I really miss Japan, especially its behaviour, culture... It is a beautiful country as well!

    Thank you for this video.

Hope I can wacth more videos like this!

    Regards,

    John from Brazil.

  • hey i have a question for u ^.^

Excuse me means suminasen....but does it mean gomenasai or gomene ? ^D^

  • so my understanding, 1yen is like a penny. so 100yen would be $1 in canada/american dollar? 500yen=$5, 1000=$10. how about $1000.00 or $1 million. how would they express that in yen?

  • @pinoymetaljoe When I lived over there, i considered 120 yen equal to a dollar, but to make it easier, sometimes I would move the decimal over two spots...e.g. 150,000 yen = $1,500.00

  • he kinda look like klaus meine (vocalist from Scorpions). except this guys whiter and got shorter hair!

  • what does these equal to do any body know i'll appericated ^_~

  • how much is ichi ma yen worth?

    10000 yen= $100 ?

  • @kittykatz55

    As of March 27, 2010

    10 000 JPY = $108.0789 USD

  • milad2007halo3

    yha is very expensive

    sorry for my poor english!

  • He's so funny ^^ I looove listening to him XD

  • It looks like you can see through the ¥500 coin.

  • Comment removed

  • Does anyone know if is living in japan is expensive as a high school student?

  • Well, yen conversion rates change every day. Approximate rates are about 95-100 yen equal the US dollar. So yea, it's pretty close.

  • 100 yen coin is the most useful, everybody in the world should have at least one, if you use any electronic device or camera made in Japan.

    Why?

You often find a slot on some devices like button cell compartment cover. Those slots are made exact fit for 100yen coin. Of course, foreign coins work such as a quarter in US. But it's always better to use exact fit coins to avoid stripping the slot.

I always keep one in my wallet.

  • Thats cool i never knew that.

  • how much is 10,000 yen worth in dollars? $100?

  • em PLS PLS PLS PM ME TO EXPLANE BETER BCOZ I DONT HEAR ENYTHIGN *cryesss!!!!!!!!

  • arigatou ^.^

  • thanks a lot for your videos........good job...but the audio as it was said..isn't that great....to low....but thanks anyway......ganbatte!

  • well he's talking about currency. what would you have him do, add naked women and explosions?

  • No. Just make it interesting. :)

  • wow, i was leaning in just to barely hear that! audio is WAAAAYYY to low! now all we need to know is what the avradge amount u'd end up spending if u were to go shopping there (for comparison's sake)

  • 1, 5, 10, 100, 500 - coins

    1000, 5000, 10 000 - banknote

  • Just to let you know, the anime-freak thing is something you might consider relaxing about...This is definitely a cliche and most people who take learning the japanese language seriously will not be impressed by this - at all. So, don't be おたく...be a culturally sensitive and curious person that is sincerely interested in Japan.

  • You need to fix the audio, I', hard at hearing and I cannot hear anything. Speak up!

  • theacsupercats: I'm *not* hard of hearing, and I can't hear a thing on this video.

  • 1 cent we don't use 1 cent :P we only use 5,10,20,and 50 cent coins and $5,$10,$20,$50,$100 notes. That was helpfull, how much did the was the last..one

  • there are 1 yen coins...

  • you forgot 5-yen, 50-yen, 2000-yen and 5000-yen...

  • the 10000 yen is a hundred dollar bill in US right?

  • about that

  • DX im english i dont understand cents!! ah well, thats something else to learn i guess.

    arigatou anyway :D

  • 1 cent = about 1/2 a penny (i think)

    1 dollar = about 50p

  • 1 cent is a penny

100 pennys is a dollar or one hundred cents but no one says one hundred cents - they say one dollar. 10 cents is a dime 10dimes make a doller - 25 cents is a quarter 4 quarters make a dollar.

  • Your video help me out a lot, thanks.

  • en español por favor

  • learn english

    aprende español

    日本語が学ぼ!

  • 正しい日本語を学んだ方がいいよ

  • he already knows spanish why would he want to learn it I think you meant to say Aprende Ingles!!! ya mata ne!

  • sorry , i never knew

¿y yo para que quiero decir aprende inglés si es evidente que sabe?

lo que pretendia decir es aprende un idioma escrito en ese idioma

    learn english(aprende inglés en ingles)

aprende español (aprende español en español)

日本語が学べ(lo escribí mal arriba. pero es aprende japonés en japonés

  • you forgot to mention the 2000yen note. even if it's rare, it's still legal tender :)

  • he might not have had one to show...

  • Sure, my opinion. :D

  • The thing is that in Many of the EasternAsian countries, Teeth have never been a "Beautything"

And often you can't afford braces and such.

And why use the money on something that

    isn't considred neccesary?

Tomita-Sensei is posting videos for Us to learn. And I am really grateful that he is.

So can people stop being so disrespectful ne?

  • ethnicity does not determine your appearance and health. why did he type that anyway?!?!

tomita has amazing videos for us all (for free too!) so be great full!!!

  • Wrong...anyway, they also so have the most beautiful eyes, skin, hair and language.

  • in your opinion

  • my opinion too~ asides teeth, they have alot of good things to them! ^_^

  • you know what people have diff opinions I think japanese have many atractive qualities just like american spanish african everyone is pretty in their own way SO PEOPLE STOP HATING!!!

  • 10,000 equals 100 us dollars. idk thats what i got from it,

  • don't look at the video then looser

  • Oh my Gosh!!

I see a lot of zeros and it confuse me.

    O.o

  • a good way to know how much is what is by moving the decimal over twice.

    (i.e)

    1000 yen = 10.00 ($10.00)

    7245 yen = 72.45 ($72.45)

    1 yen, of course, = 1 cent

    10 yen, of course, = 10 cents

    100 yen, (just like 100 pennies)= 1.00 ($1.00)

  • thibalic tell me i need to know how mach well

    $ 5.00

    $10.00

    $20.00

    $50.00

    $100.00

well give me in yen ?

  • ばかやろ

  • so how much is 7,245円

  • japanese money' unit is yen right.well,in my country we call 'riggit'=malaysia.i'm sure u hav heard of malaysia right?

  • Nice video keep them coming.

  • wooow thanks alote very good

i want to learn Japanies very much

  • Japanese Yen Is Approx. 10% USA Dollars..So Hyaku En (100 Yen) Is About $1.00 USA..It Can Be Abit More Or Less Depending On The Price Of Money In The Great Economy & What Have You :)..

  • you might be right, but I heard somewhere 105 yen = $1.

  • no, its a little more then that

    Febuary 29, 2008 7:05am JAPAN time.

    (1 U.S. dollar = 106.678046 Japanese yen)

  • i dont know if my theory is right but 1000 yen is 100 dollars and 100 is ten?

    nice video tooxD

  • 100yen is $1 and 1000yean is $10

  • whats 10000yen

  • 10,000yen is $100

...here think of it this way, one yen is about one cent...

    100yen is 100cents (one dollar) 1000yen is 1000cent ($10) and 10,000yen is 10,000cents ($100)

  • not really

  • ichiman yen =10 000 yen

  • 10000 yen = 10$

    i would know

    im japanese

    idiots...

  • hello money is never the same at different period of time. USD is going down so the current exchange rate is about $1= 117 yen

  • "10000 yen = 10$"

I think you're the idiot...You need to get out a calculator. Unless the yen has taken a massive nosedive in the exchange rate, Ichiman en is usually about $100. Idiot...

  • yeah, JP¥107 == USD$1

  • very informative! ありがとうございます!

  • I have all those coins's laying around here but I also have one coin that you didn't show in the vid.

I'm sure it's Japanese since it has Japanese symbols on it and it has the Yen symbol.

The coin has a hole in the middle, can you tell me what it is?

  • Thx alot 4 ur lesson :)

  • You're cute! n_n

  • so the biggest dollar bill is 100 in japan?

  • wut?

  • what about the 50円 coin and the 5000円 bill??

  • It isn't really that big, shorter lengthwise than US bills little taller

  • me too

  • is the 10,000 yen bill 100 dollars in America pretty much

  • I actually have experience with Japanese money conversion i got to japan ALOT the average as lot of collages teach is about 120 yen to the dollar but you can easily just 10 yen is ten cents it really is pretty much the same thing

    -Ryukaze Genma

  • that was kool

  • can´t hear you but..!*

i've nijiauki jachiyu go én :P

  • l0l

dont understand you but its all good

  • This was helpful, thank you. ^^

  • I would completely be surprised if this is how simple it is. Like, move the decimal place over twice in your dollar and you get our dollar? So like 1000 yen is 10.00 here... just to make sure you get what I'm saying. Can you respond to Metaru?

  • cool u even have an opening! awesome

  • cant hear

  • turn speaker up...

  • I may be wrong...but I really don't think Ichi'en (one yen) is equal to one cent...not is juu'en (ten yen) equal to a dime. The exchange rate is muuuuch more skewed than that - it's something like 320 yen to the dollar.

  • thats Japanese money lesson was cool.
